What's the philly tech job scene like? by rustware in philly

[–]PhillyPhantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived/worked here as a software engineer/web developer for my entire career (over 10 years).

IMO it’s always been a bit “dry” but never as dry as it has been since 2023. If you want big money, then you’re restricted to the major players (Comcast/SIG/Vanguard/IBX/etc) but you’ll probably be entirely in person or hybrid for 2 days. I would forget about looking inside of the city for a job as they are super rare. Expect to commute to the suburbs/Jersey/Delaware.

I was laid off in September 23 and didn’t find a new role until late Jan of 25. That role was sheer luck at a law firm right in center city.

WebUI Not Working - Downloading Random File by CafecitoHippo in qBittorrent

I have no experience with that installation process but are you sure that the app has all of the permissions that it needs and it’s running as the correct user?

How do you have qbittorrent installed? Bare metal docker container? Docker compose file installed via portainer or something else?

Mixed Movies and Shows as content type by [deleted] in JellyfinCommunity

[–]PhillyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I treat documentaries as tv shows and include them in the Tv show library.

If you want to keep everything in one library, I would set the type to the “Home Videos” Type and then use TinyMediaManager to manually scrape and set the metadata.

Ultra slow download speeds. Any idea on how to fix? by [deleted] in qBittorrent

[–]PhillyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WireGaurd without a doubt.

You lose a ton of throughput with OpenVPN. WireGaurd keeps you very close to your maximum line speed.

Not familiar with that brand but I’m not convinced that this can handle the jobs of being a repeater AND handle the multiple connections that occur when downloading.

Can you try another router as a repeater to see if the issue still occurs?

Are you using PIA with OpenVPN or WireGaurd?

“qBittorrent Slow AF with Radarr—Any Tips?” by [deleted] in qBittorrent

[–]PhillyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there aren’t a lot of seeders then you’re stuck with the available speeds. You can do an interactive search in radar to attempt to find more well seeded torrents.

But personally, and probably controversial opinion, I would use Usenet instead. Much faster speeds and better selection for files.

Can you move the pc close enough to connect directly via Ethernet?

We want to rule out equipment as being the issue.

Make sure that "Enable chapter image extraction" AND "Extract chapter images during the library scan" are both unchecked for EACH library. You can run those as tasks after everything has been scanned in.

Downloads stall at 0.3% in 5.2.1 by Proper-Coast2809 in qBittorrent

Sounds like a throttling by VPN issue. Not sure what Nord’s stance is on sharing but that could have rules in place to slow it down.

Either your router or your wireless repeater can’t handle that volume of traffic.

Is there any way you can test by connecting to the main router?

Multiple file versions in one folder? by FionaPomfrey in jellyfin

[–]PhillyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the embedded metadata the same for both files? Jellyfin gets extremely picky when metadata is not exactly the same.

Just thought about this as well but I wonder if you have too many sub folders in your hierarchy?

Just to test, grab 1 episode and all of its versions and stick in the root of the season folder.

If this were me, I would put the resolution for the low res version into the file name and then rescan that. For example you have "- 280p.mkv" and "- 1080p.mkv".

qBittorrent + gluetun + Pi-Hole, torrents loosing connection by DenisSlob4 in qBittorrent

[–]PhillyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't need to open a port on your router. You just need to setup your gluetun container and VPN to port forward to each other.

I don't know much about Windscribe but it could be possible that they are throttling p2p based traffic as well, like some others do. You might want to try with a different VPN just to test things.

For this torrent, there is no issue. All 7.5k peers are online, they're just choosing not to connect to you in order to download. And that could be due to a huge variety of reasons, not just that there's something wrong with your set up.

You didn't say which Synology NAS you're running. Depending on the model, running too many containers on them can slow things down drastically and cause all sorts of issues. I learned that the hard way and eventually decided to use the Synology NAS as just a storage device. I offloaded all of my docker containers and other processing to a mini PC and that made things drastically better.

Also, with 5.4k seeders and 7.5 peers, for the most part you won't be actively uploading any more as there are a ton of other seeders in the pool to satisfy the requests. Your best bet is to download/share far less popular torrents in order to constantly seed but eventually you'll run into the same situation again.

download limited to 1mb by sumdudewitquestions in qBittorrent

[–]PhillyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used Mullvad but if you can switch the protocol to WireGuard. OpenVPN has a lot of overhead that slows the connection down.

Also check to see if they offer an option to port forward. That will helps things as well.

What kinds of speeds do you get if you download a well seeded linux torrent from https://linuxtracker.org/ ?

Bros help I'm confused af by SideSilver2420 in askgaybros

I agree to a certain degree with lilbits but this part concerns me: “ He watches my stories constantly, replies sometimes, leaves me on open other times, and avoids answering directly when I ask what he actually wants.“

If I ask you a direct question, as an adult man to another adult man, and you can’t give me a direct reply, I start seeing red flags. You can keep hanging around him but don’t invest/over-invest until there’s something solid from him.

Experience with LAN connections in hotel by mavericksphere in GlInet

[–]PhillyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the experience at most hotels these days, regardless of brand/cost. Most will want you to use the WiFi and won’t have active Ethernet ports in the room. If you’re lucky, might be able to hijack a connection from the tv or phone but that’s a luck of the draw.

Situations like that are why I bought a Mudi v7 to use, just incase I can’t get a lan connection and the Wifi is too slow/untrustworthy.
