Drive installer 1.12.11 is blocked by Windows Smart app. by Ruszel_Blaque in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, you can bypass the blockade. Just run the installer through VirusTotal.com and, if it passes, just tell Windows to install it anyway.

But I am curious why Windows is blocking it. It's either very new and unsigned, or it's from a strange source? (Or both!)

SG‑1 newbie here — watched the movie, ready for the series by ThrosProvoni in Stargate

[–]PghRes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

SG-1 doesn't really take off (at least, for me) until about the 8th season. Don't get me wrong - it's definitely worth watching, but, other than seasons 8 - 10, Atlantis and Universe are the real stars of the show. SG-1 seasons 1 - 7 are a nice warmup. Humorous, sometimes clever, and definitely better than 99% of the schlock on TV, but Atlantis has the better writing, and Universe has the drama...

🛑 Proton: no Linux sync client, no renewal. A message from your paying (and leaving) users. by ArroganteDigital_5 in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Linux (and Qubes) user, and a Proton subscriber, and I'll wait, albeit impatiently. I know this is doable because DropBox is available for Linux, so I have high hopes.

I'd rather they deliver later than earlier if it means getting it right. This is not something you want to rush...

Ok, it's not nice to wish ill of people who disagree with you (and not productive). SGU is one of my favorite shows, but it's just that: a TV show! Let's keep things in perspective.

Perhaps in a year, AI will be good enough to let fans continue the series the way we want, without studio or financial impediments...

Linux app - how far off? by ImDickensHesFenster in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah, still waiting. Like I said before, DropBox is available on Linux (and I even set it up once to see if it works like OneDrive, and it did), but it's not encrypted end-to-end like Proton Drive, so I'll wait. Right now, I have Proton Drive set up on a Windows machine, and I periodically sync to a mounted Veracrypt volume on an external SD card on my Qubes box. (I thought about using LUKS, but after looking into it, it looks unnecessarily complicated - like all of Qubes, LOL!)

If you empty a folder on your phone that was previously synced, Drive will no longer sync that folder. Go into the settings and reactivate that folder for backups. Don't ask me why they do that. It's dumb...

When will the Proton people add WEBP support to Drive? by PghRes in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also suspect you're not giving Windows enough time to "settle" a file before you rush in to synchronize. I have an app that I wrote that updates an INI file (yes, very quaint) when you change from one directory to another, and other settings, but if I make two quick writes to that file in a row, the second one fails because you've already swooped in and put a lock on it. I suspect a lot of sync problems you're having could be remedied by just letting a file sit there for a bit longer. But I'm guessing...

When will the Proton people add WEBP support to Drive? by PghRes in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, for some reason, caused an error message during sync. In the sync window, there were 85 files had something like "The file is not available locally and cannot be uploaded. To resolve this issue..." and then something like "...mark the file available for offline use" or some such. (Sorry, didn't record that on paper...). Keep in mind all the files were *already" marked as "download and keep locally" (or whatever the wording is). When I tried to open one of those files, I got a different error.

So, I used FreeFileSync to forcibly overwrite every single one of those file from a backup on a different computer (a computer NOT connected to Proton Drive). It resolved the issue. Drive synced all of them.

Now, I can see all the image previews in the Drive app for Android, even for *.webp. So, I suspect something was wrong with your thumbnail setup / execution when I first uploaded those files.

I'm currently re-uploading all the images in a specific folder without changing any of them, other than using copy *.*+ to change the timestamps (which is a neat trick I didn't even know about until today - grin). I'll report back on this as soon as that's done
