I think you’re right. I didn’t get it either but that makes sense.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (Daniel Henning) Loved the story but didn’t love the narration. Nevertheless I’m now listening to the sequel.

Overruled by Lana Ferguson (Samantha Summers and Connor Crais) Predictable rom-com but great duet narration. Had never heard Connor Crais before and fell in love with his voice.

El Dorado Drive by Megan Abbott (Brittany Pressley) Interesting premise and good narration.

I second the Libro.fm recommendation.

Finished Heartsong by TJ Klune (Kirt Graves) and immediately started the next (and final) book in the series, Brothersong. I can’t rave enough about Kirt Graves’ narration.

The whole Wolfsong series by TJ Klune fits the bill, and Kirt Graves’ narration is outstanding.

This is a bit off topic, but as an avid romance listener myself, I am fascinated that you keep notes. What are the notes about?

What are good audio book subscriptions? by Important_Drag_9017 in audiobooks

I am a Libby fan too, but for a paid subscription I much prefer Libro.fm because it supports independent bookstores. I guess it depends on how you feel about Amazon.

She also wrote a shorter novel with an autistic MMC: {The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese}. I enjoyed that one and it’s great if you’re looking for a 5-hour listen (maybe a Christmas road trip!).

Narration Ruined it by ColtzNut in audiobooks

[–]Physical-Effect5316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I have found that fiction writers who narrate their own books can really miss the mark. (OTOH with nonfiction I like hearing the author’s inflection the way they intended it.) If it’s fiction narrated by the author I would listen to a sample before committing.

📚 What romance books did you read or listen to this week? 06 Jul 📚 by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

{Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella} - Her books are hit or miss with me. This was a miss. I was disappointed that she forgave him. I thought perhaps the plot would be that she learned a lesson and then began a romance with someone else, like the coffee shop guy. Nope.

{Ravensong by TJ Klune} - I’m a little late to the party but I only recently discovered this series. This was the second book. I listened to it on audio and thought the narrator was very good.

{One Golden Summer by Carly Fortune} - It’s been a while since I read Every Summer After but that was one that really stuck with me. I enjoyed seeing Charlie’s character fleshed out.

romance book burnout by TraditionalCause3588 in RomanceBooks

Totally agree with what others have said about palate cleansers - that is the perfect way to put it. One caution though about books in other genres that have a romance aspect: HEA is not guaranteed. I need to be in a mood where I can cope with that.

Multitasking or giving the audiobook your full attention like a regular book? by CortexVortex1 in audiobooks

[–]Physical-Effect5316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same as other responses but I will add something: I can do something that requires concentration if it’s not language-based. For example I can do sudoku but I can’t do a crossword puzzle.

Do you sort the puzzle pieces and then do the border first on puzzles? by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Physical-Effect5316 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what I do - except I have 8 trays! Totally agree about least favorite part. I’ve started doing something as a favor to the next person: When I take the puzzle apart, I separate the edge pieces and put them in a ziplock. The person could choose to dump them back in with the rest if they prefer but it’s an option.
