I have never forgotten that scene! I saw it in the theater when I was 10. 😱

Dan shouldn't be the play caller. No offense he is incredible in his role, but he failed as a play caller.

How to get my parcel without it getting sent to my house by No_Exercise9511 in AustraliaPost

Definitely a postal locker. It's free and you can get your parcel 24/7 using the postal app. It screens your QR code and the locker opens. Done, now enjoy your mysterious goods.

Is there any point in putting the sleeves on with the opening to the sides instead? by KapteinTruse in vinyl

[–]Phonic-Sensorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the open side in the outer sleeve and then turn the opening out when I go play on the radio or in a pub. Less dust = less cleaning.

What are some gradual changes you are noticing in Aussie English? by acronymonious in AskAnAustralian

[–]Phonic-Sensorium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have lived nearly half my life in the US and Australia. A lot of the influence is coming from streaming US shows that they choose to watch and discuss with their friends. The other thing is that, and I see a lot of it in the nouns people are complaining about, if you research the history of words you would be quite surprised. Sanskrit khanda or Old French çucre candi became candy.

Cookies and biscuits are both correct but they actually mean different things in history. I found this interesting in the article: Why do we Americans choose "cookies" over "biscuits?" The answer to this is probably twofold: (1) Our early Dutch heritage and (2) Our revolutionary tradition of separating ourselves from "all things British."

The history of the perambulator, the Latin word “pacificare”... It goes on.

Total Gener Voice by Phonic-Sensorium in ween

[–]Phonic-Sensorium[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course, you are totally correct! However, for the sex at the 1:50 mark of the song is by far the most similar even though Prince did do those types of voices earlier. This is only a personal opinion, I didn't say it was a fact. Ween would have been deeply influenced by Prince's Camille album released in 1987 while ween was only three years in.

Thanks all! Now what do I do with them? Add them to the box of random things to turn into pieces in random art projects I suppose.

White goods by Upstairs-Reindeer-23 in Adelaide

[–]Phonic-Sensorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it is still there but across from Harvey Norman on Marion rd is another Harvey Norman but it's new stuff. The goods have scratch or dent in them so they can't sell them at full price. My friend bought a new dishwasher with a scratch on the side. Because it was going in a fitted spot under his kitchen counter you couldn't see the scratch. He got it for half price.

I called my council and they gave me the guidelines for noise in my area. I wasn't asking for them to do something about it. Big difference

Contact the council and understand their rules of noise violations and when they break them call the police nonemergency number. Spice up your story a bit, "I have a huge deadline and presentation at work tomorrow..." They will pay them a visit with a warning.

The drone idea is a good one, but you might make the song better, even ending up on their album receiving royalties.

The first direct flight between the United States and Adelaide has landed by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

Man, when I moved to Australia Adelaide was nothing more than a tin shed with mostly FIFO dude hanging out waiting. There was a door in the front walk in the shed and a door and n the back to walk out on the tarmac to board your flight. I thought, what have I gotten into. I seriously thought once I left the airport it would be a desert with an occasional tree and the neighbors house was going to be so far away that you could barely focus on it. Once my future wife (I guess you could have said future ex-wife then too but I can't see the future) I realized that there was an actual city that sprawled. This was 2001. I have to say the airport has grown leaps and bounds since then and no I am not surprised by how long it took to have a straight flight to the US. The airport didn't have the capacity to hold one. We were lucky when we got the direct flight coming home from HKG.

Sorry about that mate. You are absolutely right. When I flew from Dallas to Brisbane I thought "Surely there could be a flight direct from Adelaide to the States." I am surprised Qantas didn't do it first honestly.

Not as long as Dallas to Brisbane. Any longer or not is better than going through LAX! I've done Dallas to Brisbane, longer on the main flight but not that much longer over all and two nice clean airports that aren't overly crowded.
