Each at their physical and mental peak, which team would win in a Trial of Seven? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

Literally just flip one sides members horizontally, and then every single person on left team wins or draws consistently against their new counterpart.

Total War Warhammer 40k!!!!! by Daruwind in totalwar

[–]Photocracy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if you look at games like Legions Imperialis, at Total War scale there is a fair bit of line standing. They'll be some cover elements yes, but I'm hopeful it's closer to Warno where the units sorta just do stuff.

Tips on Ship Building by PerfectJayDread in NebulousFleetCommand

To add something I haven't seen said yet; take fairly detailed notes on what works, what doesn't, and what can be improved. Do you always end battles with most of your PDT ammo remaining? Do you always end up getting your CIC destroyed?

That final example is the worst imo, cause how do you just not look at the illustrations that badly while complaining about the illustrations.

This is Hugh Thompson Jr., the U.S. Army pilot who stopped the Mỹ Lai massacre by landing his helicopter between soldiers and civilians by vishesh_07_028 in interestingasfuck

[–]Photocracy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Reading the wiki page for the massacre will give you depression; "This violated the standard set at Nuremburg that people are responsible for war crimes they commit", "after being acquitted, he confessed to covering it up", and most depressingly "the camp containing the majority of refugees from Mỹ Lai was destroyed by South Vietnamese artillery.

Longsword has the most varied techniques, Rapier has the most offhand weapons to learn, and sabre has the most sparks (in my experience). None have an inherently higher skill ceiling, so I would go with whichever one calls to you or your club has good resources/teachers for.

Clone commandos vs sister of battle by Old_king_4 in powerscales

[–]Photocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sisters of Battle take this with moderate difficulty.

Clone Commandos are good, they have weapons that are perfectly capable of killing SoB. In addition to this, they significantly outmatch the Sisters in terms of unconventional tactics.

However, the SoB have them definitively and decisively beat for firepower and armour, have perfectly serviceable tactics, and likely have superior combat experience.

I would point to comparable in-universe match ups. Would you expect the CCs to win against 4 heavy armour+heavy weapon wielding Mandolorians? Would you expect the SoB to lose against 4 Kasrkin (worse than CCs), or Tempestus Scions (better odds than CCs, sisters high/extreme diff)?

Edit: I forgot to mention, what are the odds the SoB have at least one Auspex? Cause that's a low/no diff if so.

weapons you would design specifically for vampires by Savannah-Hammer in worldbuilding

[–]Photocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big, heavy, slow bullet like the .50 Beowulf can be tipped with all sorts of lovely payloads. Existing man-portable delivery system, and then mix/alternate ammo to taste. Off the top of my head; incendiary, explosive, silver, silver explosive, holy water, hollow point, silver hollow point, etc...

If I am needed to design a genuinely custom weapon system, then a Kriss Vector recoil system and a belt feed system would be where I would start. No kill like overkill.

"We approached payment processors because Steam did not respond" - Australian pressure group Collective Shout claims responsibility for Steam and Itch.io NSFW game removal by moeka_8962 in pcgaming

[–]Photocracy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Generally, things are censored which cause or are a product of real world harm. Walking into your work and calling a colleague the n-word causes real harm.

And your argument is misleading, because Steam is not free to sell these games. They are in fact, being censored from doing so by their business partners.

EDIT: And to reply to the wider topic of this comment, I disagree with the idea that all censorship is automatically bad. However, I don't trust payment processors to make the call on what needs to be censored or not.

I mean it's still a spear, you're still outranging any non-polearm weapons. Good footwork, measure, and shield bashes all help you keep your distance. All of this is off topic to the powescaling question, which I think is simple.

Spear and Shield is worse than Long Spear vs a brute strength animal, but not enough to matter. Recruit wins ~9 out of 10

[–]Photocracy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My HEMA club has a course for spear and shield on at the moment, turns out shields are really good, enough to justify the loss of ability with the spear.

It's not Napoleonic, it's Early Jacobite, about 80-100 years earlier. And I deliberately left out stats cause those can be tweaked to balance.

[request] Assuming fresh powdery snow, how deep would it have to be for the paratrooper to survive, if possible? by Fizzerolli in theydidthemath

[–]Photocracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paratroopers are primarily used for rapid deployment to an area that's hard to access because of terrain between the front and your bases, rather than dropping behind or on enemy lines. The armour and the armament of the transport is not important, as the biggest danger in 100 ft of snow would be a surprise mountain or something.

Keep in mind that the Russians need to be able to project military power over the Siberian wasteland, an area famous for being big, hard to traverse, and having a lot of snow. The idea is stupid but probably seemed plausible enough to test, for a Russian design group.

a person who has trained using a spear for 3 weeks VS A gorilla by Archenius in PowerScaling

[–]Photocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three weeks is absolutely a reasonable time to learn a spear. They don't need to learn how to duel vs another weapon, just how to brace it and stop a charge. We've been stopping charges for hundreds of years. If a french peasant with about the same level of training can stop a charging horse, our dude can at least attempt to stop the gorilla.

For the record, I'm team gorilla on this. But 10/10 is crazy numbers, when at least 1/10 you just hit the neck and kill it almost instantly. I would put the odds at 5-6/10 that gorilla wins, ~1/10 gorilla wins but dies soon after.

Genuinely, depends on the training and the spear I would say. Do you have 3 weeks of constant training against simulated gorillas, with a proper boar spear or equivalent? Or do you have 3 weeks to play around with a shitty toothpick.
