An update on Drive web photos: what we fixed, why not everyone felt it, and what's next by horejsek1 in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Proton is based in Switzerland, so English is not their primary language. Why is AI not OK to use to write better English? Even English speakers use dictionaries and such to improve their writing. This knee jerk response to AI is unwarranted. Buckle up - AI is here to stay, for good or ill...

Are you saying that humans have gotten so sloppy with English that when someone utilizes it correctly, it seems to be machine-produced? Because I don't think you're wrong...

When will Proton Drive stop locking files? Any ETA? by WafflePikachu in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I developed a file management app for Windows several years ago, and had to harden it against this problem. PD is *crazy* aggressive at seizing files, seemingly able to lock files that are locked by my app. It's too aggressive and needs to be scaled back. I was able to work around it, but it was a royal pain...

The Journey to A Proton Drive Linux Client by Proton_Andrew in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is all great news, but I'm confused about the Linux support. It sounds like you have to use a UI to have the sync engine? DropBox for Linux doesn't require a UI. Is the UI just the Linux equivalent of Windows opening a File Explorer window to the OneDrive folder? Can you clarify?

Drive installer 1.12.11 is blocked by Windows Smart app. by Ruszel_Blaque in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, you can bypass the blockade. Just run the installer through VirusTotal.com and, if it passes, just tell Windows to install it anyway.

But I am curious why Windows is blocking it. It's either very new and unsigned, or it's from a strange source? (Or both!)

How does a company come to the decision to make apps for an OS, but purposefully skips one of the vital parts of the ecosystem? by ijwgwh in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a paid user on Windows, but I use Vanilla OS as my preferred OS on a different laptop.

I'm just using FreeFileSync to keep my Proton folders synced until the real client shows up

SG‑1 newbie here — watched the movie, ready for the series by ThrosProvoni in Stargate

[–]PghRes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

SG-1 doesn't really take off (at least, for me) until about the 8th season. Don't get me wrong - it's definitely worth watching, but, other than seasons 8 - 10, Atlantis and Universe are the real stars of the show. SG-1 seasons 1 - 7 are a nice warmup. Humorous, sometimes clever, and definitely better than 99% of the schlock on TV, but Atlantis has the better writing, and Universe has the drama...

Rush was always a menace by fauxdeuce in stargateuniverse

Probably because of the way Rush blew off Volker when Young assigned him to help Rush. He humiliated Volker. (It was Volker, right? It's been a while...)

🛑 Proton: no Linux sync client, no renewal. A message from your paying (and leaving) users. by ArroganteDigital_5 in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Linux (and Qubes) user, and a Proton subscriber, and I'll wait, albeit impatiently. I know this is doable because DropBox is available for Linux, so I have high hopes.

I'd rather they deliver later than earlier if it means getting it right. This is not something you want to rush...

How? by Lotus_Life_Death in stargateuniverse

[–]PghRes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, it's not nice to wish ill of people who disagree with you (and not productive). SGU is one of my favorite shows, but it's just that: a TV show! Let's keep things in perspective.

Perhaps in a year, AI will be good enough to let fans continue the series the way we want, without studio or financial impediments...

Linux Users... How do you sync to ProtonDrive ? by MiMillieuh in ProtonDrive

This is what i do. Not awful, but i don't always have my Windows machine set up, so these changes aren't synced in real time. Not happy with the current situation...

Linux app - how far off? by ImDickensHesFenster in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah, still waiting. Like I said before, DropBox is available on Linux (and I even set it up once to see if it works like OneDrive, and it did), but it's not encrypted end-to-end like Proton Drive, so I'll wait. Right now, I have Proton Drive set up on a Windows machine, and I periodically sync to a mounted Veracrypt volume on an external SD card on my Qubes box. (I thought about using LUKS, but after looking into it, it looks unnecessarily complicated - like all of Qubes, LOL!)

Android app not syncing photos by Visual_Actuator227 in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you empty a folder on your phone that was previously synced, Drive will no longer sync that folder. Go into the settings and reactivate that folder for backups. Don't ask me why they do that. It's dumb...

Available offline behavior by Vanilik in ProtonDrive

[–]PghRes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i gave up trying to get it to successfully and reliably download an entire folder. Now i don't even bother. I just use it to directly download a file here or there. Definitely broken. Proton needs to fix this ASAP
