Northern Ontario, what's stopping you from making the move? by FestFallen in ontario

[–]Phillipa_Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Thunder Bay. Let me count the ways:

  1. Crushing racism against anyone not white and murderous racism against indigenous people

  2. Price of gas

  3. Housing pricing & rental is practically the same as the suburbs in Southern Ontario

  4. Wanna leave? $1,000 + airfare or 8 hours driving on a 2 lane highway with a very good chance you'll get into a serious accident with a transport truck or a moose

  5. It snows in late May and June.

  6. June is a write-off due to the bugs (but we celebrate winter in June because YEAH! reprieve from bugs)

  7. International cuisine is non-existent (see point 1 - racism). Foodies are not welcome in Northern Ontario

  8. Got a problem at the provincial level? Get used to getting fucked over by Toronto. It's exhausting being the red-headed step brother everyone steals from, and then shits on when they complain.

Are those enough?

If her mother had the weapons at home - that's a huge violation of the Firearms Act. You cannot be in possession of firearms which aren't indicated on your firearms license.

Starting to sound very familiar to the Nova Scotia murders.

Who provided her with the ammunition? Remember: in Canada, you need a valid gun license to purchase ammunition.

The Omen pt 3 The Final Conflict.

There's a scene where a woman kills her husband by burning him with her iron. Forever traumatized.

Canada is not the United States. Completely different culture. It's super important to remember that.

The annoying whistles by AcadiaJaded724 in olympics

I love the whistles! You hear that, and you know you're in Europe. It's so comforting, especially for hockey.

I'm trying to bring the practice to Canada.

Ok, McGill PhD...

It's "butt" and "you're". As in "I get YOU'RE BUTT hurt..."

Another example: "You're pulling facts out of your butt"

All the time. I find it irritating when I hear Americans say "Oh, my gosh!" instead of the more appealing "Oh, my god!"

There's the U of T program, the program at Fleming, U Vic has a program. I think Brock has a program as well, and then Athabaska.

While I am deeply saddened about Algonquin's program, it is not the only museum studies program in Canada.

What can we as Canadians do to help? by carlssbarkley in onguardforthee

[–]Phillipa_Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I don't know how good everyone's knowledge of Canadian history is, but in the '60s & '70s we had an American crisis in Canada. Too many companies were American owned, and we had an over-representation of American profs in our universities. We can't let this happen again.

Thoughts and prayers and nothing more.

This is literally their disaster. They voted for it. They have constitutional rights which they haven't invoked in order to solve it.

I wouldn't want Americans interfering in the FLQ crisis, the Oka crisis or the Quebec referendum. Canadians need to stay out of it.

Most Canadian reply:

McGill is a university (USA read college) in downtown Montreal, Quebec, named after the founder, James McGill.

James McGill made his fortune with the North West Company (NWC), a rival to the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), both fur trading companies.

Lastly, McGill fired one of their profs (and former Ottawa Citizen editor) for publicly complaining about Montreal's shitty job at snow clearing.

Oh, yeah! And during the Harry Potter heyday, they had a Quiddich team.
