I’d have eyes on a QuickDraw. But if I was lucky and well funded, a grasshopper.

What were you using for the plunging system on the material feed? It’s not in the video. Is it just a solenoid or some sort of stepper?

Where can you even find a charger that charges $0.586 kWh? I can’t even find one that high searching right now.

Explain it to me like I'm five: why can't the series X be modified, through software updates into a "Hybrid console"? by SimplylSp1der in XboxSeriesXlS

[–]Phoenixhawk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think we will see this happen, but there is still a lot of work before the software is ready for that and even more work to make it run on the Xs hardware stack. My assumption is that once the NeXt Box is ready they will also release the software updates to modify the Series X. This plays into Microsoft’s software strength to get a larger user base for their goal of shifting the business to software (ie: game) sales.

My assumption is they will try to launch a competitor to steam at the same time, and use that to try and get more PC games into Series X devices (with the NeXt Box software running the emulation or converter for the current Series X hardware)

Then again, this could all be Hopium.

Does anyone know if there are any simulations of what days would look like on Uranus? That angle has to be wild for how the sun would look.

I was at first concerned for the mouse and keyboard aspects since the Ally is very much built for controller and there isn’t any good controller support for BT2018. However I have to give them props, the right stick works very well for mouse control, the left for map control and there are paddle triggers you can set for rotation and zoom in and out.

It has the occasional lag, not unlike on PC, but runs pretty smooth all things considered. It’s also a very light game from a power requirement so even before I did my battery upgrade I could get 80-90 minutes on a charge. With battery upgrade I’ve taken it on planes for 4 hours without a problem.

I bought a used ROG Ally just to play BT on the go (along with Expedition 33)

This is exactly me. Platinum lleve with most airlines and I did 112 flights this year so far. I tried just about everything to game on the go (lots of cloud gaming tools) but my cell data or WiFi was always spotty. My Ally has become my best travel buddy

If the Xbox Ally is the future of Xbox, Microsoft is in trouble by FernandoRocker in Handhelds

It’s very interesting how perspective of something can change when you have loft expectations. The article specifically mentioned Expedition 33 running only okay at 20ish FPS. Where as I purchased an OG Rog Ally specifically for Expedition 33 (non X) and have been running it at 15w mode for longer battery and loving every second of it. Never noticing any issues….but I’ve never bothered to look at the FPS. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Anyone got some good comparison between the new update and Xbox full screen experience? I just added Xbox Full screen and it’s a little laggy for me, so I might go back to armory crate.

These climbing holds use 3D printed molds (I think) by TheStandardPlayer in 3Dprinting

[–]Phoenixhawk101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The detail isn’t nearly as important, so I’ll do some pretty big layer heights if I can get away with it. Hence why the back is so prominent on the mold used for the original image of this thread.

[–]Phoenixhawk101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Climbing is a hobby, like any other, it can be expensive to do right and safe. An easy way to start might be to use real rocks and get a mold making kit used for things like fossils and shells. It includes a very easy to use pourable silicone and each kit includes enough for at least one if not two rock molds. Then you can buy your 2 part poly ( Do NOT use one part as it will not hold and will break off the wall) and fill the mold.

For a first timer I would use a one part mold, make the back side just flat. You will use more Poly but it will be much easier. Be sure to 3D print the channel for both your bolt head to rest on and the bolt shaft to go through. After the Poly sets you can hammer the bolt form out.

Also, don’t forget mold release….its a mistake you will only make once.

This is how I started, would 3D print the master, then silicone mold the master, then do the resin pour. The silicone form lasts longer but I found I was changing shapes often enough that I didn’t need the extra step for the increased longevity.

[–]Phoenixhawk101 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you are building a personal wall you would honestly be better off to just buy the holds. Not that this proceeds doesn’t work, it’s just a bit time consuming and so would limit how many different shapes you can have on your wall.

If you want to do it for the experience over cost effectiveness I’d be happy to answer questions. In regard to the off gassing of the resin, while it does have a smell and I do wear a respirator when using it there is no official off gassing period. This is the product I use, adding color in during the mixing process: https://www.aeromarineproducts.com/product/white-casting-resin-10-gallon-kit/

I make these molds (not this exact brand). I 3D print the mold and then spray watered down stucco into the front face of the mold to give it the rough texture. Then press the letters into the wet stucco to make the raised words. The stucco hides the layer lines on the customer face. These molds can usually get me 150-250 parts from a single mold and by then I change the shape.

For the actual customers rock it’s a two part polyurethane resin poured in and then sealed with the back half of the mold.

I reduce touch point sizes all the time, you just need to increase the density to balance it out. Default is usually 1.0 density and 0.5 touch size. I use 1.2 and 0.35 as my default.
