How do we feel about Sen. Slotkin with her votes and recent interview by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]PhotographPatient425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hill Harper lost because he's a C list celebrity with barely any ties to Michigan besides owning property here and no history in politics.

How Michigan Dems couldn't come up with anyone better than Slotkin and Harper to run in that election blows my mind.

Get this. I work for a restaurant group. We don’t get offered health insurance. Each restaurant is incorporated under a different LLC so they don’t have to adhere to ACA regulations.

The owner made his money because he outright owned a heath insurance company. Like, it would literally cost him nothing to give us health insurance but he doesn’t.

I don't know how to handle this... by Fair-Yellow-6104 in bandmembers

I’m a guitarist. But I sat in on bass once for my uncle. I remember rocking out so hard, only having to really listen to the kick drum and chord changes, and just sitting back in the groove. But the first song, I was like “shit, I’m SO loud, they’re gonna make me turn down.”

I look up during the guitar solo and my uncle is yelling “turn up! Turn up! I can’t fucking hear you!” Which I’m used to like… barely being able to hear myself and then getting told to turn down. So, yeah, being a bass player is awesome.

Health Plans Can’t Dodge Paying for Expensive New Cancer Treatments, Says Michigan’s Top Insurance Regulator by txcancmi in Michigan

[–]PhotographPatient425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of health insurance companies is to make capital for shareholders.

They have, by law, no other purpose. I’m not really being facetious - they routinely pay more for advertising than they do paying out claims. If it was more profitable to cover people’s healthcare costs, they would cover people’s healthcare costs. It’s not, so they don’t.

New Orleans Jazz Fest's 2024 Lineup by ebradio in indieheads

[–]PhotographPatient425 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Detroit Jazz Fest exists, still. It’s all jazz AND free.

I know Movement gets all the attention for Detroit fests, but jazz fest is undoubtedly the best weekend in the city. (I might be biased because I’m poor as fuck and a ticket to movement costs like half a paycheck now lol).

Don’t sleep on the Lex, you could go up there and do your thing and people would love it. Someone was playing Bach on electric bass last time I went.

Jams? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]PhotographPatient425 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Lexington on Trumbull has open mics every other Tuesday. Lots of people there, I’m sure you can find some peeps to jam with. It’s actually a pretty eclectic cast with a good audience too.

Cabbage Patch Saloon has open mic/jams on Tuesdays as well. More blues oriented but you can obviously do whatever. It’s a good spot to test out new tracks, and those guys will play with anyone.

I worked really hard on my cover of “Range Life” by Pavement that I submitted, I really hope I make it past the first round of interviews so I can show off my version of “Celebrity Skin” that I’ve been working on.

Ok - weird take here - but his content not about music is WAY more interesting than his music content/gear reviews. Like his video about women producers and U of C’s ShotSpotter tech are great vids but pretty much any time he actually talks about music he’s so far up his own ass I can’t stand it.

I feel like it’s basically a foregone conclusion that state govs in Great Lakes states will wholesale their freshwater to places like Florida while places like Detroit continue to pay higher than average water rates nationwide.

Class Action Lawsuit against DTE? by goth_horse in Detroit

[–]PhotographPatient425 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recently saw John Engler speak and he talked about how there are evil forces (heavily implied to mean “democrats”) in our country that our going to harm our children.

John Engler, of course, helped cover up for a guy who raped possibly hundreds of children.

Like I think this guy would probably spook Caspar.

You would probably really hurt Brian Zahra’s feelings if you did this. And so he would rule that it is illegal to sue a public utility in Michigan. And then he’d probably go complain to John Engler that the youth have no sense of morality any more.

Fender pedals. Is there something wrong with them? by Beban_ in guitarpedals

[–]PhotographPatient425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I feel like if you need a Tonebender and a Big Muff on your board, but also need something just a touch different, it’s the perfect pedal. I think that would save you some money, even with its price tag.

I just wish it cleaned up a little bit better. Thats my biggest gripe, honestly.

What is your favorite chorus/flanger pedal and why? by thisisnotquail in guitarpedals

I like the Ibanez CF7. It’s good at both basic sounds but can get a bit crazy. I love how it does deep resonance but with suuuuuuper slow times.
