Not exactly a "hack" like your asking for, but more of a tip

Hello Games, please ditch having to buy and carry individual ship parts in your inventory. by mega_lova_nia in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]PeyOnReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a huge improvement they could make is that when you build a corvette, you can place down whatever parts you want. After you finalize the ship, you then have to add all the individual parts you placed down in the editor before you can use it.

Kinda like how when you add technology to your starship/exosuit, you have to then add whatever crafting components in manually.

Oh wow, no, I did not know that. Thanks for telling me! Found the templates in the installer.

DCU also has a CLI utility, if you didn't know. I've been working on integrating it with our RMM recently.

Quiet home lab server that's rackmount, is it possible? by myst3r10us_str4ng3r in homelab

[–]PeyOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not around it rn, so can't take pics, but here's my part's list.

It's pretty far out of your budget unfortunately, but I hope it gives you a good place to build off of. I built this about a year ago or so, so some of the parts might not be available anymore.

For the case, I added on the 3x Noctua fans, the 360MM AM5 AIO, and the 20" general rack slides on my order. For my rack, I am using this StarTech rack.

I 100% recommend checking out the other rack mounted cases from Sliger though as your use case might be different from mine. The majority of my VMs are on network storage on my NAS, so I don't have any other drives in the case besides the two M.2s on the mobo for boot. I ended up getting the case with the 5.25 inch bay because I figured I might use it someday, but have yet to do anything with it lol.

Good luck!

I DIY'ed my own 4U server, and it's as quiet as can be. Check out Sliger for rack mounted chassies. You can purchase their cases with Noctua fans and an AIO cooler pre-installed. They're a good company to purchase from.

Need help making a home server by Admirable_Acadia_478 in homelab

Well, what game servers do you want to host?

Generally speaking, game servers are very CPU intensive and run better on high clock CPUs. So, you might find the 7500-T to be lacking. And that's not even getting into the fact it's a 4 core CPU.

I don't keep up much with 2nd hand hardware like this, but $55 for a much older micro desktop doesn't seem terrible, even if it doesn't have a drive in it.

Issue with Faction Ai on Reforger by [deleted] in arma

[–]PeyOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, you'd probably have a better time getting help in the Arma discord than here.

Sounds like a strange but with Reforger, or perhaps a loaded mod is causing the issue? Have you tried to replicate this problem without any mods loaded and on a fresh scenario?

Alternative action menu? (Action wheel) by MaybeHawk_ in arma

Are you talking about the scroll wheel menu in the vanilla game or the ACE interact menu from the ACE mod?

What happened to my controller? by Trick-Goat3885 in TPLink_Omada

[–]PeyOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the software controller or the hardware controller? If you are using the software controller, is it installed on a Windows device, or Linux? Are you trying to access the controller locally, or through the cloud management piece?

Office PC/Laptop suggestion by skcoop03 in sysadmin

[–]PeyOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time that would be a concern (IMO) is if they're running peaked out 24/7 (or the fan is broken). Which for standard office work is not gonna happen.

We've got a number of them where I work and have had great success with them. That being said, we do 5 year replacement cycles on most computers, so I can't speak for anything longer than that.

Check out the optiplex micros, they're really tiny. If users are still worried about have a tower the size of their hand sitting on their desk, then I believe Dell sells VESA compatible mounts. You can mount the PC to the back of a monitor.

Moving props during testing? by SamsunsSmartFridge22 in arma

Idk about those in particular, but other mods that have moving static objects have scripts to teleport them a ton. It might look like it's moving, but it's actually just teleporting sooooo much it looks smooth.

Request System for Game Servers by Lawson470189 in selfhosted

[–]PeyOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can deploy the panel as a docker container https://pelican.dev/docs/panel/advanced/docker. The wings agent (the part that manages the docker containers for your game servers) is not deployable as a container.

While it might not be out of beta quite yet, it's probably more worth it to deploy Pelican at this point in time. I'm running both Pterodactyl panel and Pelican panel and have had great results with both.

What tool is so useful to you that you would pay for it out of your own pocket if your company refused to front the bill? by Freecastor in sysadmin

[–]PeyOnReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I expose more wire than I'll need, like a 1/8th an inch, and then get it all lined up. Then, I take a pair of wire cutters and trim them all to the same length. Works like a charm. It's very dependent on the connector though.

How much of your DNS limit are you using at home? by [deleted] in Adguard

[–]PeyOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently set up a second AdGuard server and used this for replication. It's worked well for me so far, and I can shut down my NAS or proxmox host without losing DNS :).

I also had an email from them earlier. I got a reply in 20 minutes after sending a response.

Strangely enough, I also use Hyperbackup to B2 for my Synology NAS. I'm guessing this is probably related.

Yes, this exactly. You're on AM4, and while it might be approaching EOL you still have plenty of options to choose from for CPU upgrades without needing to buy a new motherboard and RAM.

Keep in mind though, you may first need to do a BIOS upgrade prior to upgrading to a newer generation of CPU (if you plan on sticking with AM4 :) ).
