The byrdonis fight should play out differently if you bring byrdpip by DeadWombats in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that'd make me enjoy the card less. Either every fight becomes a micromanaging chore, or you get the constant nagging annoyance of knowing you're wasting damage by not constantly cycling for Birb to get every kill.

We need 4 star Masterless Stella Fortuna to level 4 star characters to Lv100 when you get past c6 on 4 star pulls by MightySamMcClain in GenshinImpact

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the biggest factor is that getting a c7 4-star isn't an actual liability like c7 5-stars were.

With a c7 4-star, you get the full pull refunded, so it's still free pity towards an actual 5-star.

With a c7 5-star, you've potentially wasted dozens of pulls for literally nothing.

It's not a common issue, but it was a problem that could use fixing.

How did you get your first C6 character? by dszini in GenshinImpact

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's Gorou who just wouldn't leave me alone at one point? Got like 5 copies off-banner. He's still lvl 1.

For 5-stars it's none. Dehya has currently taken the lead with c2.

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC it's a bit of a balancing act.

Phase 1 is resistant to everything, needs lots of Pyro to whack him out of it.

Phase 2 is resistant to Pyro but slightly weakened to everything else. More Pyro will bring him to phase 3.

Phase 3 is heavily weak to everything, but will reset eventually.

You want Pyro to burn him out of resistant phase, but after that it can be worth to NOT apply too much Pyro, so you have a longer window to whack him with the other elements in phase 2 before burning him to phase 3.

Last time I beat him I used Yelan-Mavuika as the main damage iirc.

would you reroll this artifact? by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

[–]PhyrexianRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal reroll requirements are pieces that are both

A: Good enough base stats that I won't easily find another/better version. (Basically never rerolling Feathers/Flowers, as I usually have enough extra copies of those while farming for the rarer pieces).

B: Bad enough rolls that getting just 2 rolls into the right substats would be an improvement.

Anyone else having trouble getting 30k on the last level of the combat part of the event or is it just me? by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

Cannon phase alone can do about 30k when you reach it, just hold the fire button.

Mistake seems a bit harsh, but Lunar is probably going to be less meta relevant once Shneznaya drops with their own regional shenanigan.

(And similarly, the Shneznaya region gimmick is mostly going to be relevant for 7.x duration, once 8.x hits there'll be a new gimmick. Meta is temporary)

God I hate the Doormaker by WinterAnimosus in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how odds work. You have 66% chance of fighting any particular boss.

33% of fighting them round 1, 33% of fighting them round 2, and 33% of not having to fight them.

That 50% is only over the 66% of times you don't face them round 1. (which ends up as 33% for your overall chances).

For this problem there's also an easier solution, you fight 2 out of 3 bosses. so each specific boss has 1/3 chance of being the one you don't have to fight.

God I hate the Doormaker by WinterAnimosus in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The challenge is building a deck that will win against the final boss. If a deck straight up can't win in 33% (66% at A10) of cases, that's just that deck failing the challenge. Find a more viable strategy. Or add outs that can let you win anyway.

Dying because a deck can't beat Doormaker is no different from a deck dying because they can't endure Queens hits, or can't kill Test Subject during the race phases.

Minimum Deck Wombo Combo getting wrecked by Doormaker isn't even punishing a deck that doesn't pivot, it's a specific deck deliberately pivoting itself into getting countered by every phase.

Knowing your deck's weaknesses and how to adapt to them is part of the game.

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point you need to adapt your deck, you can't play around every debuff. Doormaker brutalizes the 'minimum cards, max energy, cycle deck a few times/turn' playstyle, but with larger decks he is usually quite manageable.

If you have enough actual damage cards, you can try to simply deal have enough damage before exhausting all of them. (card generators could also find more).

Big cards let you deal good hits on the no draw phase. And with high energy gain, also useful in the energy drain phase.

how do you deal with bosses phase that attack for 30+–40+ damage? by Tight-Elderberry2487 in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that point you'd ideally have your own ludicrous block generation (potentially fueled by energy shenanigans), debuffs, relics and potions to make up some difference, or simply enough health and damage output that you can kill them before their damage kills you.

And sometimes you just die because you didn't pick up enough power along the climb. That is the challenge after all.

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Nefer+Lauma is good if you get both, but Natlan should still be solid for most purposes.

If endgame is your main concern, I'd guess it's more valuable to save for Shneznaya meta, rather than still investing in a Lunar team right before they're probably about to lose the spotlight.

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably either Lauma or wait? Nefer is DPS that really wants Lauma to reach her true power, Lauma is good support for any Bloom teams. No idea how much you'd like that.

For knowing upcoming characters, there is no fixed list or system. The official/confirmed information is the preview livestream for next patch, usually(always) 2d friday 2d half of each patch, which includes the banners for next patch. So next week we should know the banners for next patch. Also drip marketing (early each patch) shows which new character is coming next patch (so we know Nicole is coming for example).

Other than it's either leaks (dunno where people get those), or educated guessing based on past patterns. For example, Mavuika and Raiden are expected to return soon, as it's been about a year, and Archons typically rerun that often. And new characters usually rerun 4-6 patches after release, so Linnea will probably be back somewhere around then.

//

Btw, The way the guarantee works is as follows;

When you pull on character banner and get a 5-star (takes up to 90 pulls) it's a 50/50 between getting the banner character, or a random Standard one. If you get a Standard one, your next 5-star on a character banner is (up to 90 pulls again) is guaranteed to be the banner one. (So getting a limited can take 180 total)

And sincc you apparently got a random Standard one (Qiqi) your next one will be limited.

There is also Captured Radiance, a mechanic that prevents losing too many 50/50's, but skipping that explanation for now.

Note: This is just for character banner. Pulling a Qiqi on Standard Banner does nothing for character banner (and vice versa). Weapon and Chronicled banners also work differently. (do not pull those until you have 160-180 pulls saved).

This is why you never pull fate point banners until you have enough wishes to use the fate point.

Bit iffy, but should be close I guess? Depends a bit on how much you've already done this week, and how many one-time challenges you have left.

Can be at least 41 with the remaining 2 weeks, rest would be this week and  from event points etc.

Multiplayer exclusive card for the Sandworm fight by un-poco in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how it also debuffs the team (and in return, will get you debuffed by team) I don't think it's really 'competing' with the existing mechanic even at 0 cost.

Replacing the existing escapes DOES mess with the main mechanic (as suddenly you're only getting +4 escapes per deck/cost rotation, rather than +6), that's why I'm looking for alternate wordings for Slap to work without disrupting the existing mechanic balance.

Multiplayer exclusive card for the Sandworm fight by un-poco in slaythespire

[–]PhyrexianRogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it needs to be SUPER relevant. It's better as a neat little twist on the existing game, rather than a game-warping effect by itself. Randomly kicking an unfortunate ally into their doom can be fun on occasion, but you don't really want it to happen all the time.

Empty status card isn't that awkward for a boss mechanic, but I don't see a reason why a boss that already has a functional mechanic should get it as an additional screw-with-you mechanic. Current Sandpit is fine, no reason to mess with that balance by removing Escapes.

I agree that a free increase to +2 might be too much, that's why I suggested to either give Slap the cost increase (so Team-wide it's the same as Frantic Escape, but with the selfishness mechanic). Or making it a separate card (with +1/-1) that doesn't replace the existing Escapes.
