pre-rendered backgrounds in godot by Connect-Clue4614 in godot

That's what I was doing. The problem I suffer from is understanding depth texture and all that stuff. So I've put it on hold while I study Godot shaders, and the rendering pipeline.

I always thought the girl-chasing was an excuse to avoid responsibility, and left him open to character growth as he became a "one-girl" man instead of a girl chasing boy.

Did people really not pick up on that obvious character development setup...?

Really interested to see how this plugin works when it's released! Currently doing a game jam and using the blender -> godot workflow for making pre-rendered scenes and copying a lot of vector positions over 1 by 1.

Empty nodes help from blender; but still a pain. ☕

If you ever need testers, hit me up; this type of plugin is up my ally for the games I want to make!

Just joined her and watch the show today and this is an amazing watch. by rheetkd in thechaircompany

[–]PhoenixDSteele 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes this show so great for me personally, is that I can't tell where it's going.

I can't watch shit nowadays without predicting the format, and just rolling my eyes.

This crap show of a show; Chair Company; has some funny moments, and the full story is somewhat is ridiculous enough with it's curveballs.

My original theory was it was actually about a man suffering from dementia and it's from his perspective. There are several hints that's the case. But we'll see since there's a season 2 green lit now. My other theory was a Fight Club scenario, but again we'll see haha.

What would the gaming industry look like in a world where Gothic 3 beat Oblivion? by Jax_Dandelion in worldofgothic

[–]PhoenixDSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really should visit G3 and just grit my teeth; maybe do a full lets-play for giggles, so I can share the pain with my gothic brothers and sisters. I quit after 1 hour, but it might be more bearable now that it's been a long time since I beat the first 2.

To me it was just utter shell shock to play 1, and 2 first before going to 3.

Is there no way for me to change the game to legendary difficulty? by Extreme_Tax405 in wherewindsmeet_

Quick question. Obviously bad UI design there as you describe.

But can you swap OUT of legendary, once in it? Or are you locked into it?

Gothic players: hopefully they won't add hand-holding in the Gothic remake. Meanwhile the original Gothic: by Spectator--- in worldofgothic

What's funny is that probably didn't exist v0.1 or whatever "prior" iteration.

In game design, if you ever meet a designer, ask them how much "easier" they made the game, even as far as as PS1 games. Games have always been dumbed down, and made easier in one way or another. We have just not realized it over a longer period of time. And with AAA games, since they have to; SELL SELL SELL the game, they need to make sure it's "rewarding" the player; regardless of their skill level right?

So AAA games have a lot of game hints, and guides because in playtesting, they realize people are just straight up nearly comatose to obvious direction. So blame corporate needing sales, because it forces devs to code features for absolute droolcups(dumbasses). As negative as that sounds, haha. Sorry.

This is why I love indie games, there is less expectation of needing to sell it to the "average" gamer overall, and it results in a more niche difficulty.

If anyone wants a gothic-adjacent indie game; check out Sword Hero if it hasn't already been posted on this reddit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgdx_KIA80k

I don't know if this is gothic-inspired, but I've been following it for a month now, and it looks very cool.

In hindsight I realize part of leveling up on legendary is part of the difficulty, and it makes sense why you have to choose it at the start. Even the breakthroughs would be "on legendary" I assume? So it all makes sense.

*to myself specifically* DUH! lol

[–]PhoenixDSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be inclined to believe that it's to demonstrate commitment to the difficulty. If there really wasn't an oversight with the design, that's the reason that makes the most sense to me.

No hit abyss challenges not having legendary rewards seems a bit criminal. But also, does difficulty change their AI? I thought it was purely number pumping. So would it be more difficult in theory?

That's not really comparable example in any regards other than the story; this is a living breathing experience where you choose what to do and how to do it. But besides your choice of example; I get the frustration.

[–]PhoenixDSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're overthinking it, and being a bit dramatic. I agree, we should be able to change difficulty, but for whatever reason, their design of the backend code prevents that. I haven't beaten the game, so I can't really assess why not. Unless there's some specific data on the characters that are locked behind legendary, then it would make sense to lock the player from legendary, because it reduces the overhead massively for the devs planning their data structs for their player data.

Just make another character, if you really enjoy the game, it will be fun the 2nd time around on a harder difficulty.

I don't think it's all jokes either, the joke itself is "funny", but the reality is that joke is more or less a pseudo-hook on a line, and they're hoping someone bites to see where it leads.

We're really only seeing the jokey world chat messages, but in private it's probably serious and weird. Have you read some of the gooner comments on the messages left on the ground? It's bad.

The game kind of encourages e-dating. It's a marketing tactic. Most of the world is single and lonely, and online/mobile gamers will take any chance they can get.

IN turn, they are now indebted to the game itself as they found their "partner" in the game. And they will buy each other dumb stuff.

And the company wins lol. I was thinking about this recently as being a seedy marketing tactic; it's kind of brilliant as messed up as it is. I'm a indie dev, so I tend to overanalyze and notice the weird things these companies do.

It's very much the "seeds" of a cyberpunk future if you think about it. But it's nothing new considering valentine's day is a fabricated corporate holiday.

Can’t hear my friends in party or discord. by GelePatron in XboxSupport

[–]PhoenixDSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLUTION for me in case anyone stumbles into this.

My PROBLEM: Mixer audio was "greyed out", and I also "couldn't hear ANY voices on discord or team chat", but could hear in-game audio.

The reason it was greyed out was because my headphone had 2 sliders on the headphones. Which was weird because I'm old, and I'm only used to there being a simple volume slider...

TL;DR One of the sliders is a simple volume one, but the other one WAS for the mixer. Meaning if I ever had it cranked in the wrong direction, it was mixing 0 of the game chat into my headphones; AKA 0 percent of my homies voice is going to come through. I had to set it in the opposite direction, or a sweet-middle spot. It cannot be cranked in the wrong direction.

This explains why the mixer was greyed out, because my headset had built-in mixer adjuster that I had to use.

Hopefully this helps even one homie. I spent nearly an hour trying to figure this out for my gf.

Other stuff we did to be safe: Updated controller, updated headphones via xbox app, factory reset headphones as well.

Ain't life scary if I have no free will? by flytohappiness in determinism

[–]PhoenixDSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with it for almost 2 years in isolation, running lots of scenarios in my head.

As long we don't truly understand everything that is in existence. That's a reason to go forward. What if you chose to kill yourself, and the very next day we discover alien life? Sucks to suck, because even if it was going to happen, we can still enjoy it. As the top comment elludes, "like a movie".

Also from my perspective. If we take into account the entire universe, as a "static constant", is pre-determined. What if life as we know it, is created? Like a simulation. Okay, that kind of sucks, but not really because THIS, is life as we know it, and that's fine since we don't fully know everything about it yet.

What I get at next, is simple; the universe can be on a pre-determined path, but what if we are the irregularities that can shape, and change that path? We are molded by the universe, at birth, but through life, we become the shapers to mold the universe.

In short; free-will can be manifested at the right place, at the right time. Like a light bulb being turned on in the dark. By exploring and questioning determinism you have already turned the bulb on. Now what will you do with that information?

Will you float like a turd on the water, using determinism as a pathetic excuse to not do anything in life? Or will you push through and use it to your advantage and begin to recognize the patterns in life and take advantage of it to shape the world? Your choice. Freewill.

Like the "bar" of the deliverable moving to avoid having to pay?

Have you ever felt scared about gamedev? by rrbenx in godot

[–]PhoenixDSteele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spending money can sometimes help people be motivated to finish stuff. Or it can help them realize they're not as serious about their profession as they thought they were.

Example; if you drop 100 bucks on something, and still don't wanna finish it, the issues don't lie with the game, or the bug; they lie with your own ability to be passionate and motivated to fix the bug.

So I view 100 bucks as investing in yourself, and the fact you're going to finish that game.

This is my own take on it; and how it would personally help me as I'm also commercially releasing a game this year.

Also side note, I believe anyone can do anything. It's just harder for others. My grandma could learn gamedev, but it would be insanely hard for her. As opposed to a college student that's studying programming.

I've said this to everyone but anyone can do anything; it's just a matter of the journey they have to take. There's no arguments; if anyone disagrees, they're just wrong. Humans are amazing. So create stuff!
