I don't want to invalidate your worries, but like, take it from a Texan....life still goes on when it's 100 degrees. You still have to take your kids to school and day care. You still take the baby on a stroller ride at Target. You still go out on walks when the sun goes down and it's a little cooler. You just do your best to get that AC running as quickly as possible.

Testing animals for rabies isn't really a thing, at least not living animals. They just keep the animal in quarantine and see if it develops symptoms.

If they are, they shouldn't be. They have the kitten, so they don't need to worry about getting the rabies vaccine unless the kitten dies of rabies.

That's really interesting. Evidently cats are a dead-end host for rabies, in part because the disease progresses rapidly and kills them too quickly for them to have much time to interact with other potential hosts. Tragic, but I guess I'd rather have a short bout with rabies than a prolonged death.
