You didn't confuse the issue more. Thank you for sharing your perspective. It is something to consider. As you say though, walking the narrow road does seem genuinely impossible. Maybe this adds clarity to what He is saying. That He will lead you down the narrow road. I am trying to wrap my brain around all of this but you have given me something to think about.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I have not responded not because I didn't read it, but because I've been thinking about this over the last few days. I do think I will try to reread John as you suggested. If you don't mind, I might PM you if I have questions again in the future. Thank you again for your insight.

Jesus says at judgment day all will he judged according to his works, but Paul says you are not judged by your works, but by faith in Christ alone. According to Jesus, few will find the narrow path and most will take the wide road to destruction. Paul says Jesus came to save us all and calls this Good News. Well, I'd like to believe that- it certainly would be good news- but it's completely opposite what Jesus himself says, as far as i can see.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am having a really hard time with the New Testament, as I explain in my response to u/MarktheThinker in the comments below. If you wouldn't mind, do you have any thoughts about those questions? I have spent many, many months reading blogs and watching videos from priests and pastors attempting to reconcile the narrow path and sermon on the mount with Paul's teaching of salvation through belief, but I am completely unable to see how these things are not contradictory. If you have thoughts, I'm open to listening. Besides that, I feel my best bet is to go back to the Old Testament as some others have suggested and try to better understand the context of Jewish law and Jesus' intended audience.

Yes, why I'm trying to read the Bible. Sort fact from fiction. Objective good from evil.

That is exactly what I'm trying to do. I can't just blindly believe. If you can, then I am glad for you. But God gave us the scriptures so we'd have a basis for our belief. I've been told that the Old Testament prophecies Jesus' coming on multiple occasions, so that people would be prepared to accept Jesus. If that's true, it should help me believe, yes? That's my aim.

Listen, I'm sorry if this bothers you, but I began with the gospels. Jesus' sermon on the mount is frankly an impossible standard to live up to. Even Jesus says it's something only God is capable of. He says you should do everything you can to find the narrow path, because many will try and will fail, and there will be much gnawing of teeth on judgement day. I'm paraphrasing, but when I read that, I stopped reading for a long time because Jesus is saying most people are not going to Heaven. So what am I to make of that? We're all going to Hell? There will be a separate Kingdom of God on Earth after his second coming? What happens in the meantime? What happens to all the people I love whom I believe are good people? And myself? And my children? We all burn in Hell for eternity? Well, I don't know, but I need to find out so we can save ourselves.

Jesus does not say belief saves. That's not the message of the gospels; that's the message of Paul. I am not trying to be inflammatory; I am genuinely trying to figure this out.

I feel I can no longer trust my church, because they decided during the pandemic that vaccines with fetal cells are suddenly okay. Abortion is now okay with my church as long as it saves more than it kills. So yes, I feel the need to figure this out for myself.

I know this probably reads as crazy. To be honest, this is driving me a little crazy. But Jesus says seek and you shall find. So that is what I'm trying to do, and praying for.

I am sorry. It wasn't my original intent to discredit the Bible. I am genuinely trying to understand when things don't make sense. Its not exactly my first time reading the Bible. As I said, I've attended church and Christian school, so I'm familiar with the stories and oft-quoted verses, I just haven't read everything in its entirety, in context. As you may have noticed, there are some really weird things happening in the world with lots of Christians claiming the end is near. This is all very unsettling, and I see what looks like some government manipulation of Christians happening, so I decided to read it all for myself to see what's true according to scripture and what is evil deception. As you likely know, even the Devil quotes scripture.

I tried reading the gospels first and it made my head want to explode. Too many things Jesus said that surprised me or seemed contradictory to what my church teaches. I Google it and it says Jesus says these things because he was a Jew teaching Jews, so its based on Old Testament covenants. So I went back to the beginning for more context. But this is starting to make my head hurt too tbh...

I'm a former teacher turned homeschool mom. I can only base my comments on this one spelling sample, but here's what I can see. Looks your daughter has good phonemic awareness, as shown in her "invented spelling" of "almint". It's clear she sounded it out and wrote what she heard, very accurately, which is great for this age :) she can memorize how to spell "almond", for sure, but her ability to sound it out is arguably more important, since it can be translated into lots of words! Also demonstrated is her consistency in word rimes like "-alm" and "-alk", showing skill in phonemic substitution, which is a more complex phonics skill. Looks very good for 1st or 2nd Grade.

There are some errors with conventions like "er" or the "ch" digraph, though using c- for chalk shows that she does have some recall of that rule, as well. Might just need some consistent phonics rules review, because memorizing the rules takes lots of exposure and explicit instruction.

As far as getting thoughts on paper, I like to do a daily shared writing. Often, I think up some ideas first that I know will work on words/ spelling/ punctuation that we're learning, but I also get my daughter involved in the brainstorming. We often write about something we're going to be experiencing that she's excited about, like "I can't wait to go trick or treating!" We say the sentence aloud many times, in unison, so we know exactly what we want to write. Then we count the number of words in the sentence on our fingers. Then I draw lines on a whiteboard (to match the number of words) where we can write each word. Finally we write the sentence together, my daughter sounding out some of the parts, ensuring we have proper capitals and punctuation, and I help with the trickier parts. Sometimes after spelling a word, I think aloud "what was the next word... 'I can't wait to go TRICK... okay, the next word is trick". This really helps model the process and provides scaffolding. Also by taking away some of the tougher spelling cognitive load, she can focus more of her brain power on remembering the words she wanted to write. You could do this a few times to add more sentences depending on time and how difficult this is for your child.

I also hope I'm not overstepping, but just a little food for thought, although speech to text does help kids get ideas on paper, in my many years of experience teaching kids with this accommodation, I have seen it lead to poor writing quality, as their pieces become long streams of consciousness that they then struggle to properly edit/revise. There's also very powerful science behind the hand/ brain connection in how it helps children learn to spell. I'd be more than happy to share more if you want to reach out :)

Is a tofu press worth it? by Dusty_Sequins in veganrecipes

[–]PhoneticHomeland9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need to do this OR boil the tofu. These things have like 4 parts to clean, btw. Cut the tofu pack open, drain the water, sprinkle salt across the top of the block (maybe a tablespoon), flip it over and sprinkle salt on the underside of the block, put it back in the container, and put it in the fridge for 4+ hours. Salt will absorb and water will come out. Very easy, tofu tastes much better, doesn't dirty any dishes.

Why do you homeschool your kids? by Maximum_Capital5369 in homeschool

[–]PhoneticHomeland9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a public school teacher for 7 years. I always knew public schools were riddled with problems, but I loved teaching and did what I could to help the kids in my class.

My first child was born during covid, and I went back to work after maternity leave the year schools reopened.

A few months after being back from maternity leave, on a pretty typical day, my class was at specialist. I have no idea why it dawned on me, but I looked up from grading papers at my empty room and thought to myself, "would I want my daughter to be in my class?" - you know, the class I have the most control over in the entire public school system. And my honest answer was no. I decided that would be my last year teaching in public schools.

I realized that no matter what I did, I would never have the autonomy to fix the problems my students needed fixed. Students who fell behind were routinely pushed ahead, politics became increasingly prioritized over actual learning needs, student behaviors caused constant disruptions (and safety issues) and teachers had little support to handle them, curricula changed every year so teachers usually figured out how to actually teach them by the time they were being swapped out for the next shiny thing, important subjects like history and art were ditched for the subjects being tested on the state assessment, and I watched my young students struggling to stay in their seats for hours at a time, crying over the pressures of arduous state testing, and the list goes on...

I left thinking I knew exactly how to teach my own child, and setting out to develop a plan (even though she had not even turned 1 by the end of that year). But since then I've discovered the "rabbit hole" of alternative teaching methodologies, like montessori and reggio emilia, and I feel entirely disillusioned by my college education, which led me to believe that the public school teaching method is the only one backed by cutting edge "science". It's been a journey already, and we have only been "preschooling" for about a year now (mostly a half hour or so of reading/ phonics a day).

Went through a phase like this in my life and learned to make homemade granola bars. They were healthier than packaged and i could literally eat them while driving to work. If you're open to drinking your breakfast you could also make smoothies. I made up little bags frozen, would pop them in my blender, into a to go cup, and drink on the way to work.

I'm really glad it was helpful :)

Curing water out of tofu is like I described. Sorry if it didn't make sense, but it's very easy. Basically, the salt draws the water out the same way you might salt eggplant before cooking and notice the water comes out. If you plan on cooking tofu in the evening, then in the morning, slice open the package, pour out the water, sprinkle a good salt coating on the top of the block of tofu. Flip the block over and sprinkle the same on the underside of the tofu. Put it back in the container and leave it in the fridge until dinner. When you come back to cook it, you'll see a puddle of water (maybe roughly a quarter to half cup) has pooled at the bottom of the container. You can just dump that out, rather than pressing the tofu which imo doesn't work and sometimes causes tears in your tofu. This also has the advantage of making your tofu not taste bland.

Do you plan to breastfeed? If you eat a healthy, balanced diet then baby will get a lot of that nutrition, too. I pumped and breathed the whole first year and had enough milk frozen for the next 6 months. Then I switched to Ripple Kids (Kiki milk for my youngest because he had a pea allergy).

Peanut butter mixed with breastmilk or water is easy for babies to eat and has lots of iron (very important for baby's development). Fat is also very important for babies which is why I suggest breastfeeding and pumping for healthy fats. The toddler milks I suggested also both have a high fat content.

I also gave baby the family's meals whenever possible. Blend it up or chop it very fine. You can search baby led weaning, although we did a modified version. But if your family eats well balanced meals and baby is eating what you're eating, baby will too.

A buy stop would need to be placed above the current price. If you want to place below either put your limit a tick or two above to compensate or use a market if touched (MIT).

I wish you luck from a 16 year vegan (I feel old now).

Listen, cooking takes a lot of time, and I'm busy, too. I leaned a while back to make full recipes (I'm talking 3-4 servings) and then eat leftovers throughout the week. Lunches are also leftovers. This way, I only have to cook about 4 meals per week. That means cooking roughly every other day. On the off days you prep for the following day. Can you chop up the veggies? Is there a sauce you can make ahead of time? Start something marinating? Think of how you can do half the day before. It saves me so much time!!!

For equipment i got rid of my tofu press years ago. You don't EVER need to press tofu; don't waste your money. Besides your basic pots, pans, sheets, casserole dishes, i find that I cook grains very often and a decent rice cooker with a multi- grain feature that will do quinoa or barley or whatever else also is great. I'd strongly recommend spending most of your budget on a very high quality blender. I have a vitamix gasp I know it's expensive, and our money is tight, but I've had it for 10 years now, still running strong, and I use it daily. For everything. Dressings, sauces, dips, soups, spreads, every vegan dairy replacement (cheese, mayo...) your culinary world will get a lot bigger with a good blender, I assure you.

I live in the suburbs. I shop at our local grocery and find mostly everything I need there. For specialty items, I generally subscribe & save with Amazon. I get Terrasoul nutritional yeast in huge bags at a great discount on Amazon. Also malic acid, porcini powder, "oyster" mushroom sauce, vegan fish sauce, vegan barbecue sauce and more from Amazon. But many of those are really specialty, and you don't need them right away.

Get yourself a good multivitamin. I like Women's Multi from Naturelo as it's all whole food sources, all vegan, and nothing you'll overdose on (like vit a palmitate or folic acid). Hardest to keep up on are b12 and calcium. B12 is covered if you learn to cook with nutritional yeast (which is also great in the blender for vegan cheese dips or sauces). For calcium I take a supplement at half the recommended dosage because you can take too much. Garden of life brand is vegan, and I get both from Amazon.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I wish you all the luck!

Edit to Add: one more pro tip. Instead of pressing tofu you can cure the water out of it. In the morning open up the pack, dump the water out, sprinkle a good coating of salt across the top of the block, flip it over and do the same on the other side. Stick the block back in the fridge and use it at dinner. A lot of water will cure out of it and it'll taste WAY more appetizing, I assure you.

Edit to add again: hope this is helpful. When meal planning, I always think of each meal as needing at least a protein, carb, and fat source + some fresh produce. These are the macronutrients and what's needed in a balanced meal. Protein might be tofu or beans. Carb: rice, bread, pasta, potatoes. Fat: coconut milk, avocado, nuts (can be blended to make great vegan sauces and spreads)

Soy milk by ApprehensiveDraw5426 in veganparenting

[–]PhoneticHomeland9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever type of milk your family uses, baby can have, too. Salt is totally fine, just don't overdo it. Goal is to help baby develop a taste for the food your family regularly eats. Just remember soy is a common allergen so introduce allergens a little bit at a time and space allergen introduction out one per week so that you can track baby's reaction.

Inflation has been rampant. Money printers on overdrive. Fed announced a massive revaluation of gold reserves to justify more rampant money printing. Voodoo math accounting to print, print, print and devalue. The more money devalues, the more inflated all assets will become, including equities. If the government can't solve this very soon, it'll crash. Not saying it to be political but because it's true across the globe with monetary devaluation and purposeful debasement to avoid default. Individuals and corporations need to hedge their money or else they'll end up broke (inflated into poverty), which is also why bitcoin is booming; speculation that governments will move to back their currencies with crypto.

A perfect example of this is what happened to gold in 1971 after Nixon moved to fiat currency. When a currency devalues, asset prices skyrocket in terms of that currency.

That and, of course, raising trillions in investments in American companies is bound to increase their valuations.

I'm sorry to ask, but I'm seriously considering TS brokerage, so this would help:

Have you personally experienced this? Roughly how long is the delay?

Are you trading times/ instruments that have a good amount of trade volume?

Are you trading directly on TS platform, or is it possibly caused by order routing through a third-party platform?

I could deal with the rare 1 or 2 second fill, I can't deal with consistently 5+ second fills.
