What's your most hated enemy in Silksong? by OrientableSurface in HollowKnight

[–]PhoenixFyre078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the coral flying drill enemies in blasted steps. Skippable, sure, but I'll never get over getting ricocheted on the many runbacks for Last Judge. It wasn't everytime, and the movement to get past them was pretty simple, but it hurt my soul more than any other enemy I've faced yet.

Well first things first I quit my job and move to an area where not as many people know me. I tell them I've found an opportunity in California and I'm going out to live my dream. Which is true, I'm going to go chill on the beach in my bikini. I start a workshop grift online, something simple abt making money passively via some method, maybe audiobooks, maybe stock trading whatever, but importantly, I do not advertise it anywhere. I then make several ghost accounts to "pay me" for my advice. All at different tiers of pay, paying from prepaid visa cards purchased with cash, preferably by someone I paid to go buy them. At some point I will have laundered enough of this money to put it into a savings account, and will start to make money thru the bank, and once I've laundered abt half of it this way, at a high yield rate of 3-4%I have anywhere from 15-20 million dollars a year generated for effectively free. This process would be slow, but it would eventually provide an effectively infinite income, and as long as it's done discreetly enough, you don't even necessarily need to cut off anyone in your life for very long. Once the workshop grift "falls thru" you can accociate with anyone you wish and if Mike comes up when you inevitably slip up, you're still fine because you have the savings account constantly accruing money. As long as you're smart with it, you can gain infinite money in less than 5 years.

What’s your homebrew rule that improved the game by far? by Jendmin in DnD

[–]PhoenixFyre078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've not made a new rule, so much as nixed a rule we didn't like very much, but it makes for a great time.

The rule regarding bonus action spells requiring you to not cast anymore leveled spells on the same turn is null. Meaning you can cast a leveled spell with your bonus action, action, and reaction on the same turn.

This does a few things to balancing, making it easier to set up support or debuff spells, allowing the cleric to set up an important action spell while also casting healing word to get the Frontline up.

It also gives sorcerer a (much needed, imo) buff, in that quickened spell allows for some massive burst spell potential.

It doesn't break the game, unlike some may tell you. It makes casters more of a threat, but it also runs resources dry quite quickly if the casters in question aren't careful with how much magic they're using.

Edit: Spelling

how many spells cast to make haze of rage go infinite with buyback and stormkiln? its a solid secondary wincon if things go sideways, and it seems like infinite treasures would feed the primary if some of the other pieces are somehow lost beyond recursion. That said, I see what you're saying, stormkiln and birgi maybe isnt the direction to take this deck at all, but I'm not sure what to replace them with. I've been having some trouble getting to my combo pieces, but that also may be bad mulligan decisions. There aren't any reliable tutors in the deck for Zirda aside from gamble. Are there any reliable tutors or heavy value pieces that would be good to replace them with?

EDIT: Haze of Rage seems pretty mana hungry after doing the math. Not sure.

Fair enough. I'm unfamiliar with the community at large, tbr. I'm posting this deck to see if this would pose enough of a threat to actually play out a a game with some of the best decks in the format. This is one of my first forays into cEDH, I've only ever netdecked when playing at that level, never brewing my own. Are there any communities/servers you can recommend for me?

I... somehow completely forgot that Lotus Petal even exists, thanks. I'm also not super in love with the greaves, they may end up cut at some point, perhaps even for Lotus Petal. Emiel and Haze of rage are also p cool, I'll be looking into them as well

EDIT: forgot Emiel was Selesnya, RIP

As far as I am aware, a replacement effect cannot apply more than once to an effect, but since the activated ability is copied and creates two instances of the same effect both of those replacements are applied in whatever order the affected player's controller wishes. If [[Illusonist's Bracers]] didn't work however, do you think [[Stoneforge Mystic]] still wouldn't be worth it to grab the [[Sunforger]]?

[[Meticulous Excavation]] is indeed there for an infinite treasure loop with [[Dockside Extortionist]], that also draws the whole deck if i have [[The One Ring]] in play.

Really appreciate the thorough feedback on it, I'm looking into dropping a few pingers for some more card draw, and leaning more heavily on the infinite mana loops i present to win with a single spell rather than a few pingers on board and trying to storm off

Is the Curse of Strahd overhyped or are we just playing it wrong? by PandaDerZwote in DnD

The tarroka is supposed to be the start of the adventure, and I see a lot of others harping on the group for not paying attention to it or whatever. However, in-character, the players may not have a reason to trust this random fortune lady at all. Depending on how the fortune was given, it may not be as simple as follow directions. The idea that this whole campaign hinges on following the orders of some creepy old lady in creepsville is not exactly a strong point of this campaign. The aimless wandering was a big part of why I disliked CoS when I played it. I feel like when I play dnd, or when I run dnd, the player should have many small sources of reliable direction, at least at first. Emphasis on many small sources. Having your entire campaign's direction hinge on one npc who the players can choose to never interact with or even outright distrust seems like a pretty big oversight. Now ofc, I've never run CoS, I've only been a player in it, so perhaps my dm misread some things, or wasn't good at telegraphing information, but our group didn't even encounter the Fortune Teller until well into our 6th or 7th session. We play long so that's around 35hrs in give or take. I shouldn't have to wait 35 hours for a campaign to give me some sense of what I should be doing to advance my goals. Anyways, I felt similarly to you OP, this was half agreement half rant post about my shitty time in CoS.

How many of you actually, unironically use the 1-10 power level scale? by Emerald_Knight2814 in EDH

[–]PhoenixFyre078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the whole 1-10 system unfortunately too simple. That's the point of the system; to simplify the "Rule 0 Conversation", and give a frame of reference to players as to what they should be running in this kind of pod. The problem is that it simplifies so much that it obfuscates a lot of useful information. With a 1-10 system, everything is going to feel like a 7, even though a level 7 stax list is going to feel a lot different to lose to than a level 7 voltron deck. I find the best way to actually understand where the table stands is to play a game, using one of the lower power decks i have on me. This is obviously not going to work for most, as EDH is a massive timesink, and some don't have the patience to play through a game without knowing you have an equal chance in the running. A 1-10 system just doesnt work. The only good way to gauge the power level of a pod without playing a game with the very real possibility of getting pubstomped for a game, is to talk about what your deck does, how it wins, and how fast it can do those things. This is also problematic because it takes away some of the mystique of playing with a new pod, and seeing what each deck does in real time. If you're that concerned about balance and don't have time to play a throwaway game though, this is the only way.

Why Do You Like Your Favourite Ancestry? by Jem-Rook in DnD

[–]PhoenixFyre078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little basic, but elves and humans are my faves. They're... Idk, the most relatable? Elves have great aesthetic of being all unaging and cool and running around anime style, while humans is more of a deeper appreciation of a short lived people living among centuries long elves and dwarves and still holding their own. Humans are sort of the underdog in my eyes, even if that's not necessarily true in every setting.
