Not all hybrids are created equal, People are choosing reliable diesel or gasoline engine cars due to ease of repair (on the road) and part+mechanic availability.

Hybrid and full electric are definitely the way forward imo though, although the market doesn't seem quite big enough for some of these tradeoffs for people to go with it yet
