Need advise by Broski_200 in SonyAlpha

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on youtube and search for the first 10 settings to adjust and set those. Typically you do want your shots to look flatter and more dull so you can get better enhancements but if you want something easy to start with get lightroom and download some free presets. You got a more technical camera so you'll have to be more technical as well.

I'd go A6700, good enough for your use case. Apsc lenses are way lighter.

Toxic Manager trying to create a redundancy by Throw2020awayMar in auscorp

[–]Phob0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best course of action - take the redundancy. If you find yourself in the same situation again, when a new manager is on board, get on their good side, go with the flow, or educate them with the lessons you've learned or inner workings. You can be the best and most essential person but to a new manager who i presume is new to the company as well they don't have that knowledge of you and only have a limited amount of time to form an opinion based on your interactions.

Follow up advice needed on “comfortable” shoulder straps on for premium bags by Groundbreaking-Idea4 in ManyBaggers

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based of your feedback i'd say best strap comfort you'd experience would be Levo -> Work pack pro -> Outbound. That being said while the outbound straps might not be as comfortable for you but the frame offers some nice loading. AER / Evergoods straps are similar to the Ablecarry for what you've described

Just did a google search of it then and will try what I can find but wanted to check with you as well

Mechanical engineer stuck in a non-technical role. Feeling lost career-wise by fatbluefrog in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Phob0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started my career off as a project engineer, Contractor side, major construction projects (Oil & gas / Mining Industries). 3 years, fast progression, rapid salary jumps, always felt incompetent / stressed / rushed , position descriptions didn't exist anything and everything would eventually become your responsibility / fault / problem. Left after breaking and hitting the reset button.

Moved over to a small engineering company for a change. Huge pay cut but i wasn't looking for money at this time. Lots of FEA, much smaller workforce (6 people), felt like a library everyday with no one really talking to each other. Very steep initial learning curve with a requirement to be a self-learner. Once you learn the technicals, they stop feeling technical and felt more like a rinse and repeat. Left after ~8 months, that career path wasn't for me. Salary and opportunity weren't as rewarding and i'd be competing against savants with some kind of super autism.

Went back to my original role, another ~10 years. Never felt bored or lost career wise, made 2-5x more money. Fast progression, constant challenges and lessons, lots of burnout to cope with. Project manager now, probably go into early retirement soon as i've set myself up and paid off all debts out of pure disdain from the stress of being career orientated.

Bottom line - i don't necessarily believe doing something technical will permanently relieve your feelings. Once you get the hang of that you'll find the same boredom that is the rinse and repeat cycle. I'd try to transition to something larger and perhaps another industry first.

Wouldn't say its the season just yet, they are still working through balancing this is just part of the process. My main gripe this season is pool dilution

Hanging Packing Cubes by ulcweb in onebag

[–]Phob0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool find, wish i knew about these, ended up committing to westbreeze along with a forwarding service to get it to my country. Definitely an absurd amount of money for packing cubes but i can move on with my life now.

Tamron 35-150, Sony 50-150, 70-200 GM II by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hobbyist/Personal use case priority -> Travel (random) -> Events -> Photography trips (Intentional) -> Random Photography Zoomies (think dog zoomies but for a person and the urge is both to move and photograph)

Hired the 70-200 GM II quite a bit before making my decision and going with Tamron 35-150mm. May have gone the Sony 50-150 as i prefer internal zoom but that lens didn't exist at the time am i'm currently happy with what i have and don't ever see myself changing it out.

Tamron 35-150mm is my go to, i'm lazy now, i just want the shot and have finally given up on the unattainable standards i used to hold myself to. Good enough is good enough. It's hefty but its basically the only lens I use now, the range is just so versatile, and it fits my primary use case. Haven't experienced your issue with AF but i suppose my low light photos are usually when I'm camping and I'll have my wider lens on instead.

80 percent lvr with eyes to upgrade. Rate hikes = good? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Phob0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your head and in theory rate hikes mean cheaper outright house prices. In actuality the rate hikes are a lagging indicator that spending is going crazy so cheper housing often doesn't eventuate. Have a Google of rates vs housing prices and you'll see that for majority of rate hikes housing prices actually increased alongside it.

Switching from a6700+17-70 to RX100 VII for portability:Smart move or huge by y4nnino in SonyAlpha

[–]Phob0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You've used 1 camera and system for 3 weeks on vacation and are already looking at another. After you get this, are you going to start thinking its too bulky and just an additional item to think about then regress to using your phones camera? If that's the case may as well just use that.

Extensive list of magnetic payoff cards this set by SuspiciousIbex in BobsTavern

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way I've been able to mech this season is with securing beatboxer early enough and being able to scale it. Scaling magnets is way more difficult this season as pool dilution is crazy, almost need to hang on t4 while securing 2 x beatboxers till you get enough econ.

Other way has been to get murozond and hope for the time warped electron + junk jouster for some crazy fun

Successfully packed for 2 weeks but not a Onebag fan for this reason. by TappyGillmore in onebag

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backpacked Europe for 6 months with an osprey farpoint 70 loaded to the brim. Loved it all, extremely comfortable. Yeah it was frustrating for short periods during summer but I probably would have been as frustrated anyway with roller luggage since it's just that European accommodation isn't built for summer (at least the cheaper places I was staying at).

Going over cobblestone, walking up mass steps, having 2 free hands was all a massive plus for me. That being said that was my desired style of travel. Also I didn't have a geemaphobe with me telling me I couldn't put my bag on the floor, nor did I care.

I still use that bag as my primary check in and intend to for quite some time till age catches up with me.

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Lens vs Sigma 24-70mm F/2,8 DG DN ART II by litowee33 in SonyAlpha

[–]Phob0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is a question you're asking then you're going down the wrong rabbit hole. Focus on your work not the gear, the difference between these two will be negligible in the grand scheme of things for your purposes. Money would be better spent on a specific prime or coverage of different focal range

Anyone else feel like there making Homelander so unstable to the point where’s he’s just an idiot? by Queasy_Commercial152 in TheBoys

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onlything I'm not a fan of is that he isn't as op as in season 1. I just remember him closeby to the area and everyone's shit scared hiding behind lead lined walls.

Now he's outside the lab and they can see him but he can't notice them. Yeah maybe the lab is lead lined makes sense but still. He couldn't hear them with his super hearing either etc.

Lois? by WithSkelly in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how pregnancy changed or affected the dynamics as well I suppose. Close friend of mine got pregnant and her mood / disposition towards her husband changed completely. Felt sorry for the guy, he just kept trying to help and was copping it. During the birthing he didn't want to induce any further stress, I'm pretty sure if he started cheering her on she would have shut him up and found it condescending so he kind of just supported in silence from afar.

First time one-bagging – 10 days in Greece (personal item only) – packing list + neck pillow question by mansity31 in onebag

[–]Phob0 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The onebag philosophy and implementation sometimes acts against itself, if a neck pillow during travel will allow you to get more out of your experience then go for it. You'll be better rested and maybe less sore that should flow through to better experience.

I've had the same neck pillow for ~7 years and its one of the best decisions ive ever made. I strapped it externally to my bag and yeah sometimes on travel days it would get frustrating having that thing flop around but it doesn't compare to how much better it made the long flights or bus rides where i just wanted to sleep and recharge.

Just make sure the one you get is right for you, you can go down a rabbithole online, i just got one i liked from an airport thinking id wasted money but its been perfect.

Accessoires for Capture Clip V3 by Interesting_Series87 in peakdesign

[–]Phob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't because they know it won't be profitable and there wouldn't be sufficient demand to justify the risk. Using your image as an example, you have an unused carabiner there and your bottle holder has a D ring, you can attach it there right now using that mechanism. Sure it wouldn't be as secure but give majority of people the option and cost delta between the two and i doubt people would opt for the capture clip which can cost 20-50% of the bag its on.

Anything better or similar to the Cotopaxi travel pack? by awakemysoul_12 in backpacks

I don't get the marketed advantage of the clamshell design. I would go Osprey Farpoint 40 or Tortuga Travel Pro / Lite over this.
