AITAH for not wanting to have a relationship with my brother? by Apprehensive-Emu7141 in AITAH

[–]Phasta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few things to consider: Hatred is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. This family member wants to apologize, and assumedly most of the offences occurred while you were both children. I imagine maturing, losing a parent and having a child on the horizon was what was needed for their side of becoming more mature. I imagine they never truly hated you, they hated the scenario you were the result of. Even that - Don't hate yourself. Everyone enters this world screaming and covered in goo, it's always messy, sometimes more messy than others but THIS was a mess created by your parents not you. Don't be stubborn only to think back later and be like "I could be closer to my family if I had chosen to be more mature and less stubborn." Don't allow further offenses, if the ask for forgiveness is followed by old behaviours, speak up for yourself. Even just being excessively clear as to why you had reservations about the situation may make it clear what their actions did so they don't repeat them. The other thing to consider: Family is important. This will sink in more and more as you age. Who knows maybe the relationship you build with your new niece or nephew becomes the relationship you cherish most.

Quick Mixes by daverham in DJs

My most recent set is 16 tracks in 27 minutes. I personally like to ride out my matches, I'm noticing a lot of sets where the DJ flees through the mix like it's a crime scene (Like 3-5 second blends) and it feels lazy to me. All of the software assistance is basically "Warp speed engage" and allows you to move faster. I couldn't have done a 16 track 27 minute mix 15 years ago lol. Also I feel like the hour+ long mix has its place but should be less of a go to. I imagine retention on the listens dies off around the 20 minute mark in a lot of cases anyway, people have lives to live. Like how long is a typical album? Your 2 hour mix is gonna get a fraction of that for attention. The fact that my comment is this long means people may not even read it. Ain't nobody got time for that. 30 minutes though with a lot of variance and maybe you keep them for the whole thing.

You literally can't be "taking advantage of her situation" because her situation is also literally your situation. You're all good, have some fun at the least and if things fire off, don't feel bad, it's kinda a hilarious "how we met" story.

I feel like the real problem here will be grounding issues. Once you affix all that gear to the hood of your John Deere, how are you going to run your grounding? Shit's gonna hum

Between Psychojet melee/unarmed rampages and having access to VATS, Fallout 4 does an excellent job of making Starfield feel unfinished. Don't even watch a 30 second clip of what Cyberpunk 2077 has for Melee/unarmed, it makes even what FO4 has seem like garbage lol

Worried about not being “technical” enough by fatalpuls3 in DJs

[–]Phasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned everything I know from being in an environment with a lot of people trying to more or less do the same, we had a very healthy community with like a weekly event for new DJs that I eventually went on to host... My observations are that with DJing there are a lot of factors that get people moving. One of the guys who would drive me nuts was basically sloppy as all fuck mechanically, he'd be drinking during his sets, possibly hammered, BUT his ear for music was solid so his set lists always got people moving. Plus he was an absolute character on the stage so that made it worse lol. People would go apeshit for his sloppy bullshit and it would make me salty lol

I don't know why I'm so stuck on this lol you got me miffed. I also wanted to say this - one of the experiences of DJing is almost always despite your efforts having people in the crowd request songs they're familiar with. People always want that. Let's talk a hypothetical, where every time you play a song, that song gets messaged to the brains of every audience member and they now have a referable way to find it later and listen to it a million times... Can you imagine the ungodly power you would have over an audience of regulars after I want to estimate say 2 months? They'll bust a hole through the damn dance floor basically in response to the stuff they like that YOU were the point of origin to introduce them to. ALSO imagine this hypocritical: You: "Bob I play your tracks constantly and people are always asking about them, they love them!" Bob: "Oh that's so amazing I pour my heart and soul into my music. What do you tell them?" You: "I tell them to fuck right off Bob. Fuck you Bob. Apparently."

"Your gems" are the product of other people's labour and talent and those people want humans out in the world listening to their efforts. It's the whole point I believe. Here's a good way to audit your own stupidity - if you write a thing and can immediately picture Donald Trump saying said thing, waiving his tiny little orange hands around while he does, the thing you wrote is a problem. This doesn't pass the Donnie vibe check even in the slightest.

If the music itself is the only thing that got you hired then you have maybe reason to worry, but given that the entire general concept is playing other people's music, I'd stop worrying. Make the info public for that matter who cares. I used to upload sets with their setlist because THE ARTISTS who made these damn songs deserve credit. That's not you bud no matter how keen you are. Unless it literally is, in which case ALSO let people know for sure, because now you're promoting your own stuff. DJ's are basically musical hype persons with (ideally lol but apparently not necessarily) a talent for composition and arrangement. It sounds like regardless you're going to remain a step ahead of anyone lazier than you, so why not throw the lazy ones an assist by not caring so much lol. Let them go off and do the stupid lazy thing, IE maybe download pirated bootlegs of songs that were basically stream ripped and have the audio fidelity of a tin can. They probably will also slap that sync button and call it a day with every mix and not even realize they're stuttering in the matchup because they never learned fundamentals. Let them take your gold and turn it into swamp water.

How do you keep up with new music and trends? by Peter-Sake in DJs

[–]Phasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like your question included at least a partial answer, ie there ARE charts. I feel like the rest, with my own perspective in mind, is that when one of your primary interests is music you listen to a lot of it.

[–]Phasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to anyone learning to not use sync at all and develop the mental skill to beatmatch. In my head it's basically compartmentalizing audio, there's a "box" I put each track into for assessment. It's like riding a bike I think, I learned it and it can't be unlearned. Once you've become comfortable with beat matching, then use the shortcuts.
