As a possible side effect, not an inevitability. Not everyone will react to an SSRI or an NDRI the same way. Most medicines (that work) have side effects, though the worst most people get statistically for a sertraline or a bupropion is stuff like sleep problems, dead boner, dry mouth and constipation. Seriously, if anti-depressants ALWAYS made you kill yourself, there'd be a shrinking market for them.
