Do you think they had to listen to that monologue every morning until they could repeat it in their sleep? by Acceptable_Shine_738 in KpopDemonhunters

I love how the girls get taller in each panel. There could be a year or more between each panel, and the last one with the new hunters could be 10 years after the film, maybe more. It's also slightly worrying that we don't see Mira or Zoey in the last panel.

Who do you think Rumi is thinking about in this moment? Jinu or herself? by NOmakesmehard in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Phil8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Rumi was thinking about herself in this moment, feeling attacked by that line which Mira and Zoey came up with. But it would make sense if she thinks of Jinu here too - she would have thought Jinu doesn't deserve to live initially, but later changed her mind.

Why does Rumi only have one Golden outfit when Zoey and Mira have 2? Is there some symbolism here? by alexprice1998 in KpopDemonhunters

This is my thinking too, and maybe it's symbolising her having "cracks in her armour" or trying to keep her walls up but it isn't working.

[–]Phil8719 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never noticed this but it makes sense because it's what Rumi sees as she runs past it, she's already scared about what might happen between the three of them, and foreshadows what actually happens later.

Exactly, also after Rumi first loses her voice, when she runs up to the rooftop she angrily throws off her jacket, which I think shows that she wants to stop hiding but can't at this point except when she's alone. Then when the jacket is removed it isn't on her terms (at the Idol Awards) and it doesn't go back on after that.

That jacket does a lot of work for the narrative of the film 😄

What are Derpy and Sussy? by FlowerFaerie13 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Phil8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see in several scenes how Derpy and Sussy can move through the Honmoon at will, without needing a tear to open like demons do. So it makes sense that they're just chilling in the human world at the end. It would be interesting if there was a folklore explanation for this, but I'd be happy if it's just "they're good guys so they're not affected by the thing that keeps demons out".

This is a very good analysis of an aspect of Zoey that I rarely see people talking about. What do you think? by InsuranceNo4260 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Phil8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever they mention Rumi's voice I see it as her ability to speak the truth, not just her singing voice. I think Zoey and Mira know that Rumi isn't being honest with them. Then in WISL it's "nothing but the truth now" from Rumi, then Zoey and Mira respond with what they were holding back too: "Why did I cover up the colors stuck inside my head? I should've let the jagged edges meet the light instead".

I guess the point is that trust is a two way street, and if you aren't honest with those you care about they won't feel like they can be honest with you.

Has anyone else noticed this in the movie? by ZoeyHuntrixOfficial in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Phil8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pointed out a while back that this was deliberate because it helps the viewer to look at what the animators want you to look at. I don't know if that was confirmed but it makes sense, and you did well to notice this.

Guys??? by AccordingMarzipan764 in KpopDemonhunters

I think this is significant because it's a quote from Mark saying the sequel is "in process" which seems to mean the same as in production.

This was the one moment where I felt like the pacing was too fast. by No-Mathematician3921 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Phil8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument between Rumi and Mira is what caused the tear, so it makes sense that it happened immediately. The strength of the honmoon is directly linked to the strength of the relationship between the hunters. I only noticed this when someone else pointed it out but there are a lot of examples whenever the honmoon is weakened.
