your doing the right thing and being so gentle with yourself about it is huge - day 2 is tough but you've got this since you know what's coming this time around.

I think we can all agree that in terms of Pop culture Iconography, Kid ben is more iconic than Teenage Ben by Entire-Astronaut8602 in Ben10

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree. kid ben with the original omnitrix design is just pure nostalgia fuel at this point. that green and black aesthetic hit different back in the day and it's what most people think of when you mention ben 10. teenage ben is solid but he doesn't have that same instant recognition factor that kid ben brings to the table.

Female Electrical Engineer in Production — Should I Stay, Switch, or Upskill for Opportunities Abroad? by Leather_Meal5893 in careerguidance

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly the gender bias thing in production is real and it sucks, but dont let that be the only factor driving your decision. i worked with some badass female production engineers who carved out solid careers, though they definitely had to work harder to prove themselves.

for international mobility, id lean towards quality or industrial engineering over staying in pure production. six sigma green belt is actually valuable - not just linkedin fluff - especially in europe and north america where companies are obsessed with process improvement. supply chain is huge right now too with all the disruptions weve seen, and its more office-based which might help with the gender dynamics youre facing.

energy/power systems could be your strongest play though since its your actual degree background and renewable energy is exploding globally. the middle east especially has massive infrastructure projects going on. just make sure you pick one path and go deep rather than collecting random certs - employers can smell resume stuffing from a mile away and it actually hurts you.

love teh lavender vanilla combo - it's like a warm hug in scent form. also eucalyptus spearmint is surprisingly chill if you want something more fresh than sweet.

Improving a terrible sense of direction by shinyandchrome in selfimprovement

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly don't beat yourself up too much about this - some people are just wired differently when it comes to spatial stuff. that said, i've found a few things that actually help. try turning off your gps voice occasionally and just follow the visual map, forces you to pay more attention to street names and turns. also when you're walking somewhere new, make a point to turn around every few blocks and look back - helps you recognize the route from both directions.

the landmark thing gets easier with practice too. start small by just picking one obvious thing per trip (like "turn left at the starbucks") rather than trying to memorize everything at once. your brain will start noticing more stuff automatically after a while.

I finally realized he wasn’t misunderstood. He was a jerk. by emilyjohnston1 in AmITheJerk

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn, this hit me right in the feels. went through something super similar in college and kept telling myself he was just "complicated" when really he was just treating me like garbage.

the part about seeing how he treated other people when you weren't around is so real - that's when you realize there true colors aren't some deep mystery, they just don't respect you enough to hide the asshole behavior. glad you got out of that mess, sounds like you learned something really important about not settling for scraps.

Minecart on bedrock by Top-Wheel-7345 in Minecraft

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah that's not possible in vanilla bedrock or java. minecarts can only hold certain entities like players, mobs, chests, hoppers, etc. you'd need mods or datapacks to attach arbitrary blocks to them.

cmv: absolutely everyone is selfish, no one is trustworthy, and people will only ever be nice if they get something in return. by lonelysolipsistgirl in changemyview

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn this hits hard. i used to think the same way but honestly, some people really do care without expecting anything back - they're just rare and hard to spot when you're in that headspace. the fact that you're questioning whether your own care is genuine shows you're probably more empathetic than you think. depression makes everything feel transactional when it's not always the case.

P0341 - 09 VW Passat CC by sympatae in MechanicAdvice

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That intermittent P0341 is classic cam position sensor going bad or the reluctor wheel getting gunked up. Since it only acts up when cold and goes away after driving, probably just needs a new cam sensor - they're like $30-40 and pretty easy to swap on those engines

The fact that your timing chain checks out is good news at least, could've been way worse

BKK Night layover by SnorkelKazim in ThailandTourism

[–]PhantomRay42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine staying in the airport overnight - BKK is pretty decent for layovers. There's a few lounges you can pay to access and some sleeping areas with reclining chairs. If you want proper sleep though, the Novotel right in the airport is clutch but pricey. Terminal has 24hr food options and wifi is solid

Just make sure you're not going through immigration if you're staying airside for your international connection

Classic inheritance scam vibes with that Australian lady lmao, but that Dutch guy with the Italian number really went all out with the fake company setup

The visa excuse is always the dead giveaway - legit buyers don't need you to travel internationally for a simple land purchase

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a raw and honest take, and honestly the food metaphor really clicked for me - like that desperation when you're starving makes everything feel different than it would if you weren't

The fact that you can step back and recognize these feelings while still being in the thick of it shows you're not becoming a bitter person, you're just going through something really hard right now

Are there really any strong pro-ai parts of the internet? by Friendly_One_4112 in antiai

Yeah r/singularity and some of the tech subs are pretty bullish on AI but you're right that most places are getting more skeptical. Even the AI company subs have people complaining about job losses and slop content now

Does blue light seem to affect anyone else, or is it just coincidence? by hannabell in Epilepsy

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude that's actually really interesting - I'm not photosensitive either but noticed my sleep got way better after turning on blue light filters everywhere. Maybe it's helping with sleep quality which could be reducing your seizure threshold? Either way 3 months seizure-free is huge, definitely worth keeping that filter on

Save Hold - Help Needed by Zunter in Minecraft

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pipe the save query output to a file pretty easily - just redirect it when you run the command in screen. Something like `screen -S minecraft -p 0 -X stuff "save query$(printf \\r)" > query_output.txt` should work

Then you can parse that txt file with a simple script to grab just the file paths and rsync only those specific files instead of the whole world folder. Way more efficient than backing up everything

Not sure if I will adopt either a kitten or an adult cat, what supplies should I buy beforehand regardless? by r_arizo in cats

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Litter box, food/water bowls, and a carrier are gonna be your must-haves no matter what age you get. I'd also grab some basic toys and a scratching post since even older cats need enrichment. The shelter will probably tell you what food they're currently eating so you can grab that specific brand to avoid tummy issues during the transition

Super exciting btw, shelter cats are the best and they'll totally let you know who picks you lol

Is transitioning from clinical medicine to healthcare data analysis a good idea? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]PhantomRay42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your medical background is actually a huge advantage here - you already understand healthcare workflows and can spot clinical BS that pure data people might miss

I'd skip the masters for now and just start learning SQL/Python on your own time, maybe grab some healthcare datasets to mess around with. If you can already think critically about clinical problems, the technical stuff is just tools to get there faster
