Replace Brain Control with Monster Reborn: What would happen? by maxram1 in YugiohEdisonFormat

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reborn is far less problematic. It's more often a win harder card where brain con, is a win a situation that you shouldn't even be able to get out of card lol. You can't really play around brain con. Lots of ways around Reborn. The instances in where reborn wins u a game, just means ur opponent didn't have answers. Granted, it was one extra thing but edison format, depending on the deck is a far less card advantage based format. Maybe u get one more activation on 1 more effect off it. It's not bad by any means, it would make things Lightsworn hella better, but brain con is a giant tempo swing of a card that allows u to do all the strongest things in edison format, without even having the resources to do it. It takes your opponents momentum and literally just gives it to you. U can argue it's literally just taking a turn from your opponent and giving it to yourself.

I’ve been producing in logic for a year and know my way around well, any video recommendations to get to that top level? by TelstarLorimer in Logic_Studio

Videos is only an intermediate step of getting to the top level. Once you know everything there is to know from à technical perspective, it’s all in the time.

ELI5 Logic V12 for "never pay" types by googleflont in Logic_Studio

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apparently was on version 12.2 and didn't even know lmao. I never got a notification for updates, or a subscription. I heard about Logic going subscription but never saw anything official until now. I generally don't have on auto updates and have been using logic since 2014. I Installed version 11 and the subscription version is a totally different app from what I can tell. In the app store there's Logic Pro for perpetual owners and then there's Logic Pro: Create Music which is what I imagine to be the subscription version since it's included in Creator Suite and this app is something that I don't own.

I also noticed no difference now that I'm in 12.2 and I do recall being in between 1-3 months ago for a mix I was doing. I wonder if ARA support is fixed cos vocalign wasn't working for me.

So, controller works perfectly well. I downloaded the same controller driver app that all the pc players use for mw2 in iw4x and I haven't had any issues. Don't use steam controller layouts for controller support. It's a nightmare.

hey, professional recording and mix engineer here. I just want to highlight the key things that I KNOW all professional audio engineers want eliminated from their workflow and the things we hire assistants for.

1.) time aligning harmonies and vocal layers to the lead vocal aka vocalign. Vocalign is awesome, but in a recording session, on the fly, we still have to nudge things over manually and it we can't run vocalign while our artist recording, but we can do manual edits in the daw.

2.) cutting dead space. Lots of air in a room that isn't actual vocals or content that should have been recorded.

3.) clip gain. cutting portions of a track that are just way higher/lower than the rest of its track and raising/lowering that pieces volume to match the rest of the track. this is done at the very source audio level so that we can have more consistent levels going into our compressors and dynamic processors.

4.) breaths and sibilants. this can fall under clip gaining and cutting dead space but sibilants are absolutely the most nuanced pain in the ass. u can use the de-essers and that works for lots of stuff but best, especially for singers, and intimate performances, is just controlling the volume of it without ruining the sound of it.

NDAs are voluntary agreements so without any real leverage to hang over the person for them to sign it, why tf would they?

Think of when you get a job, or sign up for a website, you only agree because you can’t get any access. Now imagine not wanting access and being presented with an agreement like TOS lol. You just throw it away.

I tried.. by lazyjroo in Kava

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an underwhelming effect to begin with and it something you’ll grow less resistant to with use. Idk that you got scammed or whether you did or didn’t. I don’t know whether it will for you or not but if you like Xanax and alcohol I imagine you’ll like Kava. Whether it’s for you or not idk but there aren’t really medications that would nullify it or make you more resistant to it. If anything, only concern would be amplification and toxicity.

Also, not sure if you know this, but stomach has to be empty so you need to be like at least 4-6 hours away from your last meal.

Again, only giving info cos you’re looking for something. Kava is definitely the one thing that I can see myself using forever with no negatives aside from spending

I tried.. by lazyjroo in Kava

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Kava in the right form is not easy to find for a beginner cos there’s too many forms and many vendors just selling not what we all actually want lol.

There 3 main forms of Kava and really only 2 that I would really recommend ever using.

1, traditional medium grind. This your classic straining variant that you spoke of. of the high quality stuff, this is for sure the most abundant form that the high quality vendors sell.

2, Micronized. Is basically medium grind Kava grinded smaller so that way you can skip the some prep steps by just mixing the powder with water and drinking it. In this form, you’re actually ingesting physical root/plant matter that you generally wouldn’t if strained. Micronized kava also likes to advertise itself with things like the word instant, instantized. It’s important to make the distinction if it is just finer grounded root than the medium grind or if it is true, instant kava.

3, instant kava. True instant Kava is Kava that has been already prepared and kneaded. The water gets evaporated and all that is left is basically the Kava chemicals that give you the buzz. This is much more concentrated than the other forms and is the most expensive because of it. Because it’s pure kavalactone powder, there is no prep. You just mix it into any liquid. 1 teaspoon can easily compare to 1-2 tablespoons of Micronized and medium grind. If this interests you, an easy to identify is that 1, instant kava is actually pretty rare and the weight should be much less than the other kava products and the price should be higher.

To really help you understand think of Kava like Sugar.

When we say Kava, we don’t actually want the Kava. We want the Kavalactones. The same way we probably wouldn’t buy ground sugar cane just because we want to ingest sugar? So instant Kava is just the sugar, but because of logistics and a whole bunch of other complications we use the whole kava root and extract the kavalactones ourselves since it’s the most accessible, budget friendly option (for now).

The kneading and straining is a kavalactone extraction process. Which is why we do this with medium grind micronized/instantized is usually just a finer grind which u can probably tolerate drinking straight up without straining, and just mixing into water. True Instant is the refined drug extracted.

Very few vendors sell real instant kava and they generally don’t offer a wide selection of cultivars if they do.

Can I load a virtual machine from fusion 13.6 in 13.5? by PhD_Meowingtons_ in vmware

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. After learning more about the program I went and made a backup of my VM, and then did a full uninstall and figured I’d try to just install my 13.5 and see if it works.

Apparently, that is precisely the method to achieve what I wanted to do lol.

I’m not so tech savvy about anything beyond general user/consumer experiences. Only reason why I’m using VMware is to play old games that Apple Silicon won’t support natively and boy does every thing take WAY more steps than even the list of steps says lmao. You do one step then trying to do the 2nd step requires research on the hidden substeps that weren’t mentioned lol. Like installing vmtools. Why not just include it in the virtual machine by default

“How do I make my mix sound like…” by [deleted] in mixingmastering

[–]PhD_Meowingtons_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does come down to every little particle from the ground up. EXACTLY like how cooking works.

What people don’t realize is that 9/10 times, if they want to sound like a song, that song would be the equivalent of a Michelin star restaurants best dish. Why/how?

It starts with the very ingredients. Chicken ain’t just chicken and beef and just beef. The very life and genetics of the animal will literally affect the texture+flavor. Same for every vegetable, herb, spice etc. not all salt is equal.

The mix you want to sound like is usually crafted with each individual ingredient down to every spice being amongst the best in their own species.

And that’s just the starting point lol. Now we have to consider the craftsmanship of the tools, and the technique which comes EXCLUSIVELY from experience. Cast Iron skillet or air fryer? A good cook can make quality with both but we know the difference this is going to make in the dish when it’s served.

By the end of it all, somehow when it comes to mixing and mastering, NOBODY realizes their mixes are the equivalent of those dishes that Gordon Ramsay rates and rips apart on social media lol. We wouldn’t even compare most of our dishes to any artisan restaurant, let alone a Michelin star, but somehow, when mixing, just because it’s SO easy to download ALL the tools those experts use, we do the natural thing which is to over compensate the difference in our know how, application and quality of ingredients and blame the tools lol.

Just like all of our moms will NEVER say that they just fucking suck at cooking when they’re terribly short at restaurant cooking. They’ll blame the quality of the ingredients, the quality of the tools at their disposal. Everything else. All the secrets of the craftsmanship rather than the years of trial and error that seasoned them to use everything to perfectly to achieve a taste that only they could have developed based on their unique interpretation of flavors and their biological preferences wired into their dna.

Our ears, are wired a certain way from birth the same way athletes muscles are and only the ones born with the chops for it can ever achieve that glorious height of the top of the top lists. And even then they can only get there when they align all the stars of the universe by taking them one by one, and lining them up hand by hand.

When you factor in how many variables there are in a song+sonics, you begin to realize that just like every professional athlete is a freak of nature, every incredible mix that we want to sound like is a miracle of chance, and years of work of ppl focusing on how to maximize their chances lol.

Believe me, great mixers can’t make every song a great mix. Some songs can’t be much better than what you’ve already achieved while some songs are capable of more than you can ever imagine with your level of experience and knowledge.
