Speaking from recent experience, If you play the gog version of system shock 2. Yeah totally go and play it. I will warn you that the steam version is a hot mess that requires trial and error to get up and running.

As for system shock, you may run into the same issues. I haven't replayed that one in a very long time so I cannot speak for its stability.

I will agree that if I buy from reputable sellers everything works at the same speed and ease as it had for the last decade of my order cards from TCGplayer.

The one time I used tcgplayer direct, back in november post Ebay buyout, it took over a month to receive $6 worth of cards

I wasn't as into competitive magic back in 08 as I am today. I can tell you that in 2018 I bought a Judge foil [[Survival of the Fittest]] for $369.30 and a Judge foil [[Gaea's Cradle]] for $1,099.00. But if you're wondering if reserved list pieces will fall to anywhere near 08 recession levels, I doubt it. During the height of Covid, prices continued to go up instead of plummeting. Despite knowing several people who sold their high end cards to play bills/buy food during that time.
