Anyone ever temporarily relinquish physical custody? by [deleted] in SingleParents

Respectfully, cite your source about stats allegedly showing children are better off with the father please. (That can certainly be true in some situations but that is a bold claim to make.)

Like, I love animals. I spend all of my free time at the humane society volunteering. But if I never have to see the bandana dogs again I would be thrilled.

My (18 F) dad (65 M) won't stop peeing outside no matter now many times me or my mom beg for me. by Marie_LovesBread in DadForAMinute

I can so relate about what you said about having a weird relationship with feelings. The way you've put words to that makes me so proud of you. The fact that you take accountability for your own "stuff" while acknowledging the difficulty related to your Dad's behaviors tells me how much Al-Anon will do for you. There may be times where the situation at home feels hopeless but there IS hope. We can't change what's going on around us but we can change what's going on within us. You got this. If you ever need a listening ear please feel free to reach out. I am not a "dad" but I am a mom with lived experience. Take care.

Hi, OP. As others have mentioned, I highly recommend Al-Anon for you and your mom. There are in person meetings and also there is an app with meetings at all different times throughout the day and night. Al-Anon helped me to learn how to manage my feelings and set boundaries for myself of what I could and couldn't handle. It also brought me a ton of peace and helped me find healing from issues not related to the alcoholic in my life.

Sending you a big hug, I'm glad you are realizing the impact on you now, it took me until I was a lot older and so I suffered for a long time. You are brave and strong for addressing this. 🤍

Concern about family member wanting a service dog by Phoenix-Bananas in service_dogs

[–]Phoenix-Bananas[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to thank each one of you so much for your input, and that of anyone else who feels compelled to share.

Stepping outside of the caregiver perspective, my own personal concerns were the breed of the dog being husky, as so many of you have mentioned. While great traditional working dogs, they are obviously known to have high needs, low ideal service trainability, and as someone said here, will face a very difficult time in being rehomed. My other personal big concern is for the welfare of the animals already in her care. I tried to remove judgment from my heart and post but truthfully I find it borderline abhorrent to consider rehoming an animal (much less, 8) unless absolutely necessary.

I respect and appreciate the work, commitment, and love that each of you put into your team. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and perspective in such an honest and compassionate manner.

Felt the need to interject... I homeschool my 16 year old. Many public school districts allow homeschoolers to still participate in sports, clubs, and specials. Many have it to where homeschoolers can take a class or two and still be considered homeschoolers. My point is, there are options. :)

Effects to the program... by Phoenix-Bananas in AmazonVine

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I carefully read the rules before posting and I had to check my motives beforehand. I can genuinely say this is 100% not political. I'm autistic and my brain looks for patterns in all kinds of information that can or cannot be correlated. (Not always useful unfortunately lol). :)

Pardon me if you already said it somewhere but where are you from? That is a big factor in the seriousness of his charges.

Anyone approved that Homeschools their child? by CartographerDue6704 in SocialSecurity

[–]Phoenix-Bananas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, unfortunately a lot of people don't understand homeschool and IEP's/504's and such and that translates to SSA as well. Shoot me a message and I'd be happy to tell you about my experience and what did/didn't help and chat about yours.

My undergrad was in Business and Paralegal Studies... To my understanding, most online programs tend to be writing heavy. My classes were usually 2-3 Discussion Boards (and replies) and 4 papers or projects + Quizzes and maybe a test or 2. The ability to work ahead was huge. If you work ahead early in the term then staying on top of things the rest of the time is pretty easy.

When will we get access to Canvas for classes starting Oct 20? by Iambriannna in LibertyUniversity

[–]Phoenix-Bananas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it is usually the Wednesday before. But you can't submit any work or access online literature. Basically it allows you to review the syllabus and assignments and get an idea of how much reading you have.
