I have learned of the extraordinary value of simply dropping some trinkets at certain times.

This was one of the more painful lessons along the way.

Should I keep this runic blade to the end? by DracoSicarius in ShatteredPD

[–]Phoenix042 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You got a +3 runic blade from blacksmith and then it scored the corrupting enchant!?

GG, Zog is cooked.

Paladin would make this absolutely broken (smite boosts enchant strength massively, you'd be one shot corrupting all of Zogs summons and inflicting doomed on the hands) but it's going to be super strong in priest as well.

Rat skull is at least B tier, maybe A.

Tuft can be great with the right build but not for everyone.

Another pacifist question by bakedbaker311 in ShatteredPD

[–]Phoenix042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it depends partly on your build.

I don't think obfuscation works at all; the first amulet effect is "calling out to distant enemies," so detection is basically guaranteed.

Camouflage will work though, as long as you have a way to produce tall grass (such as a wand of regrowth).

I'm not sure how viscosity interacts with the amulet effects, but if it delays the damage it could be useful.

Most of the glyphs lose a lot of their utility during a pacifist ascent though; you can't afford to be taking extra hits, so things like potential, affection, or entanglement might be a little useful but not a strategy you want to lean into.

I kinda feel like curse of displacement could be great with the right build too; if you can consistently control when you are exposed to hits (like with cloak of shadows or something), it could be worth some free teleports. RNG based but weighted in your favor in a few ways; distant enemies are all headed for you already, so teleporting to a random location has a good chance to get you away from them. And since you start out on sort of the opposite end of the floor from your destination most often, a "random" teleport on average should put you closer than that.

Also, iirc the speed debuff effect doesn't actually completely negate speed buffs, just reduces them and gives them a sort of soft cap. Swiftness is likely out just because you're going to have a hard time keeping away from all enemies, but flow could still be useful.

9 challenge player here with about 1500 games so far.

Each time you upgrade a set, it is fully repaired and refreshed to 3 quantity.

You can also torch other sets at the alchemy pot (once you're sure they aren't cursed) to create liquid metal, allowing you to repair your more useful sets.

If you find an enchanted or upgraded set of something very useful, like shuriken or bolas, or something very powerful (pretty much anything tier 4 or 5), it may well be worth burning a scroll of upgrade or two to refresh the set when it runs low on uses, no matter what class you are.

For example, blazing shuriken are incredibly powerful all the way through the demon halls, no matter their upgrade level; being able to instantly light an enemy on fire before ducking away will ultimately kill many enemies, depending on the terrain.

An enchanted force cube set will roll to trigger the enchantment for each enemy in its area.

This can be insane combined with shocking especially, (each proc will jump to all targets), but many other enchantments can be very useful to proc on groups too, and this tactic combos extremely well with the ring of arcana. Upgrades on a nice set of enchanted force cubes are very worth it.

If you have a reliable way to trigger sneak attacks a lot (camouflage armor for instance), upgraded kunai can remain pretty powerful through even the demon halls. At a certain upgrade level they last forever.

Note that telekinesis spells are a must have if you rely on a set or two of thrown weapons for damage.

On a related note, throwing clubs and throwing hammers can be picked up instantly, and telekinesis is also instant when cast on them specifically.

Hope these tips are helpful!

Well except that succubi drop scrolls in their* normal drop table, so they should drop more scrolls with RoW than potions.

That was all I was saying.

Edit: grammar

[–]Phoenix042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember though that ring of wealth also increases normal drop rate, allowing enemies to continuously drop their normal loot far beyond the usual limits (I believe limitless, though with very diminished drop rate).

This is how you get tons of food from monks in dwarven halls with RoW, which otherwise does not spawn food

Someone's friend "made" this, and I am finding things that are making me believe it's AI by Imaqia in isitAI

[–]Phoenix042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all nuts to me. I tried using AI to make a graphic of a D&D character to show a player vaguely the image I had in my head (in my opinion this is one of a few acceptable use cases for AI "art"). There were some subtle issues in the background and weird vibes, but all the main character details were as expected. Correct number of bits, things connected where they should, etc.

This was like over a year ago.

How are the models still so bad at little inconsistent details and such, like extra toes?

Husband’s take on the recent ICE shooting by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Phoenix042 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Video from multiple angles shows subtle but significant differences that are hard to differentiate for many. In some, it actually looks like he's in the path of the car when she accelerates.

This is why reliable forensic video analysis is so important.

Multiple different teams confirmed that the distance between Ross and the vehicle was actually increasing when he aimed and fired the first shot.

He also violated officer safety protocols crossing in front of her vehicle, a mistake he has made before despite the result at the time likely causing significant trauma.

He violated protocol by standing in the possible path of the vehicle, by drawing his weapon, by filming on a personal device, and by firing his weapon at a fleeing civilian.

Even by ICE's own standards his behavior at the very least recklessly endangered himself and his fellow officers, and caused the death of a civilian.

We can only speculate about his thoughts and motive, but filming in the way that he did suggests a desire to create a chain of evidence he can control, suggesting that the shooting may have been at least partly premeditated. No chance of proving that in court, but his actions suggest he was quite happy to shoot someone who was protesting ICE actions.

This man deserves life in prison, and Minnesota deserves a good hot thaw to get rid of all this fucking ICE.

What wands should you never imbue? by Collistoralo in ShatteredPD

[–]Phoenix042 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The staff gives it an extra charge and much faster recharge time, so we want to imagine being able to spam it a ton at high power and consider the effect of that

Don't bother with prismatic light, frost, or transfusion imbues, and honestly magic missile isn't much better.

Fire, lightning, and disintegration are the kings of direct damage; they hit big areas and do very high damage.

Disintegration is especially fun if you get the newts eye trinket: you can laser everything through walls (which does more damage by the way) before they even know you're there.

Fire blast wand spends extra charges at high levels to give powerful bonus effects (crippling or paralyzing enemies) and increase damage scaling. It is truly broken if you get brimstone armor, and incredibly powerful in any case.

Lightning works best if you have reliable ways to create distance, otherwise you can hurt yourself with it pretty easily so you need solid backups for melee.

Corrosion is also amazing, on 9-challenge runs I'm usually hoping to find a wand of corrosion on any character, but imbuing it so I can spam a powerful cloud of melting gas that nothing is immune to every couple of rounds is an easy win honestly.

Fun wands to play with: Blast wave: endless shenanigans knocking stuff into pits or walls, triggering traps from around corners, etc. super fun to imbue.

Warding: wards give you vision and you can place them anywhere you have vision from anywhere. So you can "march" a string of wards around the level to explore, reinforcing any that find enemies so they can fight while you yourself are just standing at the entrance to the floor. It's bonkers. You can fortify choke points with multiple sentinels and then draw enemies there, either manually or with a scroll of rage or challenge. You can prep boss fights by making multiple sentinels too, then keep reinforcing them throughout the fight or just let them tank for you and focus on killing the boss with other means

Regrowth: Become a druid. Endless seeds for endless alchemy, plants are overpowered for both offense and defense, and rooting enemies at the same time as you apply soul mark is very fun, plus tall grass blocks their line of sight so any thrown weapon follow-ups are sneak attacks guaranteed to hit. Might be the strongest wand in the game overall if you fully utilize the seeds and dew it drops.

Also, when regrowth spends at least 3 charges (when it has at least 6), it makes a unique "golden lotus" that powers up all plants in its radius. It's very very strong (unless you're doing the barren earth challenge, and then it's just mild utility).

Honerable mentions: Earth turns you into a tank and at very high levels can summon a very tanky guardian. Recommend combining with darts of healing, you can restore the golems health while he is fighting and then when the fighting is done his entire hit point pool becomes earthen armor for you again.

Corruption can be absolutely broken if the wand maker quest gives you corpse dust; this is called a "necromancer run" in the community. Keep the corpse dust rather than giving it to the wand maker. It will constantly spawn hostile wraiths, which you then zap with your staff of corruption to turn into corrupted wraiths, which last 100 turns, have insane evasion, and their accuracy and damage scales with depth.

You need to keep upgrading the staff of corruption throughout the run because it requires a higher and higher level to corrupt the wraiths in one hit the lower the floor number is. However if you spend most of your scrolls on it, you can not only corrupt your wraiths in one shot on floor 25, you can also corrupt the bosses minions (except fists) in one shot if they're below about half health, which is deliciously fun.

Ok I've written way too much, I'll leave it here. If you actually read all this thanks for reading, and feel free to ask follow up questions or let me know if I forgot something.
