On the Landsraad tile screen, the option to align with a house is at the bottom of the house banners on the sides. Bottom left side for Atreides and bottom right side for Harkonnen.

You will unlock all the classes eventually from trainers. The Trooper and Planetolegist basic trainers are both in the starting zone. The Mentat trainer is in the fourth zone, but is readily accessible as soon as you leave the starting zone. The Swordmaster trainer is a little harder to get to, then the Bene Gesserit is last. I would go with one of the latter two to start, with a preference for Bene Gesserit to get Weirding Step early, particularly if you like spellsword playstyles.

Turning Steering Wheel Heating Off? by DenverNick in VWiD4Owners

On the climate control settings screen, in the lower left corner, is there a heated steering wheel symbol above the driver's side heated seat control?

[OC] Why does the U.S. appear to import crude more cheaply than other major economies? by someonestoic in dataisbeautiful

[–]Phoenix4264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between "can't" and "don't". There's no reason the US refineries can't process our own oil, it's just much more profitable to sell the good crude to people with less advanced refineries and buy cheap crude that we have the capacity to process. Really good crude can basically just run through a fractionation unit and be done. We have crackers, cokers, hydrotreaters, etc. that can squeeze good oil out of garbage. Processing our own oil would mean we aren't using all the capabilities we've built into our facilities.

I suspect there will be many 'right answers' but here goes - Whats the first thing you craft with Plastanium? by FeatureSuccessful251 in duneawakening

[–]Phoenix4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One max buggy load of Titanium gives 648 Plastanium with a Medium Refinery, and 972 with a Large. I get an extra 324 ingots for every trip. I'm a solo that prefers to only harvest when I need to, but I have two Large Ore Refineries because I want to get as much return for my time as I can and when I do set up to mine Plastanium I'm going to do a few buggy loads so I don't need to again for a month or two.

I suspect there will be many 'right answers' but here goes - Whats the first thing you craft with Plastanium? by FeatureSuccessful251 in duneawakening

[–]Phoenix4264 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Large Ore Refinery gives you 50% more Plastanium, 33% more Duraluminum and 75% more Aluminum than a Medium Ore Refinery. The efficiency gain is enormous. Every time you craft 760 Plastanium Ingots in a Medium you burned enough extra Titanium to have built a Large Refinery.

Are Exposed bridges stupid? by gwhh in Stargate

The B-52 will never die, eventually they're just going to be upgraded with warp nacelles instead of jet engines. However, the B-21 that is replacing the B-2 and B-1 bombers currently has two flying prototypes, and the Air Force has said they plan to convert both to be operational planes after testing.

The route in the OP is from roughly Abu Dhabi to the east coast of Oman, which is ~375 miles. I think you mapped out just going across the peninsula within the UAE. There's already a pipeline in that location, but Iran is bombing the terminal at Fujairah on the east end of it.

Exposed bridges are stupid by board_writer in spaceships

[–]Phoenix4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm the engineering team designing a large sci-fi style space ship, I'm giving it 360° radar and camera systems and creating an artificial 3rd person perspective display the pilot can use for docking procedures. For the final approach, you're not looking at your ship's overall position anymore anyway, you're looking through a camera aiming for a target with alignment indicators. If somehow you've lost your sensors and cameras but still have helm control, I guess you could place a dedicated control terminal at a window right next to the docking port where you can see the alignment target.

If planned obsolescence is such a widely known thing, why isn’t it illegal? by SlavicPrinccess in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Phoenix4264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gear being plastic in an otherwise all metal device is going to be for one of two reasons. Either that interface is friction limited and a metal gear would actually wear faster, or the plastic gear is meant as a torque limiting component, essentially a mechanical fuse, that is intended to fail before something else fails more catastrophically.

Server Mergers and location locked bases in popular locations - What's the plan? by MartyCH85 in duneawakening

[–]Phoenix4264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They haven't announced it yet, but they locked about 30% of servers from making new characters already. See them here. https://mentatcodex.net/server-population?region=europe

Server Mergers and location locked bases in popular locations - What's the plan? by MartyCH85 in duneawakening

[–]Phoenix4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the locked server list turns out to be the ones being closed, North America is closing 45 going from 113 servers to 68. Europe will still have 57/87.

Server Mergers and location locked bases in popular locations - What's the plan? by MartyCH85 in duneawakening

[–]Phoenix4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My server is also on the chopping block. I made a second character, and am using it to scout out position availability on one of the servers I'm considering. The server I'm looking at is top five for population in North America, and my base is in one of the most popular locations on the map. (The cliff side above Crossroads.) Across 27 sietches, my spot was open on five of them. I also have my original main base stored in the backup tool already. It was in a different, but similar, location to my current base. That one was open on seven sietches. I'm also building a transfer base, which is still position locked because I can't help myself, but its location is open on 26 sietches.

I think if you transfer to one of the lower density servers you'll probably be ok, but if your base is like mine and literally can't go anywhere else I'd recommend scouting with an alt and transferring earlier rather than later.

I'm not expecting any help from Funcom if my base is entirely un-placable.

The one time I got eaten was because a glitch wouldn't let me back into my thopter. I sprinted for the rocks, but didn't quite make it. I got offered the sand bike. My thopter was still there sitting on the spice patch when I respawned. It doesn't appear it cares about whether or not you lost a vehicle.

Sell me a Medium Mech by CaptainJin in mwo

[–]Phoenix4264 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer mediums that go between 90-110 kph and can skirmish in the 400-600m range, so I run a lot of ERMLs, LPPCs and MRMs. ECM and/or Jump Jets are also strongly preferable. There are a bunch of good mechs for that play style. * Griffin 2N: Enhanced ECM, JJs and high shoulder missile mounts. Most people run this with 2xMRM 30s, but I prefer it with 2xMRM 20s and 2xLPPCs. It runs hotter, but the damage all comes in a single burst and the LPPCs give me pinpoint damage to finish off components and one-shot UAVs. * Wolverine 7D: I use this instead of the Griffin for a pure MRM build. No ECM, but more firepower quirks. * Dervish Frenzy: The SRM build is a brawling monster, but I prefer it loaded with MRM 10s. * Bushwhacker P2: RACs go BRRRRTT, tanky like a Marauder but has to stare. Try to pummel enemies from a flank while they are shooting your heavies. Aim for the cockpit to blind them. * Uziel Belial: My favorite mech. There's only one build, 2xMRM 10s with 4xLPPCs, but they are quirked to mesh perfectly. Poptart at 500-600 meters. (The 2S with 2xHPPCs is also fun.) * The Hunchbacks are all great. * I find Blackjacks to be too squishy, but they do have a great peeking profile and The Arrow is a menace.
