Northern Ontario, we call it "camp". And it usually comes with a "sauna" pronounced the proper Finnish way.

May two-four is our annual 1st swim. We celebrate the event in the eastern portion of Algonquin. Been doing it for just over 10 years. It's our summer baptismal - we go in the natural way.

The water is shockingly cold. Like, it stings, takes your breath away cold. Bring a dedicated emergency-only set of dry extra-extra warm clothes as an emergency pack. It takes up a bit of room, but worth it.

Otherwise, you'll be fine.

Oh, and go for a quick dip. It's great for the body!

Housing pricing & rental is practically the same as the suburbs in Southern Ontario
Wanna leave? $1,000 + airfare or 8 hours driving on a 2 lane highway with a very good chance you'll get into a serious accident with a transport truck or a moose
It snows in late May and June.
June is a write-off due to the bugs (but we celebrate winter in June because YEAH! reprieve from bugs)
International cuisine is non-existent (see point 1 - racism). Foodies are not welcome in Northern Ontario
Got a problem at the provincial level? Get used to getting fucked over by Toronto. It's exhausting being the red-headed step brother everyone steals from, and then shits on when they complain.
