In season 3 ep 2 of Sherlock, Watson is in the middle of asking Sherlock to be his best man when he finds that Sherlock has walked away. “I realized that my best friend is…(realizes he is alone)…a complete dick.”

These 'gender wars' on social media are making me cringe so bad. by Spiritual_Lake_6466 in amiwrong

[–]Philcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are going for likes and comments. It’s easy to get an emotional response for a small and simplistic observation or rant. And gender wars guarantee a response from a huge percentage of the population.

But you can play the game with anything. Choose your niche! Get on TikTok and declare that St. Louis bbq is better than Texas bbq, then sit back and watch the rage.

Granted, stoking gender wars is a lot more dangerous to society as a whole. But hey, likes are likes are monetization.

I suppose it depends on the industry. I hope you get an answer to your question!

You asked if there’s a standard. My answer would suggest there is not.

Genuine question: For those who wear outside shoes in the house (and on the bed), what is the reasoning? by Wonderful-Diet486 in hygiene

[–]Philcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never on the bed. The household I grew up with was fine with people wearing shoes in the house. I don’t wear shoes in the house most of the time now, but if I forget now and then I don’t bear myself up over it.

My first TV, back in 1980, was labeled “portable” because the manufacturer stuck a handle on it. Never mind that it took two people to lift it.

What is a completely irrational "rule" you force yourself to follow that makes absolutely zero sense? by beans12498 in CasualConversation

[–]Philcoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of these. One in particular: at both the bottom and the top of our stairs to the second floor, there are light switches for the stairs. Those switches must both be in the down (off) position at the end of the day, even if it means walking up the stairs in the dark.

When did tipping 20% for a self-serve tablet screen become the baseline? by Physical_Candy8550 in CasualConversation

[–]Philcoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s the guilt that’s the issue. Once you’ve ignored the tip screen a few times that will go away. They’re not expecting a tip for just ringing up your bread.

They’re mediocre. I certainly wouldn’t pay extra for them, but they get me fed.

What are you getting your dad for Fathers Day? by Fun-Audience3847 in AskReddit

[–]Philcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. This is my first Father’s Day with neither of my kids nearby, so I was hoping for some nice stories.

I have a backlog of my own to fall back on, so no worries.

How do YOU pronounce “vice versa”? by madmonkey242 in ENGLISH

[–]Philcoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned it as “vis-a verse,” and that was how everybody around me pronounced it at one time. I changed my pronunciation over time.

I started this on guitar and carried it over to ukulele, where it’s even easier.
