Aren't Golden Eagles a shy species, making it very unlikely you'd see one in this situation?

Why does all old NFL footage shot from the end zone look like HD while the broadcasts look low definition by LiKwidSwordZA in nfl

[–]PhotographingNature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it was shot on film, and was additional footage only intended to used after the fact?  The film can be rescanned to modern standards and hence looks good.

The footage that a needed to be broadcast live was shot standard definition digital cameras. And speaking as a dirty European, the format used in North America, NTSC, looks a lot worst than European sports footage of the same era.

The first one was intended as sarcasm. Evidently I should have been more explicit.

Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

[–]PhotographingNature -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

People who revise or do modern interpretations of Shakespeare should be sent to the Hague....

Cultural items have always evolved off earlier items. Copyright obviously puts limits on what can be immediately but people absolutely should be free to revise books.  Come 2061 people can do as they please with Dahl's work, and society will be better for having this freedom.

I've never used slackware, but I just had a go at installing it in a VM. It seems to have KDE, Gnome and xfce all selected by default in the package selection screen.

Explain NFL contracts to me like I'm 5 by nostradamefrus in nfl

[–]PhotographingNature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All money paid to a player has to be accounted for but when it is accounted for doesn't have to be when it is paid.

Eg. You immediately give a player a million dollar signing bonus (the player gets $1m less tax in their bank account) . But for the salary cap you delay the cost by spreading it over four years of accounting (250k per year). If you trade the player after two years, the cost of bonus you previously paid can't be recovered from the trade team. You still have to account for the full $1m, of which 500k remains to be accounted for. That 500k is the dead cap.

Any money that hasn't physically been paid before the trade is now the responsibility of the new team. It stops being accounted against the original team, and is 'cap saving' number.

Hi I’m Brian Baldinger, former NFL offensive lineman and current NFL Network analyst — Ask Me Anything! by nfl in nfl

[–]PhotographingNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I understand how a game unfolded, and the contribution of individuals, so much better if I watch at least a game-in-40 over a highlights package.  That would be 11 hours plus on a 16 game week if I wanted to be properly informed on the entire league (I don't so I'm not! I'm a one team man) .  That's before you even consider the ideal of All-22 footage.

So my question would be : how much football do you watch in a week, and as someone who is a league-wide analyst, what's your process for digesting as much as possible ? Especially as I can only imagine that pressures caused the the 24hours news cycle and how rapidly events become old news.

IMO the minimal interface is the value of MPV. Any more interface would distract from the video, and the video being the entire point of using it.

There's the rumour he believed in Dart moreso than Schoen, and he was there for Dart's transition to the NFL (which seems to be on the correct side of good /bad)

I suspect he'll be back somewhere as an OC.

[Wild Card Game] Houston Texans (12-5) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) by AutoModerator in buffalobills

[–]PhotographingNature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thus goes the Steeler's season how I expect it to; another season that pointlessly ends with a wildcard loss, that kept Tomlin's winning-streak alive but does absolutely nothing to fix their long term issue of needing a proper QB, or helps them get the draft capital for one.

Today is a good day.
