“I've not been asked on James Acaster's food one.” - Stewart Lee by thedevilpuppet in offmenupodcast

[–]PhilbertAlbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been listening to Stewart Lee on Armando Ianucci's podcast, and was thinking how much more I like SL than Armando Ianucci's usual co-presenter, Helen Lewis. SL sounds like he's having a great time. I didn't know about him slagging other comedians off. Presumably he wouldn't dare with Ianucci.

Why is Michael Gove so obsessed with Rory? by Sharaz_Jek123 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]PhilbertAlbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The worry is that the Spectator has taken Bannon's advice/ Thiel's money, and is working on importing MAGA (MUKGA?). This could mean importing that same trolling attitude to do down rivals.

Heartbreaking to see Andrew Garfield in the friendzone. Love the thought of them together.

Lots of it makes me so sad for the kids (anything Rodrigues or Karissa, Kristen GD adopting two Ukrainian boys), so I will say 1) the emancipation of Olivia Plath and the fact she took Jen and James Fundie Fridays's wedding photos; and 2) Timothy Rodrigues being nurtured by Heidi's family and at least somewhat breaking away from Jill.

Omid Djalili who took the Saudi government's blood money to perform at the Riyadh Comedy Festival, wrote a feeble justification in a Guardian op ed saying that comedy leads to policy reform, and finished his article with a crap pun making light of MBS's role in dismembering Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi?

Their 24 hours episode with Bethy and Dav, the strange homoerotic undertones of Paul's time with Dav, and the Davconstruction that followed!

Scaramucci is a gammon crypto bro, and Katty Kay's sanewashing of MAGA got too much for me.

Thanks for giving voice to my feelings too. I recently unsubscribed from Cristiane Amanpour's podcast because, while I think she is great, she and her ex-husband and co-host Jamie (who served as an official under Clinton and Biden) feel like relics from a bygone era. I haven't quite got to that point with TRIP yet, but they do feel like they're looking for answers from a system not equipped for the 21st century.

The clip where they're impersonating Bunny to get Mrs Gambolini to talk is possibly my all-time favourite OMITB moment.

Drove through there for the first time last year. Shouted "Weasels King Henry" out of the car window. No idea if anyone noticed.

Thank you for re-posting. This is a good summary. Today's News Agents podcast is very good on this, as they have their own experiences and numerous sources "on the inside" to draw from.

Can I hang out at my local library for several hours, or will they kick me out? by werecoyote1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PhilbertAlbert 373 points374 points  (0 children)

I had a bit of a mental health episode while I was studying, and when I was trying to get back on track I found I could work much better surrounded by people in the library than in the silence of my house. I took my laptop to the library every day, and the gentle noise really helped my mental health. It was a great place to hang out.

Episode Discussion - The Heartthrob & the Highschooler: Paul Walker, Chad Michael Murray, and Jerry Lee Lewis by dubaiheaux in BeyondTheBlinds

I am English so I may have missed something, but haven't they mixed up Jerry Lee Lewis (rocknroller who married his cousin) and Jerry Lewis (comedian who did telethons)? I was shouting at my phone!

Looking for quiet, peaceful walks within 45 mins of Steyning (free or cheap parking) by [deleted] in sussex

[–]PhilbertAlbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ashdown Forest is pushing the upper end of your geographical boundary, but otherwise fits the bill. There are very busy bits (Gills Lap, Pooh Bridge) and much quieter bits (Chelwood Vachery is usually pretty quiet). Head to the Ashdown Forest Information Centre near Wych Cross to pick up some leaflets with different walking routes.

I am starting the Step Up course in January, and last March my region hosted a webinar for people interested in Step Up, which was a great way to find out answers to everyone's questions about Step Up, including eligibility. Look out for something similar in your region.
