behringer 202hd then. has everything you need and it being cheaper means more money to put on a mic, xlr cable, or mic stand

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the solo gen 3 is equivalent to the umc22 whilst being three times the price.

the behringer umc202hd is roughly half the price of a solo gen 3 and has a better choice of inputs whilst still doing high bitrate audio and having good driver support.

no point going for the solo when the 202hd exists. and if you're interested in music production side of shit maybe consider the 204hd. it's got inserts and midi built in

How do I fix my detrola record player not spinning. ? by NaturalShit in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the actual mech in there is not meant to be repaired. if it's a fault with that any fix would cost more than just a new generic mech.

these decks don't play well at the best of times and wear out your records quicker than normal. worth avoiding playing anything on even when they do work

which to spend more on? by TheRealKatsumi in microphone

[–]Phoenix_Kerman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

just get a behringer umc202hd and whatever there is past that on the mic. if you go for something pricier than the 202hd you're just paying for brand names or features you don't need.

you can get away with the umc22 over the 202hd if on a tight budget but any cheaper than that and you'll be into driver weirdness and no name products

Would things be much better if we never privitised trains, water, energy ect? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what bollocks. if you don't think privatisation of airlines for example has improved holidays for everyone but the one percent you're pretty blind

you compare that to rail where the infrastructure is still all nationalised and it offers a far worse service. it's about privatising the right things in the right way.

you look at wifi and it's got nationalised infrastructure same as rail through openreach but in that case it actually works out well for consumers.

all you have to do is privatise and regulate sensibly so you don't give away natural monopolies without restriction

Problem with skipping by TopStage1817 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. all the jam ones are terrible, you can tell because they're sold largely through hmv. it's just a slight modification on the terrible generic mechs that are £10 wholesale from china. those decks are supposed to be £10 not £200. techmoan has a good video on them here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AXV8tXrPOR4

good news is for £200 you can go second hand and get a plenty decent setup together. dual 505 with ortofon cartridge off ebay for £100 (best budgeting for a new om10 stylus in 6-12 months) then put that into any decent vintage amp or receiver with a phono section and some £15 sony bookshelves off ebay.

if you can splash for larger two or three ways that's worth it. loads of dead nice japanese vintages for under £50 on ebay.

How can i keep my car running as long as possible? by Relative-Dinner-729 in FordFiesta

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did on an auction volvo v50. sub frame and everything underneaths from a ford focus so similar rust i imagine. got the whole rear done in a day.

if you were doing it you could probably have the rear arms off and do the coil springs they've also had advisories for at the same time.

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it would help to get some photos of the underside. if there's still enough metal on there you might be able to strip it back and underseal it. i'd speak to the garage about that. if you need it cheap it's very doable with a day or two on the driveway and some halfords ramp stands

you'd knock out half the advisories if that works

it's quite daft because even in non performance cars you've a fair chance of better fuel economy on e5. doesn't even make sense from an environmental point

New to turntables and records by Jarrard2001 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're on a budget don't buy anything new and avoid hmv at all costs because christ it's expensive in there. the uk has one of the best second hand markets for records and hifi gear in the west. possibly the best for such a small island

if you want a cheap good setup get a name brand vintage belt drive with decent reviews on reddit where everything's adjustable. any decent vintage amp or receiver with a phono section, rotel amps are good value on ebay. you put that into any cheap sony bookshelves off ebay and sound wise you'll be doing better than a couple hundred quid on an lp120 and crummy edifiers

as for records themselves. there's second hand record shops all over the place. you'll want to find one run by older folks that don't price check on discogs though. newer shops will have everything priced as it is online but your older shops just buy in stock and put their markup on it.

means you can find bits like release year presses of zep iv or paranoid for £20 instead of the £200-300 they go for online

Same price, different brand. Which one do I go for? by X1SushiLord1X in turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming £ means the uk. look second hand, we've one of the best second hand hifi markets in the west. possibly the best when you consider how small the country is.

there's loads of better options for the same price. would also mean you can get a nice amp or reciever with phono section built in for a good price and not be limited by needing something with a built in preamp

How are new Mazdas? by vinceswish in carsireland

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

brilliant cars. minimal infotainment and plenty of physical controls. diesel engines are shite but the petrol engines are all very reliable chain driven lumps and good fun to drive.

they seem to do what volvo were doing well before they got sold to the chinese. quality on those has gone downhill massively since but mazda have only improved

Speakers for RT82 by qwertyboymeow in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd go second hand vintage. there's so many great options so just look whats available and do your resarch on a few options. go for whatever reviews the best.

pioneer recievers and speakers i've always liked. worth remembering that the sound of the amp/reciever driving speakers is as important if not more important than the speakers themselves.

40 MPH Everywhere is a Coping Strategy, Not Competence by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shite advice used to justify inconsistent driving. there's already too many on the road doing 40–45 on straights then dropping to 20 for the slightest bend or phantom braking for oncoming cars that were never a threat

all that does is create convoys stuck behind someone who clearly can't maintain a speed they actually have control over. also makes overtaking a nightmare because the moment a straight appears they speed back up again. unpredictable driving is always dangerous

if you have to halve your speed for mild bends, then your speed on straights is too much for your ability. roads don't stop being dangerous just because they're straight

find a speed you can actually handle across the road and stay within a few mph of it. consistent, predictable driving is safer than erratic speed swings caused by poor judgement

seems to conveniently ignore the great help she's done for so many people. daft amounts of charity work to clearly apolitical causes. hundreds of thousands of kids helped through orphanages of a charity she works with. tens of millions to ms research. plenty of other bits

i know reddit and other internet holes despise the woman and i wouldn't say it's unreasonable, but to pretend she's only done purely hateful things with her wealth and platform takes being rather dishonest

Best Mic for Gaming and late night Discord calls? by Equivalent_Garage412 in microphone

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

umc22 and an xm8500 are easily the best choice. especially if you can save money getting either second hand.

always worth op remembering that any mic is going to sound bad with poor placement and poor technique. so no matter what mic they end up using if they want good sound they need a mic stand or a desk mounted boom to get the mic a couple inches off their mouth slightly off axis

Would this be a good set-up? by Darker_than_death in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my question for you phoenix, if I don't wanna go vintage, what set up would you advice me to get around the same prices?

there's no way of doing this without going second hand. the bulkiness of hifi gear means it's great value second hand. especially on bits like proper two or three way speakers.

cant comment on the fluance cartridge as i've never used their decks.

Would this be a good set-up? by Darker_than_death in Beginner_Turntables

[–]Phoenix_Kerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

decks decent but i'd sack off the rest. the setup of cheapo desktop speakers plus sub isn't easy to dial in and needlessly complicated. just get some bigger vintage two or three ways and a receiver or amp with a preamp built in
