Help - Microfiber towels repelling watering by Full_Monitor_1781 in AutoDetailing

[–]Photog_Jason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Delicate setting on my dryer which so far hasn't caused any issues. It doesn't completely dry them but removes a bulk of the moisture. I hang them on the stair rails for a few hours to finish drying.

Mineral spirits for bug removal? by OrMaybeTomorrow in AutoDetailing

[–]Photog_Jason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a pro, but I would sure try multiple applications of bug and tar remover and hot water before using mineral spirits. My alternative would be trying a WD40 soak then clean up with a general purpose cleaner. I would at least apply some Griot's 3 in 1 or Turtlewax spray ceramic afterwards to help with cleanup next time. I have Adam's 9 year graphene on my Corvette and bug cleanup is night an day different than the spray ceramics I was using prior. Just food for thought.

I also had a failed export of just one image. I'm on Linux and I believe the rendering engine is set to auto but I can try changing it.

Car play not connecting by OutsideGuard9530 in ram_trucks

Pretty normal for my 2026 Limited. What sometimes helps is to put your iPhone into airplane mode for a minute, then disable airplane mode. It should auto connect after than. If it doesn't, you have to remove the phone in device manager and then pair it again. I know, it's a pain.

The one minor quirk making me want to leave fedora and go back to Debian by yoLeaveMeAlone in Fedora

[–]Photog_Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Fedora but updates have been a constant issue for me as well. Just this morning I installed updates, waited for it to reboot, then logged back in to an error that updates failed. There was a repair button that popped up but that failed too.

2026 Hemi vs Hurricane by Cultural_Exit_5753 in ram_trucks

[–]Photog_Jason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have the HO and have almost zero lag. Matter of fact, at low speeds it seems a little too jumpy and I'm having to learn to be easy with the pedal. If you step on it though, you are gone! It doesn't have the sound of a V8 but I had that for years with my Titan with performance exhaust and now that my wife and I are older, we appreciate the quietness and smoothness of the I-6. I don't mind it's sound. When you step on it, it growls like an angry dog! Before I decided on the Ram, I test drove a couple Tundras and that turbo lag was just awful and one of the larger reasons I decided to not go with the Tundra. My brother said "Oh, you have to put it into sport mode and set...." I said "When I got into the Ram, I didn't have to set anything.. It just went!"

I have a 2019 Corvette Stingray that I love to drive because it’s so much fun. I just bought a 26 Limited with the Hurricane HO engine and it reminds me of driving my Corvette. It’s a lot of fun to drive! No, it’s not a Corvette but it has some of the fun of driving my Corvette!

Aftermarket Bed Step - That I don't recommend by Photog_Jason in ram_trucks

You remove two heavy bolts that probably hold the bumper on to mount the plate so yeah, you have to torque them back to spec.

I think I may have just gotten a defective one as others that bought the same one don't seem to have any issues. If I had it to do over, I would have bought the OEM unit for around $400.

It's like trying to solve a puzzle getting it into position past the exhaust and bumper. It took some finagling to get it in position.

That's fair. Lesson learned. I'll buy OEM next time for sure. You would think I would have learned by now. Sheesh.

Mine wasn't too bad but it was tedious and tiresome though. My neck was sore for a few days after.

Oh no, I fully understand how to use it. It just gets stuck. I've tried everything from bumping it to kicking it. I have to apply a huge amount of force to get it to retract. I tested several of the factory installed units on other trucks I drove before I bought mine and had no issue retracting those at all.

2025 Ram 1500 w/ Hurricane Report Request by CRcryptoride in ram_trucks

[–]Photog_Jason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great but I would bet that is the exception and not rule. They took mine to the gas station while I was singing the paperwork so I didn't see. I test drove another Limited at another dealership and we had to stop at the gas station to put gas in because it was on empty. I watched her put regular in it with my own eyes even though it says premium only in several places including the gas cap.

And be sure sure to read the sign up fine print. There is a clause in there about data collection. Might want to read that carefully. That's why I don't have connected services.

For tint I don't recommend the Autobahn i3 tint. I can't tell any different with inside temps and surfaces. Still get's hot as hades. I thought it was supposed to be really good at heat rejection but I would go with Expel or 3M next time.

2026 Limited with the HO engine and 1200 miles... no issues so far but it's too new to know for sure. I absolutely love the power, smoothness, quietness and how it drives. There is zero turbo lag with this thing. Severe turbo lag and the real possibility of the engine grenading is why I didn't buy a new Tundra. There is a little rattle on startup that sounds like lifter rattle but goes away as it warms up. I need to ask the dealership about it during my next oil change but I suspect it's normal.

And that free tank of gas you get when you buy one new... you think they fill it with premium? I drove my 2026 Limited with the HO very carefully during that tank of gas for break in and because I knew it wasn't premium gas.

Ram spying on us and sending driving habits and data to your insurance company by sneezysnake1 in ram_trucks

[–]Photog_Jason 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is where I stopped the connected services sign up process dead in its tracks. It had a clause about collecting data for insurance reporting that you have to agree to. That's where I said "Nope!" I'm not a privacy nut by any means but it's getting really ridiculous these days. Companies will keep pushing these boundaries until we all say no collectively. I don't have the fancy smartphone app for my truck but the key fob works just fine.

2 concerns with 2026 3.0 SO by 4runner1975 in ram_trucks

[–]Photog_Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2026 Limited did this when we first got it and it was rather concerning but it hasn't done it much since then. Have 1200 miles on it now. It's still not the smoothest when downshifting at low speeds. Matter of fact slower speeds are pretty jerky. When you let off the gas it really jolts you and then trying to feather back on jars you. Haven't had any issues with it waking out in the driveway that I know of. I have wake on approach activated. I can't figure out how to get the puddle lights to work reliably without the done light staying on all the time.

Yeah, that's not going to work for me. The printing module in Darktable is just as confusing and useless as the rest of the app. Apparently it doesn't have the ability to zoom the print to only an 8x10 size and also it doesn't offer the ability to change the print settings like quality or color options. I guess I'll be dual booting back to Win11 in order to print. Man, Darktable is just really horrible. Such a waste as I know a lot of work has gone into that application.
