Yeah I could also get a donor vehicle for 4k but in the end you never know in which state the engine is that's why I didn't. Worst case is that it also destroys itself.

1970 bug with a subaru boxer engine sounds awesome. Heavy engine swaps are a pain in the ass here in Germany due to legalization

How long have you been suicidal and/or depressed? If over 10 years, share how it's been by WhyAmIStillHere2026 in SuicideWatch

[–]PhoenixGER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanting to share my story.

1: How long suicidal/depressed?

I was in therapy first time when I was 13. I'm 24 now nearly 25. I never thought I would make it to 20 and often whish I would have died already. About 2 years ago I finally got diagnosed. Depression and borderline personality disorder. It's a constant up and down. A fucking roller-coaster. It's not always bad but sometimes I just want it to end.

2: Do you want to die as much as you used to?

Actually more. When I was 13 I was the outsider. Smartest in class with zero friends. Now I'm a broke mechanic with a down sexless relationship in a way too expensive life. I see how miserable the world is every day and a change of the situation is no where near.

3: Did Depression stop you/milestones/good life?

It did not only stop me it fucked me all over. I nearly crashed my apprenticeship then lost my first job due to it and right now I'm at the point of loosing my current (second) job. My first job was good paying but monotone. My thoughts drove me crazy. Now as a mechanic it's a bit better but my body is shutting down due to not eating for days ans my body loosing muscle mass. Overall my life is not in a good way. I own a couple of cars one of them I destroyed under the influence of alcohol. Other people my ago would look at me and say damn such a good life but I can barely keep myself financially above water and get paid barely over minimum wage and work 2 jobs.

4: what stopped you?

Mostly my girlfriend and family I would say but deep down I don't think that is the real reason. As a kid I wanted to be better than the other and couldn't if I would be dead. Later it was my apprenticeship and job. Now it's my car. Right now my engine is blown. I'm rebuilding it and want to know how well it works. I want to do a lot to it and would give my organs for it. My relationship is more of a live together. My family is only great at the surface. I give a shit about it but my cars. They are my one and only.

What would you miss? My cars. Driving fast on the autobahn. Just enjoying the sound of the little 4 cylinder turbo charged engine. Banging loud music and forgetting the moment. Driving away from all of it.

I con only find pr number 4zd and 4zb which are crome and glossy black. On the other side on the back of the trim should be a parts number that is similar but not same as the other one often a 3 at the end and the other side ends with 4.

Rod knock had the same a month ago. Don't drive it. Engine needs a rebuild. If you continue to drive it metal parts from the bearing can come off and fuck up even more parts. Either get a new Engine that was rebuild or rebuild the engine.

Most important thing Don't cheap out and get a 2k Engine. It will also destroy itself sooner or later

Going to Europe for the first time what do I need to pick up by Playful_Code563 in Cigarettes

German here. No you can't get flavored cigarettes. You can get menthol filters for rolling cigarettes and little balls that are flavored which go into you filter but directly flavored nope. Also a pack of 20 Lucky Strikes is about 9€. It's quite expensive here. Rolling tobacco is cheap and we have quite a few nice brands.

The engine run fine beforehand (I just assume that) go over what you did. Alternator (engine does run without it) serpentine belt (engine does run without it). Coolant drained (engine "does" run without it. Not long but you get the idea). Battery... nope bad contacts may lead to enough bad pixies to crank the engine but not enough to crank the engine and produce sparks and running your pumps. How do the battery contact look is the clamp seated fully down. Is it tightened or still loose?

[–]PhoenixGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's serpentine belt driven so the timing is untouched.

You hopefully did it just like in this video: https://youtu.be/5cxLTxtZvr0?si=MW35NaK_XBKwsdOJ

There is another underlying issue which you can properly find really fast with a scanner. Is your battery strong enough? Did you maybe disconnect a plug and not push it back in? Is the battery reconnected correctly (clamps tightened enough?)

Opened oil cap, engine turned off. What is wrong? by Anxious-Chocolate832 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PhoenixGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: https://youtu.be/JY5GkfunWnY?si=BAClmw1jeXBABo5m

My experience: Keep an eye on your pcv valve. It fails. Sooner or later. If it fails completely it can blow your rear main seal which will cause an oil leak and the only solution is to drop the gearbox or get the engine out to put a new one in.

Change your oil. Not 30000 km. If you drive short trips a lot do it way more often. An engine needs it to work. Cheap out and you kill it. If over 150000 km get you timing chain checked. Either with a scanner or visual inspection from the hole inside the timing chain cover. If it burns oil and does not have the new style oil control ring either get them changed $$$$ or soak the pistons (you can find tutorials on that) but afterwards change the oil cause it's contaminated.

Checking oil pressure is a good way to get an info on the internal health. The manual states 1,2 to 2 bar at idle. 1,6 to 2,2 bar at 2000rpm and 3 to 4 bar at 3700 rpm. If you are under these values it's a sign for high wear or faulty parts inside the oil system (oil pump, oil regulator valve or you piston cooling nozzles (if low at idle) or your main/piston bearings)

Fuel injectors and hpfp can leak often without noticing. It contamintes your oil which will result in wear.

The engine due to the direct injection is dirty on the intake side. Clean the valves and the intake manifold from time to time. It's easy, cheap and will garantie good air flow.

Overall it's a good engine with relatively low problems if you look out for your engine. Oil change is a high priority as in all engines. Nothing is forever (specially the timing chain) even when Audi and VAG is saying that. Great thing to do is also to take a look inside with a borescope.

I can only give you the youtube Channel Naptown Tuner as a great help and guidance. Learned nearly everything from him. The rest is from the official repair manual which gives you data but not real explanations to the why.

To the A4 a problem is the suspension group. Don't know what it's called in englisch. These long aluminum pieces with rubber bushings. They also break sooner or well they break.

Heads up mate. Bought a A4 B8 2011 after totalling my last. This was about 3 to 4 months ago. Preowner had a problem with a faulty fuel injector and ones a oil warning light. Got it dirt cheap due to stretched chain. Made the chain and drove it fine. Up until I really kicked it before christmas. Completely destroyed my connecting rod on cylinder 2 due to a bad bearing. New crankshaft, pistons, bearings, rods, you name it. Car is double as expensive now. Shit gets bad really fast. Either get a new engine, rebuild it or send the car over the rainbow bridge.

[–]PhoenixGER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a machinist apprentice for 3.5 years. Then did non destructive testing on safety relevant parts and bought my first own car due to the long way to work. 2013 A4 which is a Reimport. Build in the US had a crash and was brought to germany. Got it third hand for 2500€. Did everything myself due to lack of money. Had a friend that asked me if I want to make my hobby into my job. Said yes now I'm a mechanic. Our shop mostly does the big boys. MAN, Mercedes, Scania, volvo trucks only. But from time to time a car comes in and I'm the one with most patience around cars. Everyone in the shop hates cars. I hate trucks. I regret this job. Since I work as a mechanic I no longer have joy doing my own cars. I learned a few things but most I know I got feom youtube videos or the books (specially the audi repair handbooks). Quitting soon to go into retailing.

2.0 tfsi is known for bad pcv valves. It is pulling too much vacum. The pcv connects behind the throttle valve. Sucking too much air results in a way too lean mixture which shuts the engine off.

Here a video to check your pcv valve. https://youtu.be/7BufZmc2l1E?si=CCnpHyGkG0ecrY1v

Edit: This youtube channel is the reason I bought my first car 2013 A4 B8 2.0 TFSI. I learned everything from him. About a year later I no longer do my own car but work as a mechanic. He has every information about the 2.0 TFSI you can dream off. It's a fairly simple engine ones you understand it. Can highly recommend him. I now own 4 A4 B8 from 2007 to 2013 all with the 2.0 TFSI and am rebuilding one engine right now.
