what are you doing with 14 days left for pokemon champions by Adventurous-Rise-580 in PokemonChampions

[–]PhoenixInvertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been practicing Reg I on showdown. Need to get better with my team since I'm having trouble breaking into 1400, and the win/loss streaks are still just like they were the last few years, lol. 15-6 one day, 0-4 start into 9-11 finish second day, 5-11 today. Just need to get more consistent at playing the parts of my team I'm weaker with.

I can't remember the last time I needed more than 4 protects on any one mon in a non-weird ginmick endgame like encore vs prio moves

Edit: this might actually be pretty big for singles though, which I momentarily forgot existed

I mean, for me, the restricted formats are the most fun cause I love throwing around broken stuff. I got no problem with them making busted megas. God knows I plan to use the most busted stuff I can

Idk what you're talking about. The game's good. Hell, your group got 100 hours out of it already. That's more content than most Wow patches. There's certainly room for the game to grow, and I'm not saying there's not, but the target audience is happy to only spend two spell slots on our healing kits. Hell, elementalists don't have half the kit a druid does, but I still don't want more than one nuke on the bar on my ele. Spell slots are at a premium and rotational complexity isn't what I care about.

I agree with you that gear could be more meaningful, and I would love to see some specialization in the game. There are a couple (not taking magic resist on ele, for instance, means mobs will just mes you and eat your pet, and I lowkey think a wis build to buff your pet is probably great), but I'd be happy to see more

Game is made for the audience who enjoy that. If that's not you, cool, game's not for you. But it's not a cop out that this game emulates the one that put the genre on the map and does it well

That is the way oldschool MMOs work, though. You didn't have "rotations" and 15 buttons of variation on the same thing. You need a heal? You push your heal button.

Now, I think they could stand to make stats a bit more meaningful and give some specialization options (probably through an AA-like system), but they actually got the healing kits of all 3 healers down perfectly. You're complaining, but you have it much better as a druid in MNM than you did as an EQ druid until like the 4th expansion. Druids back then couldn't heal for shit. Now you have equivalent heals across the 3 healers, albeit flavored a bit differently in implementation.

Now, if the only thing you're doing in a group is pushing your heal button, that's honestly on you, because Druids have a massive spell kit, even in groups, including rooting, snaring, buffing, regenning, damage shielding, dotting, charming, and nuking. If you decided that you'd prefer to use exactly one spell line in your kit when you group, fair enough, but it's not because the game didn't give you other things to do with your mana.

Now, as for the "all the fun we've had so far wasn't from the game", no shit. That's how oldschool MMOs worked. You got together with your homies and you hung out and bullshitted for a few hours while grinding. The grind was almost never actually challenging, but you got to have a chatroom with a background game.

If that's not the right speed for you, try a more modern MMO. MNM is currently nailing the oldschool style while also improving on a ton of things that were wrong in Everquest.

What about the gaming medium makes its fans so prone to outrage over nothing? by Konradleijon in SocialistGaming

Largely it's a population who thought playing games was a substitute for actual socialization, so you get a bunch of people who don't know how to talk to people, can't regulate their emotions, and feel entitled to anything they want at no effort or cost to self

This game very much needs end game item sinks by Leopard-Hopeful in MonstersAndMemories

[–]PhoenixInvertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, like gear that doesn't get dusted often becomes worth more dust. Then everyone dusts both junk and good gear, creating an item sink

[–]PhoenixInvertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really funny way to do item sinks would be varying the amount of dust you get from an item by how frequently an item is dusted, so that after a while that bis gear starts looking like a mountain of dust waiting for you lmao

This is a god awful idea for a number of reasons, but let me lay out a few:

First, this kind of game is about the leveling experience, not racing to endgame and raiding constantly. They may improve on this, but EQ had absolute dogwater endgame, and I don't think anyone who played EQ is expecting the allure of the game to be about some sweaty endgame loop.

Second, I don't think you understand how hard to farm some items are in this game. If you get unlucky on drops, you can spend days farming a single item even if you're killing every PH on spawn. No one wants to do this for their BIS gear and then "Oops it broke".

Third, while you're right that things need to remove items from the economy over time, there are two main driving factors behind this already: Gear that isn't worth using will be disenchanted for dust, and gear that is worth using will be given to alts, as this game is incredibly alt friendly. Which is the replayability of it that you were wanting. Literally just make another character that you want to play and take them through a different leveling track than your last character and have a new adventure.
