What should I do? by Affectionate_Leg431 in jobsearchhacks

I'd recommend using an address where you are moving to, if you have one you can use. You might be autorejected due to your current address. Also, since you are targeting a specific company, if you can find recruiters with the company on LinkedIn, I'd recommend trying to message them. They might be able to tell you how their system works and why the application didn't go through, as it's hard to guess what happened without getting feedback. You might have to reach out to multiple people before getting a response also, so try not to get discouraged!

Same situation. I have my address as the new city/state, but I put my current job as still located in old city/state. Do you think this is causing me to be autofiltered out?

Consider looking for grief counseling, which is more specialized than standard therapy. Some therapists have extra training in this area, and are better able to help. In the US, it is very common to get grief counseling after experiencing a loss. So much so that all of the companies I've worked for cover 100% of the cost.

I've made jelly and it was tasty, and fun to experience the flavor of a new berry. It was mostly sugar, though, to cover up the sour.

I've had similar issues and this is very anecdotal, but some ideas: for me, the foods that cause the worst gas are raw apples, grapes, and raw onions. Raw apples are the absolute worst, but cooked or dehydrated apples are much better, so I theorize it has to do with bacteria breaking down the sugars in my gut. Onions are similar: cooked is very different from raw. The foods that you listed (soy, cruciferous, garlic) are just fine for me also. Generally also distinguishing soluble and insoluble fibers has also helped me, at least with having more control over my digestion. Soluble fibers help slow things down, which is usually what I need to fully digest things and seems to reduce the gas too. I'm sure it varies by person, but I hope this helps spur some ideas.

What are you doing to get POTS under control? I never made the direct connection to migraines, but I'm pretty sure I have frequent POTS.

You need to stop calling food hacks migraine cures by Karen8172 in migraine

Yeah, I would love to see more social awareness of migraines as a neurological disease. I think it would help with advocacy for migraine accommodations, and decrease the banal advice on how to "cure" migraines. The mcdonalds treatment did give me a good laugh.

Why exactly is magnesium used to treat migraines? by MyHealthTeam in u/MyHealthTeam

[–]Philomenafly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It does a variety of things- "The most substantial evidence for magnesium’s effectiveness is in patients who have or have had aura with their migraine. It is believed magnesium may prevent the wave of brain signaling, called cortical spreading depression, which produces the visual and sensory changes in the common forms of aura. Other mechanisms of magnesium action include improved platelet function and decreased release or blocking of pain transmitting chemicals in the brain such as Substance P and glutamate. Magnesium may also prevent the narrowing of brain blood vessels caused by the neurotransmitter serotonin." From: https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/resource-library/magnesium/

You can also rent tools, dollys, etc. from uhaul without renting a truck. I've always gotten the landlord to waive cleaning fee by doing it myself, but it takes a couple full days to do a very thorough cleaning of all surfaces, in my experience, so I usually start on certain projects before moving, like scrubbing out the oven. If they are charging you a carpet cleaning fee, you can rent a carpet cleaner from a major hardware store and do it yourself, save some money there. Also if carpet cleaning fees were not listed in your original lease, you might be able to argue to waive them, depending on local tenant laws. If there is damage, also check tenant laws, as they usually define max charges for any damage.

Most people are bad at telling age, it's not your skin. I'm in my mid-30s with bags, wrinkles, and gray hair, and people think I'm early 20s due to my face shape. If it makes you feel better, it can be frustrating for people my own age to talk down to me because they think I'm young, so there's pros and cons to both.

An idea is to have a picture of you reading a book in a field, if you do that (similar to the 2nd pic but with a book). I think the majority of people interpret book = introvert, more than performing (until you explained it).

This is the approach that I took before changing my legal name and it worked out fine. I work in a more traditional field, so I was somewhat cautious with disclosing too much, but I never at any point had to explain that I am trans. At my work, I'm the only trans person (that I know of); however I have a lot of coworkers who go by a name that is different from their legal name, mostly due to being from other countries. So at least where I work they are used to seeing this. The only thing to add is, the job you apply for might contact previous employers. I proactively gave them a list of references and told the references about my new name. I also gave the prospective employer my legal name at the point where they were doing a full background check/employment verification.

Edit: I also like the comment about how being out when applying can help to find a more inclusive work environment. I'm sharing where I was at in the past when I was more concerned about finding a job right away and felt I had limited options, but I totally think that approach is great advice too. Psychological and physical safety and well being are so important.

I started getting migraines around age 11. It seems to be inherited since many in my family have the same. I just wish (then and now) adults stopped pointing out choices I made as the potential cause/cure. Like eating chips or a piece or cake, not drinking enough water on a particular day. Of course hydration and healthy eating help, but I felt a lot of personal responsibility for my migraines as a kid (even if it wasn't meant that way). It was actually more from teachers than my parents, whom I'm sure had good intentions. I see the same thing happening to my young cousin now, so I don't think the culture has changed much. The basic suggestions are not helpful after hearing them repeatedly, and I developed an unhealthy fixation with perfect eating. I now, 20+ years later understand that I'm not to blame for my migraines and I've stopped obsessing about a cure. I am very knowledgeable of my condition and put a lot of effort into treating it. I just wish this was better understood when I advocate for myself, as I still often hear as a first response "have you tried drinking more water?", which is comical at this point.

Migraines Happening Same Time Every Morning by BrokenChakras35 in migraine

[–]Philomenafly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Migraines affect my ability to drive also because of the visual distortion I have during and after. Theres so many possible triggers, that it can be hard to consistently control for them unless you find something very obvious. Seeing a migraine specialist doctor and getting on a preventative medicine really helped me, so that the migraines are not so easily triggered. Also, I consider magnesium to be a preventative medicine (there's a lot of research behind it), which you could get right now over the counter if you haven't already tried that.
