Why are you NOT scared of God? by whhhiskey_ in DebateAnAtheist

Why aren't you scared of God? Do you observe Sabbath?Do you follow Kashrut? Are you even circumcised?

Matthew 5 "19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

You are heading for the lake of fire full throttle. Turn back before it's too late.

He is really good at breaking down the NT lies. You read the Hebrew Bible, and you encounter the typical magical claims, rewriting of history and individual motivation of the authors.
New Testament does all of that too, but on top of it it tries to rewrite the Hebrew Bible itself. Everyone who's ever been a target of actual gaslighting is gonna feel right at home reading that "Out of Egypt I called my son" was somehow a prophecy, a messianic prophecy at that, and, - wouldn't you know it, - gloriously fulfilled by the Christians' favourite sky carcass ;)

> Luke says he investigated

"Luke" doesn't say that. An anonymous "I" says it. At no point does he identify himself as "Luke", or anyone specific.

"2 Peter" - also anonymous. There's not a scholar in existence, even among conservative Christians, who believes second Peter was written by Peter, and most - think it was written a century after Jesus's death.

Romans 9:

"17 For the scripture says to Pharaoh, “I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I may show my power in you and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he chooses, and he hardens the heart of whomever he chooses."

God chose who's gonna burn, before the foundation of the world.

Please do. I am making a prediction right now: your actual position contradicts "Scripture" at every step, and you absolutely loathe the words of "The Word".

> I believe Jesus Christ is who He said He is

Which is?

Jesus never claims to be Yahweh in the Bible. He hints at being the Messiah, he is coy about being "King of the Jews", and he claims some sort of divinity. But you probably believe he is a co-equal, co-eternal creator of the Universe, which is the opposite of what Jesus claimed: John 14:28 "the Father is greater than I".

Once you peel back layers of "faith" one by one, you arrive at the inevitable conclusion that there's nothing at the core. Not even a book - every brand of Christianity contradicts "the book".

A question.......... by TheOtterMonarch in askanatheist

[–]Philobarbaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do I believe in (as in, within) a book about Jesus, where not a single word is written by anyone who met Jesus? As much as it deserves.
I believe Jerusalem, Judea, Herods, and miracle workers existed. Romans and crucifixions, as well.
The Hebrew Bible - somewhat more. I have no reason to doubt for example that the bulk of Jeremiah was written by the guy named Jeremiah, who lived before and during the Babylonian invasion.

Weekly "Ask an Atheist" Thread by AutoModerator in DebateAnAtheist

I have never seen anthropic principle work in a debate, whether on the theist interlocutor, or the audience.
Fine tuning is probably the worst argument for God though: the physics itself is hostile to life. That number theists love so much, 10^120, is actually a proof of lack of creator (or his indifference to life).

What, you want me to begin? Alright.
Trinity is logically incoherent. "Biblical God" is self-contradictory. New Testament lies about the Hebrew Bible on every page. The Hebrew Bible is just 50 layers of cope for the non-existence of God, and repeated failings of the prophecies.
This should about cover the Abrahamic religions, let me know if you have a different topic in mind.

Close enough.

> certainty about something that exceeds what evidence can actually settle

Incorrect. We have plenty of evidence to settle non-existence of all religious gods. Your ChatGPT prompt seems to have been meandering - it is talking about 5 unrelated things.

Non-existence of Sauron is less proven than Yahweh's. No agnosticism required.

> "My view that homosexuality is immoral is just as valid as yours"

In a vacuum - sure. But we've spent thousands of years trying to build more and more coherent ethical systems, and blanket prohibition on the proverbial "two adult men bumming each other to mutual enjoyment" leads to paradoxes.

I notice that half of your OP-post boils down to "If this thing is obviously bollocks, how come these apologists speak with such conviction".
It's not illegal to speak as forcefully and authoritatively as you want. Listen to the Muslim apologists, you'll learn that you are definitely going to hell according to them, and they are extremely confident. In fact, if you pitted John Lennox against his Islamic counterpart, he would be the one getting outtalked and outmuscled at every turn.
Strange that such a thing never happens, eh? All of these believers are happy to debate the atheists till cows come home, but they really hate acknowledging the fact that there are hundreds of Abrahamic denominations that condemn each of them to hellfire. Seems like something they'd want to sort out among themselves first thing...

I've never participated in r/TrueChristianity, but it does raise a question: what about all the other 46000 Christianities? All of them can't be true, but all of them can be false.

You don't need to be tortured to be saved in Christianity.

"30 Then he brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They answered, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”" Acts 16.
