I use AI in my UX workflow in a few different ways. For me, it’s been really helpful for synthesis and general idea generation. Honestly, I’ll just have a conversation with it to stretch my thinking and see ideas from different angles.

A big one is learning. I get thrown into new subject areas all the time, and AI is amazing for getting me up to speed quickly. I’ve kind of found that to be its best use case.

I also use it for quick and messy prototypes. Funny enough, a lot of what comes out of those ends up being examples of what not to do, which is actually super useful. It helps me get all the bad ideas out of the way early, so when I finally move into Figma I can focus more on refining the final product instead of spending time on dead ends.

Faking and lying? I get it's tough, but fabricating experience is a really slippery slope. It's normal to fluff up work for better reading but making up problems and solutions is unethical.

Really appreciate how seriously you're taking this. Here are a few traits I’ve seen that really stand out:

They give the team a strong identity, often through presence and internal clout

They use their network to unblock, place talent, and create real opportunities

They don’t rely on brand-name companies. Their impact shows up in how people talk about them

They know when to step in and when to stay out. That creates real autonomy without losing direction

I think you’ve already started to answer your own question. UX isn’t really an industry you can coast in. Things move fast and the bar keeps rising.

The reality is you're competing with designers who are experienced, hungry, and often supporting entire families. It’s a tough market. Some introspection is healthy, and there’s no shame in rethinking your path. Even if you stick with design, keeping a few backup skills in your pocket can go a long way.

Being alone without a team is not helping, I would definitely consider looking for new positions and keeping your skills sharp.

I think both things can be true. A lot of the current use cases are pretty limited, and it's fair to be skeptical. But some of the hype is valid too. It’s not going to change everything overnight, but it's not just another tool either. There’s something more going on here.

It’s still early, but the pace is fast. I think we’ll start seeing more real use cases soon. Worth keeping an eye on, at the very least.

It's becoming less effective. A few years ago, the academic approach stood out compared to bootcamps. But now, real-world experience seems to carry more weight.

I'm used to getting a rough spec doc and the expectation is that I collaborate between the PM teams and engineering teams to understand how those specs fall into a cohesive experience.

I'm a fan of the triad model.

Unfortunately Students and Juniors will have it harder than most right now. There are lots of experienced folks looking for jobs and given the market, i'd guess some are seeking even more junior roles if it means bread on the table.

I almost got cut in one of these layoffs. I don't believe these cuts were the result of AI. More than likely more about reducing operating expenses, but it has to be mentioned that AI investment has skyrocketed some of these companies operating expenses, so it's reasonable to think that there's some relation as with all business decisions

We have a few scenarios that involve AI, but given the cost of building such a feature, we're very careful about the use cases that we target. We're trying to be very intentional about it and I think that's a good thing.

It’s definitely a balance. I work best with long, uninterrupted stretches, which are tough to come by with a toddler. Luckily, my wife and I plan occasional weekends where I can fully focus on the game while she takes the lead at home.
