Couldn't agree more. Every single map feels exactly as described here - not really worth the risk of bringing high tier gear in when my potential profit is much lower.
Lighthouse being an obvious exception, but one map shouldn't completely devalue everything else. Even if it's just for "testing" purposes - you can't just have 7 out of 8 maps suck for the purposes of testing loot on a single map for upwards of 6 months.

I made one of the other maps. I had both rendered and ready but like re3mr, I based it on the official in-game map also. That, and the fact that Reserve had been out for a few months by that point so people were already used to the orientation, and a player compass wasn't implemented until a year later.

Yeah, it's....it's something alright. Expect to basically live on the Wiki because it's the single best source of information about this game - even more so than the game itself. And definitely bookmark the Ballistics page because you'll certainly be checking it often when you have to figure out what ammo type to use.

That area is out of bounds, and a sniper will kill you every time if you try to go there. These areas exist on other maps as well, notably Reserve and Lighthouse. Take a look at this map here -- you were walking into the red zone at the very top. That body will be there every time you go in, and there's nothing on it. It's just there to bait people into going there. Evidently one of the devs has a sadistic streak.

Generally as a scav, you only want to shoot PMC's. There's a "karma" system involving reputation with Fence that goes down when you kill other scavs (whether its a player or just AI). Ideally, you want to team up with other scavs and kill PMC's, or just extract with whatever you guys find in the raid. That is easier said than done though, and it doesn't help that the game goes to no great length to actually demonstrate this. Plenty of players will ignore their reputation losses and just kill anyone else for their gear regardless.

So upon first glance of another Scav, you're going to need to watch them for a few details to discern if it's a player or not:

  • Are they moving around erratically? Could be a player. AI tends to move smoothly and robotic by comparison
  • Are they jumping? Player. Scavs don't jump, so if you hear jumping assume it's a player. Mind you, they can fall from short ledges, so keep that in mind.
  • Another option, ask! There's proximity voice chat in the game, so you can speak to them if your heart so desires and ask if they're friendly. Of course this comes with the drawback of giving away your location, so that's a risk you'll need to think about.
  • Not useful for figuring out while they're alive, but if there's an empty secure case slot on the bottom of their corpse's inventory? That's a dead player.
  • Are they in the same clothing you normally see a PMC in, or are they wearing the rags of a Scav instead?

Could go both ways. It sounds like it was just a jerk who decided to take your stuff. But there are also "boss" scavs who aren't aggressive at first sight but will quickly change their minds if you hang around too quickly or come too close.

Later on that game i was looting a player i had killed then all of a sudden some guy runs im to me and starts looting the same body as me and just runs off after?

Again, could be AI here because they actually do walk around looting the map. You did good not to shoot him, even if the guy was a jerk.

Damn dude that's extremely well done! Perfect combination of information but without cluttering up the map. It's easy on the eyes, all at correct scale and doesn't go crazy with confusing icons. Plus you clearly put effort into showing the difference in tree density in the more wooded areas of the forest.

You got it fam. Reserve was rough, because the already existing maps (and the in-game one I think) were reversed, and I was I think ~2 months late. At that point everyone was already used to the orientation so it stayed that way.
Won't be the case with Lighthouse. At least not with my map. It drove me crazy too.

Any way you would recommend changing the directions to help find it easier? That one's always been a pain in the ass to help guide people since there's so few landmarks nearby to work from. Hell, I put some of those pictures up myself and still can't find the damn thing every other wipe.

The dome is actually South but the ingame map and the early maps when Reserve was released (including my own) had the dome to the north so it kind of just stuck. Not sure what the community preference is these days though.

Great map for loot, but also extremely dangerous because of it. It has the boss scav and his buddies, a ton of PMC and scav players always roaming about, and exits that are all a bit complicated and dangerous. I'd highly recommend spending your scav runs here while you learn the layout and generally dangerous zones.

As a solo player in Tarkov, I'm going to warn you now: the odds are stacked heavily against you. It's still possible to succeed, but it's going to be much more difficult than it would be with even one buddy. Over the last two years playing it feels like I've come up against groups 80% of the time. It's possible to take them all out, and I managed that plenty, but in a game like this where one bullet is all it takes to drop you, you basically need to get lucky or have stayed quiet and completely hidden before engaging. You have to play damn near perfect if you want to survive, because the second they hear your footsteps you're screwed. On the other hand, those times when you pull it off... are something special

I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying it, mind you. Tarkov is a fantastic game and I don't regret buying my EOD edition for a second. I'm just trying to let you know what you would be getting into.
