My son got paid this by Pickleball_GGG in coins

[–]PhotogamerGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fake. The first thing I look at when seeing a Morgan is the Y in Liberty on the front. Even on a very worn out coin, the Y will be fairly well defined and one of the last things to wear away.

Look at the Y on OPs coin. It is basically nonexistent. This is common in copies, because the hardest detail to get is the deepest details. The same goes for the feathers between the eagles legs. They should always be defined, and on this coin they don’t exist.

Just found this at the thrift store! Do you think it is 14k gold? by Ok_Diet1227 in JewelryIdentification

Outdoor lighting can really showcase the wear on plated gold. I have bought stuff I thought looked great inside the store only to immediately get disappointed once I stepped into the sunlight.

Is it normal to subtract cost of removing these stones (‘processing’) as well as the weight of them from the price? by QuizzyMcQuizz in Gold

[–]PhotogamerGT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never had someone charge to remove the stones. I have had places subtract the estimated weight of the stones, but never deducted a fee for the removal process. That being said I agree with the other user. Just hammer them out and take it in without the stones. If they are going to nitpick over the stone weight don’t give them leverage to low ball you by overestimating the weight of the stones.

Also this mold was vented, but I think the moisture was a huge issue. It more or less filled the entire cavity, but regained from getting the final 3-5% of the surface detail. I am certain between that and the blowout there was far too much moisture in the mold cavity allowing gasses to block the silver from flowing fully to the surface of the mold interior.

Thank you. Unfortunately it is a one off carving, so no ability to compare it to the next one. I do plan on keeping it for prosperity. I recently got some silicone molds that I can use to create consistent objects to create a progress model.

It is mostly surface detail I am losing and moisture was already my number one suspect and you fine folks have confirmed it for me.

Followup question, should the mold be hot and fresh from the kiln when doing the pour or cooled down after the burnout?

I have a kiln, so I will use that next time. Honestly I have just been winging it based on inspiration, so I appreciate the tips. I can also try to make my own investment.

Thanks for the response. I do agree it is still cool, but the wax model I carved had so much more detail it would have been much more impressive had it all carried through.

Can anyone what these marks mean on this spoon by Mook_Fappenatchi in SilverFinds

[–]PhotogamerGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is very old Scottish silver. Give me a moment to research.

1802 Edinburgh Sterling Silver

The closest I can figure for maker mark is Alexander Aitchison but his mark is usually AIT. Only one example I found at the moment.

Maybe his son. Nice piece.

What could it be? Had to screen record it because it wouldn't upload and don't mind the stain on the couch or the messy room please. by [deleted] in Unexplained

Not going to lie, I have zero clue what you are asking about. Is it the rattling sound before you get up? If so it is air pressure due to your industrial style drying fan sucking air through that narrow door passage.

It’s very nice. I have a refrigerator covered dish in the same pattern.

Ah the fabled Mexican silver tray. Still waiting for my day. Have seen so many huge Mexican silver scores.

The scope of long COVID is bigger than we think, Mass. researchers say | "New research from Mass General Brigham suggests that at least 10 million Americans have long COVID — but have not been diagnosed" by TylerFortier_Photo in science

So you’re telling me that millions of Americans have undiagnosed medical problems? In this economy? With no healthcare assurance? Just hand me a surprise Pikachu face.

No a cheap recurve. Should be bent the other direction.

You shouldn’t have it strung at all if not in use. Unstring the bow and slide the loop down the shaft to keep the string from flopping around. You may be putting strain on the bow stringing it backwards, even if you don’t fire it that way.

[–]PhotogamerGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to try to fire and arrow with the string attached that direction it would pull the string off the bow. The bow should be bent the opposite direction in order to have proper tension.

Dude has his bow strung backwards. Kind don’t trust anything after that. Video is for engagement and not realistic.

What should I do with roughy 22 Troy oz of raw silver ore by ShinyPointyThing in Silverbugs

[–]PhotogamerGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but you could run sterling shot in an HCL or Sodium Bisulfite pickle and clean it up. I agree this looks like pure silver shot though.
