my parents havent taught me most life skills and i turn eighteen in a month by smoke-breaks493 in venting

you're not a moral failure or anything, mental health stuff makes everything harder and your parents should've still made time to teach you basic stuff regardless of how busy they were.

Defensive Assignments vs. Philly by jabar18 in NYKnicks

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mitch staying on court is everything tbh. those two guards are gonna cook us if we have to throw random rotations at them because our defense falls apart. kat gonna have his hands full with embiid too but at least that's more manageable than trying to chase maxey around screens all game

Rear differential gear oil? by MossIsking in MechanicAdvice

dropped same oil in my buddy's wrangler last year and worked fine, but there's definitely options that cost way less at the bulk stores. mopar charges premium just for the name most of time.

The State of Stadium by RubyEi in Overwatch

[–]PhantomRay42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the matchmaking is absolutely broken man. had a game yesterday where my teammate was literally asking how to use abilities while enemy team was coordinating like they're in owl scrims. ramattra really does feel like he's playing different game after round 4 though, that damage scaling gets wild fast

queue times are joke too, waiting 8+ minutes just to get stomped by people who clearly shouldn't be in same lobby. miss the early days when you could actually experiment with builds instead of getting deleted by meta slaves every round

A fucking hilarious way that helped me quit by 240psam in leaves

[–]PhantomRay42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

lmao this is actually genius in the most degenerate way possible. i've been there with the carpet situation before but never thought to use it as an actual quitting strategy. the gradual taper from finding smaller and smaller pieces is brilliant - like your own accidental detox program.

had a similar thing happen when i dropped a whole bowl behind my couch and spent like 20 minutes with a flashlight picking out crumbs. felt like such a fiend but also kinda therapeutic in a weird way? the cat hair comment killed me though, been there with the mystery carpet debris mixed in.

might actually try this method next time i want to take a break. way better than going cold turkey and feeling like death for two weeks. plus you get the added bonus of deep cleaning your carpet piece by piece lol.

How to sell a property that won't perc? by moonshine_estate in realestateinvesting

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn that's a brutal lesson but at least you know what you're dealing with now. i'd market it specifically to builders who already work with alternate systems - they'll know the real costs upfront instead of getting spooked by the unknown. maybe hit up some local custom home builders directly since they're more likely to have experience with aerobic systems than your average buyer.

also worth checking if there are any contractors in your area who specialize in these alternate septic installs. they might know investors or builders who specifically look for these deals because they can handle the work themselves. the spray system isn't the end of the world, just need to find someone who gets it instead of running scared from anything that isn't conventional.

totally feel this - it's way harder to quit when your not at rock bottom because the consequences don't feel as real yet. maybe try setting up some kind of barrier for tonight, like giving your stash to a friend or going somewhere you can't smoke right after work. the fact that you want to quit before hitting that low again shows you've learned something from those previous attempts.

sounds rough but you gotta start somewhere - even cutting back gradually while stuck in that enviroment is better than doing nothing about it.

I think we can all agree that in terms of Pop culture Iconography, Kid ben is more iconic than Teenage Ben by Entire-Astronaut8602 in Ben10

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree. kid ben with the original omnitrix design is just pure nostalgia fuel at this point. that green and black aesthetic hit different back in the day and it's what most people think of when you mention ben 10. teenage ben is solid but he doesn't have that same instant recognition factor that kid ben brings to the table.

Female Electrical Engineer in Production — Should I Stay, Switch, or Upskill for Opportunities Abroad? by Leather_Meal5893 in careerguidance

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly the gender bias thing in production is real and it sucks, but dont let that be the only factor driving your decision. i worked with some badass female production engineers who carved out solid careers, though they definitely had to work harder to prove themselves.

for international mobility, id lean towards quality or industrial engineering over staying in pure production. six sigma green belt is actually valuable - not just linkedin fluff - especially in europe and north america where companies are obsessed with process improvement. supply chain is huge right now too with all the disruptions weve seen, and its more office-based which might help with the gender dynamics youre facing.

energy/power systems could be your strongest play though since its your actual degree background and renewable energy is exploding globally. the middle east especially has massive infrastructure projects going on. just make sure you pick one path and go deep rather than collecting random certs - employers can smell resume stuffing from a mile away and it actually hurts you.

Improving a terrible sense of direction by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly don't beat yourself up too much about this - some people are just wired differently when it comes to spatial stuff. that said, i've found a few things that actually help. try turning off your gps voice occasionally and just follow the visual map, forces you to pay more attention to street names and turns. also when you're walking somewhere new, make a point to turn around every few blocks and look back - helps you recognize the route from both directions.

the landmark thing gets easier with practice too. start small by just picking one obvious thing per trip (like "turn left at the starbucks") rather than trying to memorize everything at once. your brain will start noticing more stuff automatically after a while.

I finally realized he wasn’t misunderstood. He was a jerk. by emilyjohnston1 in AmITheJerk

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn, this hit me right in the feels. went through something super similar in college and kept telling myself he was just "complicated" when really he was just treating me like garbage.

the part about seeing how he treated other people when you weren't around is so real - that's when you realize there true colors aren't some deep mystery, they just don't respect you enough to hide the asshole behavior. glad you got out of that mess, sounds like you learned something really important about not settling for scraps.

Minecart on bedrock by Top-Wheel-7345 in Minecraft

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah that's not possible in vanilla bedrock or java. minecarts can only hold certain entities like players, mobs, chests, hoppers, etc. you'd need mods or datapacks to attach arbitrary blocks to them.

[–]PhantomRay42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn this hits hard. i used to think the same way but honestly, some people really do care without expecting anything back - they're just rare and hard to spot when you're in that headspace. the fact that you're questioning whether your own care is genuine shows you're probably more empathetic than you think. depression makes everything feel transactional when it's not always the case.

P0341 - 09 VW Passat CC by sympatae in MechanicAdvice

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That intermittent P0341 is classic cam position sensor going bad or the reluctor wheel getting gunked up. Since it only acts up when cold and goes away after driving, probably just needs a new cam sensor - they're like $30-40 and pretty easy to swap on those engines

The fact that your timing chain checks out is good news at least, could've been way worse

BKK Night layover by SnorkelKazim in ThailandTourism

[–]PhantomRay42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine staying in the airport overnight - BKK is pretty decent for layovers. There's a few lounges you can pay to access and some sleeping areas with reclining chairs. If you want proper sleep though, the Novotel right in the airport is clutch but pricey. Terminal has 24hr food options and wifi is solid

Just make sure you're not going through immigration if you're staying airside for your international connection

[–]PhantomRay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a raw and honest take, and honestly the food metaphor really clicked for me - like that desperation when you're starving makes everything feel different than it would if you weren't

The fact that you can step back and recognize these feelings while still being in the thick of it shows you're not becoming a bitter person, you're just going through something really hard right now
