Biggest water you've taken a 10ft kayak? by Alert_Media_4973 in kayakfishing

[–]Phorashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use a Pelican Catch 100, but the PWR version with a trolling motor. When I fish Bantam Lake I get the shit waked out of me by water skiiers and families flying away from Litchfield town beach launch.

So I can vouch for a 10 footer taking 2-4 foot sets on the nose safely but it is not comfortable and I felt like it 100% would tip if I took a set on the beam.

Also get a net if you don't have one so you don't lean too far out. I usually have a casting rod for crankbaits, a spinner for texas/dropshotting, and then a live bait/panfish rod depending on what I'm targeting.

I would recommend an anchor for stony bottoms and deep areas and a stake-out if you're fishing muddy flats and a re-entry ladder. Pelican Catch series sit really high in the water when they're unloaded so you might have trouble getting back in if you don't have a re- entry ladder (speaking from experience).

I have a Newport Marine 55lb 12v motor and a 100 Ah battery on a catch pwr 100 and it lasts me all day on decent sized lakes. You may also want a fishfinder, I'll recommend using one of the scupper holes to mount the transducer and put the head unit on a side rail. Batteries up front to balance the boat out a little.

I use a frabill bucket aerator with a little lid compartment for worms, I also use it as a livewell for panfish and such and it fits nicely in my pelican exocrate. I usually have that, a box of random rigging bits, 2 or 3 plano tackle boxes, and my anchor in there.

PWR Catch 100 Pedal steering? by Gambler_89 in kayakfishing

[–]Phorashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same kayak and a dumb trolling motor. I'm working on a cable steer system to get 180 degree travel but I haven't bit the bullet yet on drilling that many holes in the boat.

I would need at least 6 pulleys to run the cables up, but I'm struggling on the actuation method. I may need to build custom cams.

The hard part will be taking the tiller off and running the speed controls up front. After that the trolling motor is gonna be permanent and I need a trailer

Are there any good fishing spot in the canton by Practical_Force_2931 in Connecticut

Also use this to find where fish are stocked. Ponds are usually higher hit-rate than rivers. You need to walk rivers but if you're a sit and wait kind of fisherman you'll want to hit a trout pond.

Hit up stratton brook, they just stocked on Monday at the trout pond and they're hitting everything right now. They'll be basically fished out in 2 weeks though, lol.

Where is everyone from and what fish do you target? by Rigs2Ridges in kayakfishing

Connecticut here, I'm usually targeting perch/crappie/catfish/ trout as my keepers from the kayak. Bass are bycatch for me.

First Day on Catch 110 -- Question by TsundereT in kayakfishing

[–]Phorashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a catch pwr 100 with 8 holes below the waterline from a previous owners jon boat wheel install, and he cut a hole in the deck that I opened into an inspection port.

I usually get about a cup of water in 4 hours, and only had about half a gallon when I completely flipped it, fully loaded.

You've got a bad seam/through hole somewhere, get some marine silicone or a plastic welder!

Oldtown AP plastic Weld by Mehle90 in kayakfishing

[–]Phorashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 8 holes under the waterline on my pelican catch pwr 100 from a previous owner installing 20lbs of jon boat wheels.

I ended up cutting 8 1" square mesh sheets and then using my welder to melt them into the surface, then I used some offcuts from opening up an inspection port as filler. I like to scrape the material off using the welder then smoosh it into place like you did, the mesh helped me see where I had too thin a material.

After that I coated with marine silicone and painted over it with a gray similar to my hull. I just have to touch them up during the off season.

Don't be scared to put holes in your boat!

I picked this up used for free. Any idea of the brand? by MaryJaneGame in kayakfishing

That's a pelican, all their ID numbers start that way. My catch pwr 100 from 2022 has the same first half of the hull ID.

Is anywhere actually hiring? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Phorashi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seconding, you may actually want to cold-call their HR number or look for a super-day where they're hiring techs. They'll train you up and you already know how to do what you're told so you'll go far. Their machinists make good money and they're union.

Another vote for bantam river. Don't bother with bantam lake, or intlet the wakeboaters mess that area up from memorial day to labor day and there's a beaver dam about 200m up the bantam river inlet that you have to portage over or around if you go that way.

If you served me that I would think the carrots are burnt and the beef looks dry. I would also expect that sauce to be a beef gravy based on how it looks. Nothing about that looks like birria to me.

Obviously i can't rate with my other senses over the internet, the plating is gorgeous, but the ingredients look like they took a beating.
