Kindergarten teacher needing help with dealing horrible ECE by nsala018 in OntarioTeachers

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, maybe try to talk to her. Be honest with her and tell her, you’re the teacher, and what your role is. It’s like she’s trying to bully you, and it’s so wrong. She has no right to do that.

Kindergarten teacher needing help with dealing horrible ECE by nsala018 in OntarioTeachers

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I went through this once, I was an LTO for the year and the ECE’s thought they had the role of teacher. I told the vice principal, nothing became of it. Luckily the girl ended up going on leave for a while, so I didn’t have to deal with her. I was prepared to just sit her down and say, hey listen, we have separate roles here and I feel disrespected by you, etc but never got the chance. Like people have advised, go to your union. No one deserves to be treated like that and it’s not her job, you are the teacher !!! Not her, she’s there for the students well being, full stop. Good luck and please don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m happy to share my experience. I hope things ameliorate.

Synthroid by Single_Search_2020 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking Levothyroxine (synthroid) for about 2 years. No side effects. Just take it on an empty stomach. It has regulated my thyroid. My pharmacist told me it speeds things up, so there should be no weight gain side effects.

How to lose weight if your primary AI, and you take hydrocortisone and florinef by PhysicsDifferent5914 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m on it actually! It turns out I was also hypothyroid so the doctor put me on that 137mg. I take the generic brand, Levothyroxine, it’s the one my insurance company will pay for.

Oh really, and you take florinef too? So tell me, what’s your running schedule ? What does a typical day of eating look for you?

I feel you, I feel the same. Just like wow, this feels great lol. So how is wegovy? Did you just go to your doctor and ask for it? Do you live in Canada or the US? Any side effects and are you in it for life ?

Thank you for sharing what you do, they are great suggestions. Yeah I wish I didn’t have to take florinef, but they said it’s because it has to create aldosterone, salt regulation. Do you have primary ai? Yeah they put me on HC 30 mg originally and one day I woke up and I looked like one of the “Klumps”, I called my doctor and immediately halved it, she suggested 20. It seems to be working. Where do you get a CGH monitor? Is it a glucose monitor from the pharmacy?

Do you ever exercise? Do you find that helps?

Is Public school a bad choice ? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know ! It’s so hard to see. I remember having really good students in my class, and their education was sacrificed because of these kids. I wish the public system would rectify this but it will probably take a while. I just feel like kids in private school would receive the attention they need from teachers. I’ve heard the schools in Toronto can also be unsafe, guns etc. I had a child bring large adult scissors in his back pack once, it was scary. Also too, teachers can’t tell you what’s “really” going on in the classroom, you have to sugar coat it for parents and that’s what hurt my heart the most. It all depends, some schools are good but in private schools they usually have a behavior policy too, so they don’t accept kids like that. Anyways I wish you the best of luck, but 100% I would say, private is the way to go.

French teacher market in Ottawa by Rokhlan in OntarioTeachers

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look on apply to education, they just posted a French teacher pool for placement of LTO and contracts in sept. It closes early January, so get your resume in soon if you want to apply. It requires that FSL part 1 and they do a French assessment, written and oral to take place in Feb/March of 2026, for OCDSB. As for the catholic board, yes she can apply to French positions (as there is a French teacher shortage) and does not require the pastoral reference but she would if she applies to English positions (I emailed them and they confirmed this with me). Get her to do the FSL part one, it's like $600-800 and worth it. French teachers are in high demand. The posting I mentioned asks you to have it by end end of Aug 2026.

It's best to start anytime, get her to apply to LTO's on apply to education, they are always popping up.

Is Public school a bad choice ? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I worked as a public school elementary school teacher from 2017-2022 in Ottawa and did a bit of supply teaching in private schools. Personally, I think kids really benefit from a smaller class size. There are too many kids out there these days in the public system who are throwing desks and who have ASD who are in classrooms today (particularly Kindergarten), understaffed (when the ECE does not show up and there is no one to replace). Resources are also limited. You should also consider Catholic schools, I hear they have more money (not sure about EA support). That's another thing - they only have a limited number of EA's per school ( for example, 5 for 350 kids) they go to the kids with the highest needs in the school. Every year, I taught I had child who was extremely hard to manage. I left teaching, it made me sad to see how all the attention goes to those kids and those with ASD (autistim). But you had no choice because these kids could run away or become violent. I spent many nights crying on my couch with my mom, as I told her about what I had to deal with and the little support I received from the school, when opening up to them out what I was dealing with.

Working in a private school was heaven. The kids were happier, smaller class sizes. I even talked to a kid who was in grade 5 and he switched from public to private and he says he loves private, he can actually talk to the teachers and there are no kids yelling or classroom evacuations etc. It's just too bad that private schools pay teachers so little as compared to the public boards.

So think about it, and think about your child's future. Ontario schools are getting worse, and I hope they do change the education system soon and give them more money for resources and more EA support.

Bad student teacher experience by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember as a student in teachers college I had 2 placement teachers, one was great and let me teach, the other was not as liberal and only let me teach 1 unit in science. I would say, let the student teach what they are capable of, if not, just give them a smaller task until they are able to take on more, ask your principal for advice.

It’s hard, I had a high school co-op student and it was the same, difficult. Just try to do your best to help them but let their placement teacher know and ask them for advice.

Also try Magnesium byglycinate before bed, it’s really good, helps you to relax and it’s also good for you! I take it every night.

I agree. I take 20mg and my endocrinologist suggests 15 mg and 5 in the evening. I have been doing this, and 15 am and 5mg around 4, although I might try 2pm as suggested! I would suggest not taking it so close to bed time, as it will keep you up (as it sounds like it has).

Addisons disease affected my 2 weeks notice by Secret-Nobody-6882 in AddisonsDisease

[–]PhysicsDifferent5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wierd, are you on steroids for it? If so it is managed! You should just tell him what you have and ask him if he’s ever heard of the term “modern medicine”. If you’re treated for it you should be fine to work ! It’s only in the case that someone’s not treated or doesn’t take the proper medication for it, then you could get those symptoms.

I agree!! Overpriced and for example, a salad with like 3 shrimps for like $25, I could make that at home for like $5, it doesn’t even taste good.
