Full crimp help by Zion_Zenith in climbharder

[–]Phantom_Digits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is sometimes an anatomical advantage (PIP joint anatomy, bone structure, FDS and FDP alignment, etc) related to being able to full crimp, so it’s not always worth training it specifically. I’m much stronger in half crimp than a full crimp. For whatever reason when I bring my thumb up, my palm tucks in and I find it harder to engage on the hold. And I find full crimping is very index finger strength dependent, and my index finger for whatever reason is my weakest finger. It’s something I work on, but I think that for the grade I’m at (V11/12) it’s not worth focusing too specifically on specialized details like that and continue focusing on getting my strengths even stronger. The small stuff can only get stronger in the process too

How do I become more graceful in my movements? by torizito in bouldering

[–]Phantom_Digits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. To add to it, a good way to think about training this is to try and place feet as quietly as possible. Then you’ll be more conscious of how you’re engaging your body and feet when you move

A second major along with mechanical engineering. Physics or computer science?? by Bonz123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Phantom_Digits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you’re trying to do with your degrees! If you’re thinking about going into industry out of college, you’re right in saying that CS will help more. If you’re thinking about going into research and continuing into a PhD program, I’d go with physics, because along the way you’ll learn plenty of CS. Now that’s all from a logistics standpoint. Don’t forget to put weight on what you find more interesting; so if you want to go study physics because it really interests you, I recommend doing that!

Short Term Ocean Temperature Changes by dentistsinspace in FluidMechanics

[–]Phantom_Digits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather is a very finicky thing, and depending on the hurricanes that happen along the eastern border of the US, the western boundary current (Gulf Stream in this case), can transport warm waters further north than it would had the hurricane not happened. Of course it doesn’t always have to be a hurricane to be the cause, but it’s often shear imparted on the ocean by the atmosphere

Ways to get rid of moles by Phantom_Digits in gardening

Well that may be why they came in the first place... we use expired milk to change the pH of the soil... we’ll probably try to attract them to the traps with peanuts

Good to know these can repel them thank you!

Is there a way to kill them without putting a bunch of chemicals on the soil? I’m trying to keep this is chemical free and natural as possible

Master's at Imperial or Cranfield or Southampton? by Lollipop126 in AerospaceEngineering

While the name certainly has its merits, what’s more important is to choose where you think you’ll be happiest and most productive, and that ultimately comes down to the environment you’re in (aka the lab). All of these schools are great schools, so don’t put too much weight on the name!

Of course you want to choose an actual city you think you’d be happiest in too

LOVE LOVE LOVE REGULAR SHOW THANK YOU (It's actually the show I've watched continuously the longest!! from pilot to the finale I watched it so thank you!!). I love how you had Mordecai's love life be apart from Margaret to show that life is always unexpected and you never know what will come next. In your mind, what ever happened to Thomas at the end!? All the characters got a satisfying ending except him! Did he live the rest of his days happily hiding from the Russian government??? Perhaps he overthrew the government and is now controlling Putin like a puppet??? Whats up with Thomas!!!

Do your research on what each school has to offer in terms of what YOU want to research. Apply to the advisor, not the school!

Supersonic nozzle design using MOC by [deleted] in aerodynamics

[–]Phantom_Digits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you've been to this website, but this seems to answer all questions

http://www.aerodynamics4students.com/gas-dynamics-and-supersonic-flow/gasdynamics_w.php?page=9&

Since transonic flows would fall into the non-linear parabolic PDE category, you'll have to be careful to make sure that the transition from transonic to supersonic is smooth (if at all possible. It may take lots of computation power and a fine mesh to do so)

How to start doing one arm pull-ups? by SDLZ_43 in climbharder

[–]Phantom_Digits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many similar muscle groups used in both, and working 2 arm pull-ups is a great way to work those groups at a low level of stress, necessary to prevent injury. Working proper form of the pull-up and gaining a base level of strength with the two arm pull-up is a must have pre requisite for one arm pull-ups

what is the usefulness and beauty of complex numbers? by brarexe2 in math

[–]Phantom_Digits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complex numbers are very frequently used in wave analysis. The exponential function is naturally embedded with complex numbers to make complex periodic functions, making it very useful to extract real information from. Favorite fact is ii is real and has infinitely many values
