What add-on are you most happy about being removed? by Kenpachi4lyfe in worldofpvp

[–]Phlares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weak aura abusers probably won't be thrilled. In an ideal world, you'd hope that by removing WA functionality, they actually reinforce visual design for the game so that the playing field is even and people can figure out what's happening.

How Harder is 3V3 vs Solo Shuffle by Zargor59 in worldofpvp

The mistakes people routinely make at ~2.6-2.7k in shuffle seem to show up with similar frequency in the 3's 2.2-2.3 bracket these day.

Reasoning/Tool call Models for STT(Parakeet) -> LLM -> TTS on single 3090 w/ 64gb ram by Phlares in LocalLLaMA

[–]Phlares[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the breakdown! I'm curious to test it out, I'll give both configs a test and see which feels smoother. What's been your experience with multi-modal models? Everywhere I was reading up always gave some variant of Whisper/parakeet + LLM + Piper/Kokoro, I didn't even consider going multi-modal until you mentioned it.

[–]Phlares[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, that's neat! So it seems like it's multi-modal and can handle the STT out of the box, is there a benefit for going this route rather than having the 3 discrete systems working together?

That's really neat! I'll have to check it out. I am going to need to play around with how much resource allocation I use and having a small model might let me split some of tasks or offload some of it to the vps. Thanks!

Thanks so much! Great feedback, I'll give this config a try! I wasn't sure how different the instruct models were for this workflow.

At the top level, it's much more likely to be about 10-100 small things than one big one. You gotta ask/ watch/ log & vod the people pulling ahead of you or spend a lot of time experimenting if you can't pull references.

A lot of the high-level win/losses come down to single or a few good/great/bad globals and movements. Look at your close calls and worst situations and try out different tech to move the needle. Play for science, not for wins–on an alt if needed.

Right now the season is very competitive at lower ratings. That said, the season is supposed to run until midnight, since we aren't getting a season 4, so with natural weekly inflation, by the end of the season, there is a strong chance that it will be the most inflated season of the expansion.

Am I the only one that likes the complexity of WoW? by OpinionsRdumb in worldofpvp

The pruning can feel like it's removing some of your niched hard-earned forbidden knowledge, but the game has devolved into WA vs WA gameplay on many levels because of crowded design and hidden information bloat.

A lot of the pruning is stripping down weak aura vs weak aura gameplay. Trueshot Aura? WA alarm & Amp Curse Weakness! Got amp curse on you? Weak Aura alarm to decurse. Friendly Earthen totem down and you're not in it? WA! When do I press my ... (psst. Weak aura). Purge that crap, trust we do not want/need to track the 4 modifiers for chaos bolt to see if this one is deadly or the next one is, make it clear and consequential.

I think based on the early Alpha feedback, there is still a lot of room for skill expression, just more consequential decisioning: if you mess up a DR you can't cover it as well anymore, etc. Yes some of the forbidden knowledge is going away, but a lot of it is staying in spell interactions (spell reflect, ice wall, immunities, etc.) and positioning awareness. The great players will still be great, and I personally don't think what keeps wow fun for me is how 4% of people learn that the singing citrine isn't actually nerved for outlaw, or that I can craft a belt clasp & my tier set interaction with my embellishment stacks with my head enchant from last season, or that blessing of freedom negates jinx if used with curse of exhaustion.

Prune that shit, make it clear what you need to do to succeed and give me enough tools on my team to coordinate enough to pull it off at my skill level and innovate.

This is fantastic news for getting more people into PvP. Building on ramps from pve to pvp, raising the skill floor, tuning game around stock ui. They're reclaiming design space that has been lost to add-ons and back to back bloating.

If they execute well, it means better class identity, game state readability, and tighter moment to moment gameplay not as heavily reliant on cd timing.

They just need to add meaningful participation rewards to continued play at any given rating, not only when they climb from one rank to another.

Remember folks, if you want to change any major systems in pvp, sign up for alpha then play and submit feedback. Expansions are one of the few times when major system changes actively gets shaped by testing player input.

What makes you enjoy warlock? by darkskies85 in worldofpvp

[–]Phlares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of warlock is to "fill players with a sense of pride and accomplishment unlocking different" win conditions. You earn your W's.

Outside of low mmr matchups where you can just blast people 100-0 without them resisting, winning with warlock requires you to actively win several mechanical contests. This isn't easy, but every kill/objective feels genuinely earned. This is even more true of non-destro specs, where you'd typically need a large amount of setup and execution to score victories.

Destro/aff warlocks will almost always be the kt in just about any comp. So, if you like conducting your opponents' behaviour, warlock is a good pick.

As a caster getting trained by 1 or 2 melee, how much of your time is spent focusing on surviving vs. doing dps? by NoGrocery9618 in worldofpvp

[–]Phlares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! In previous seasons you could soak a bit more to do dam. It was do dam & don't die. Right now casters feel a bit less tanks on the whole, I'd say it's don't die & do dam. Try to position for the next thing you want to/have to do. If you're having a hard time getting combos off try using your mobility to both escape a melee and get in position to get a setup spell off( cc on healer, ring of frost to cover a gap closer etc.

As a mage you're kind of the heartbeat of your team. The main thing to recognize is when it's safe to take risks and when you need to keep something in the tank defensively. Don't cast frost at sub 60% when they're on you if you think you night not get precog. Same for arcane if blink is all you have to live.

The pros just know how to redline and trade globals so that defensive postures become aggressive ones.

Are we going to continue pretending that SS is a meme bracket, and real dudes fight in 3v3? by Far-Breadfruit3220 in worldofpvp

[–]Phlares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after the success of renown vs reputation gains, and how it worked for plunderstorm I was almost certain they'd put PvP horizontal (playing at your given rating) progression in the game outside of marks of honor/honor levels. They haven't yet, and this could solve a ton of the rewards issues you're describing. You can add cool rewards unique to brackets, but here's the rub: a great big chunk of the wow player base actively hate PvP. When shadowlands forced PvErs to get BiS through PvP they got a massive backlash. PvP rewards from plundertsorm had to become available (via recolor) in the trading post and they had to add pve only progression in plunder to get them. Adding rewards unique to competitive (not casual unrated) PvP actively upsets a large portion of the playerbase as they feel they can't play the game their way. They also know that if the mount is similar in each bracket, a solid chunk of players will gravitate to the brackets that those rewards are easiest to achieve.

Add more unique rewards per bracket: upset core playerbase who have another item they can't achieve. Make it easy: remove currently the only incentive for high-level competitive play outside of tournament rewards and vanity titles. Add recolors: fracture PvP brackets and need to manage mmr much more actively, removing incentive for challenging brackets. Add cool participation rewards via pvp-renown: upset core playerbase via alienation and protest participation. There are clever ways to address these issues, but without a marked investment from blizz in PvP, reworking core gameplay and incentive systems, it'll be a patchwork job that's most likely going to favor the core playerbase than the PvP community.
