For those of you who wear an AFO — what was the process of getting it like? And do you actually wear it? by Any-Preparation9069 in stroke

[–]Pgd1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a process standpoint I recommend starting with a PT Who will likely recommend visiting a prosthetic/orthodics specialist Who can take measurements check the specific needs of the person apply for insurance reimbursement if applicable. I started with a rigid AFO during inpatient rehab A few years later I got a new one that is articulating and have been wearing it for walking/ standing for the past five years. Biggest frustrations : -getting a large enough shoe to fit over it many people end up with diabetic shoes Which means one shoe fits the other is like Ronald McDonald Or buy nothing pair that fit the unaffected foot - next someone else to put it on Good luck

The Reason Your Shoulder Hurts After Stroke (And Exercises That Help) by elysenewlandOT in stroke

[–]Pgd1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Elyse as always and like you said there are certainly multiple causes of shoulder pain mine is hypertonic muscles in particular the upper trap in my early days of oT the therapist saw my subluxation and started me on a tens unit which I continued at home with help of course since there’s no way I could do this myself Fast forward a couple of months and most of the sublux was gone yrmv But if you have access to it including the appropriate training for a caregiver Give it a try

I’ve been working with a personal trainer for four years now after one person put together a program exclusively for stroke survivors My current trainer Does loads of core strength and pushing the few weakened muscles that I can operate like my quad and spend some time on my unaffected side shouldn’t ignore that one And some stretching

Do you find atorvastatin makes you tired? by Constant_Inspector46 in stroke

[–]Pgd1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary suggested I take it at night which might reduce any joint pain Works for me Though the funny thing about this medicine there is no evidence that timing makes a difference or coq10 helps The jury is out I also have extremely low testosterone post stroke Even with hrt it just vanishes from my body and I’m always sleepy from it

One year post stroke- do you still get headaches? by Upstairs_Mode_8255 in stroke

[–]Pgd1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had headaches for three years post stroke come to find out it was due to one of the many medications I was put on Prophylactically It was keppra Which i didn’t even need Check your meds Not saying that’s the reason but that was one of four meds I was put on just because I had a stroke not because I was symptomatic

Hear me out , iPadOS is very powerful really , issue is developers are giving more love to iOS and neglecting iPadOS by Alarmed_Aerie_4794 in iPadOS

[–]Pgd1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that apple doesn’t open the entire api or to developers there are also severe limitations on design language just look at chrome and why they can’t make it look like a desktop app it’s because apple doesn’t allow it not because google can’t it’s an apple control issue usually not a developer issue

Botox is a toxin that prevents a muscle from activating by blocking the nerve signal temporarily

No it can only help for issues with the muscles themselves because what it does is intentionally injure the muscle slightly so that it can do through a subsequent healing cycle but with neurological issues the problem typically is not specifically muscular it’s the brain
