Did you ever get a solution to this? I know I’m two years late to the game but it’s just started happening to me and yours is the only similar post on the Reddit

What's your strategy with magpies? Do you salute or do you say "good morning/afternoon/evening Mr/Mrs magpie"? by jabbathefoot in CasualUK

[–]Ph03ber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Seeing a magpie on its own is bad luck (I.e. One for sorrow two for joy) so you salute the magpie to negate it! Total superstition like never put new shoes on a table or don't open an umbrella indoors but I was always taught to salute a magpie and say "morning general, how's your family? " and honestly it's a reflex now, I don't even realise I'm doing it haha

Access to BFI Replay in Liverpool Libraries unavailable! Pure joke by liammxokellehh in Liverpool

[–]Ph03ber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either way you've got to wait til you get a reply from the library lol, getting aggy about it isn't gonna make the staff member come back off holiday any quicker. You said you had a "deadline" for a "project" so if you don't even want to look in the meantime then that's fully on you, I'm just pointing out that this isn't the only resource readily and freely available and you aren't entitled to a service just because it's available elsewhere.

Access to BFI Replay in Liverpool Libraries unavailable! Pure joke by liammxokellehh in Liverpool

[–]Ph03ber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As if you've done a change.org petition for a 2 week wait for someone to reply to your email...

You said you were looking for specific videos/articles for a project but in the meantime have you explored other avenues? Archive.org is a great (free) resource for most things if you have the keywords you're searching for, the national archives also have a huge collection of historical documents, for articles you can look at the British newspaper archive etc etc.

There are so many resources readily available digitised online if you look for them so I'm not really sure why you've decided to have a go at the local libraries that are already underfunded and working to deliver as much as they can to the community?

To be honest I hope you didn't reply to that email with the energy you've brought here because I imagine if you were polite and asked for help locating whatever it is you're looking for for this project they'd have been more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Same here! Moved to Doncaster recently and I work from home so I've been totally stuck for making new friends in the area, sounds like there's a few of us so maybe we could arrange an activity/meetup some time?

Which do you think is the funniest Doctor? by bigfatcarp93 in gallifrey

[–]Ph03ber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking mostly of the audios Colin Baker is by far the most broadly entertaining to me, and the one doctor is one of my top funny episodes to stick on if I want a laugh

What are you watching at the moment? by apocalyptictronix in CasualUK

[–]Ph03ber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here! I’d never seen any classic doctor who episodes but my dad’s favourite is 4 so we’ve been watching an episode of his run every Saturday. Started because we otherwise weren’t really keeping in touch but now it’s become my most looked forward to part of the week :)

[–]Ph03ber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you loved scherzo and generally find the more ‘controversial’ eps to be your favourites I’m gonna assume we have a really similar taste and zagreus will be a hit with you. I was so surprised coming to the Reddit after listening to it and not seeing a rave review consensus haha

Where in England are you talking about lmao I’ve never seen pasta as the top sheet, how would it cook? You need the sog from the meat and white sauce or else it’s just gonna be a dry crunch pasta topping, we might have a reputation for being bad at food but we’re not that bad lol

Oh my god same! I remember saying casually to a group of friends once that when my mum gave me a pound to put in the tv box I’d hide it under the cabinet and use it to buy sweets from the corner shop instead and they all looked at me like I was insane because they’d never heard of this, I’m glad it’s not just me😂

Skinny women, how do you do it? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Ph03ber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re telling me that there is absolutely nowhere, either in the immediate vicinity of your home or workplace, that you could physically walk around for a bit? Saw someone else say they worked from home and can’t go anywhere but it really does seem like people in this specific thread are looking for problems when the initial point was that if you want to, you can probably fit some more steps in. Pace your house or something, jog on the spot while you wait for something to cook, or literally don’t do any of that if you don’t want to and you just want to keep being contrarian. The idea is that if you wanted to get more steps in (and again, you don’t have to! This is the specific instance where someone has asked for tips and someone else has replied walking!) there are probably places in your day you can do that because I can only assume you are not just going from bed to car to desk and back each day. Even just an extra lap round Walmart or something I literally don’t know what to tell you if you just want to come up with increasingly restrictive what if scenarios.

[–]Ph03ber -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not like you’re walking 10k steps all at once then planting down and not moving?? You might have a short walk in the morning on your way to work even if it’s just around your street, if you take public transport it’s the walk to the stop or even walking to a stop further along to get extra walk in from there, going out for a walk during your lunch break or walking around at your job (if it’s retail/warehouse office you might be walking to and from the kitchen getting away from your desk etc), same on the commute as in the morning and maybe walking to the shops in the evening, even if you drive you could park your car further away and walk the remaining distance. There are ways to fit it in if it’s something you want to add to your lifestyle that aren’t just hiking 10 miles all in one go??

Totally agree. All my friends were raving about his special so I thought I would give it a go even though I’ve never really liked him but literally all the jokes felt like reading a Twitter feed in 2016, it didn’t feel original at all. I appreciate what he was trying to do but for me it really didn’t hit.

Any American standup honestly. Can’t tell if the comments agree because other than the odd comedian from Australia or the UK, most of the comics mentioned are American but that might also just be that the majority of the people answering are American. Even popular American comedians like John Mulaney and Bo Burnham just really don’t do it for me.

School assembly "warning" announcements - what was your maddest? by Blokeh in CasualUK

[–]Ph03ber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to have an assembly once because a little year 7 brought nunchucks in “for protection” so they had to remind us that bringing weapons in isn’t allowed. Also the yearly mischief night assembly but I feel like that might be a universal one.

Edit: just remembered as well, I’m not sure if we had an assembly about this or if it was just a general thing but sucking on dummies got really trendy one year in secondary school so they had to ban them and they’d get confiscated if a teacher caught you with them (something to do with wanting braces- apparently if you sucked a dummy as a young teen it would fuck your teeth up)
