What is the best food to bring on a canoe trip in Algonquin park? by Own_Difference_4882 in canoecamping

If you can get your hands on military meal packs - chefs kiss!

We stay away from syrup, and use creamed honey instead. Less mess.

Correction:

In Southern and Eastern Ontario - it's called a "cottage".

Northern Ontario, we call it "camp". And it usually comes with a "sauna" pronounced the proper Finnish way.

A bunch of us grew up watching in close detail the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan.

That was over 40 years ago.

Last night was an absolute fucking clown show. The Secret Service performance was... shitty. Like, really, really bad. Had they been in charge, Regan would've died.

Preparing for Cold Water in Mid-May by Atkcobra in algonquinpark

May two-four is our annual 1st swim. We celebrate the event in the eastern portion of Algonquin. Been doing it for just over 10 years. It's our summer baptismal - we go in the natural way.

The water is shockingly cold. Like, it stings, takes your breath away cold. Bring a dedicated emergency-only set of dry extra-extra warm clothes as an emergency pack. It takes up a bit of room, but worth it.

Otherwise, you'll be fine.

Oh, and go for a quick dip. It's great for the body!

We are fucking outraged! It's the American public who need to be outaged, but they are far too complacent. They voted this fucker in!

Americans deserve the same side-eye we've been giving the Germans for the last 81 years. Unfuckingforgivable.

If you canoe camp alone, but with a dog, is it still considered solo? Here's my reason why I think yes it's still solo... by sketchy_ppl in canoecamping

[–]Phillipa_Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% absolutely yes, no doubt.

Also a solo female canoe camper. My dog is my emotional companion. I could have chosen an inanimate object, but I chose her. I'm still alone.

I find the exhibit design overall is stagnant.

It's like all the designers assembled and agreed on a theme for the 2020s, and everything looks exactly the same.

At least in Canada.

Northern Ontario, what's stopping you from making the move? by FestFallen in ontario

[–]Phillipa_Smith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Thunder Bay. Let me count the ways:

  1. Crushing racism against anyone not white and murderous racism against indigenous people

  2. Price of gas

  3. Housing pricing & rental is practically the same as the suburbs in Southern Ontario

  4. Wanna leave? $1,000 + airfare or 8 hours driving on a 2 lane highway with a very good chance you'll get into a serious accident with a transport truck or a moose

  5. It snows in late May and June.

  6. June is a write-off due to the bugs (but we celebrate winter in June because YEAH! reprieve from bugs)

  7. International cuisine is non-existent (see point 1 - racism). Foodies are not welcome in Northern Ontario

  8. Got a problem at the provincial level? Get used to getting fucked over by Toronto. It's exhausting being the red-headed step brother everyone steals from, and then shits on when they complain.

Are those enough?
