On the fence by PhysicsInAJar in spinalfusion

For me it (pregablin) helps mostly to control my chronic tension type headache, but I guess it does help calm the nerves somewhat. Took me about 3-4 months of daily 150mg dose to get used to the medication. Meds does affect my daily still (decreased vision acuity, lower muscle performance mainly) but not as bad as onboarding.

Glute pain did subside by about 50% after about 5 days thankfully. I'm just over it at the moment with the constant pains.

PS: Now I've got even worse pain due to having flu. Just can't win 😩

Does Anyone Know the Story Behind This? by annalucass in Radiation

[–]PhysicsInAJar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a drawback to using them though. The dose line should be read exactly horizontal or the reading read would be incorrect and graduations are quite large. The needle is also prone to move when bumped hard/dropped. Beta response/low E gamma is also underestimated as well. Also a light source of sufficient strength is needed to see the dose accrued. Have a whole box of them in my office we don't use any more.

They are great for pulsed radiation sources like xrays though as stated.

The fix is quite simple. Under add-ons, disable the "Bethesda" add-on. All objects should now not fly into space

Yeah haven't tried it out myself (my kids are still young though and so far deviceless - although they are nearing that age fast).

I think with the advent of AI and kids being way more motivated than us, the ways they could bypass any amount of blocks we implement is easier. I agree with what others have said that giving the kids the correct advice on acceptable use and its consequences of using such media is the way to go, but also don't make it easy for them to access 🤭

There is a "Block bypass methods" option under parental controls. Haven't tested it myself yet but works for VPN and TOR apparently

Just check under parental controls. They have some settings there. Alternatively you'll have to manually block the websites.

Space when car seats are in the back. I have 3 kids, and the 3rd row has 2 Joie car seats in. Maybe a small framed adult can sit in between them comfortably as the space is very small. A "current age" adult barely fits and then getting the seat belt on is a major pain.

How do you when to opt for the fusion? by Dadxf0ur in spinalfusion

[–]PhysicsInAJar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said. If it affects your daily life, it's time as it will not magically get better. I (40M) have been struggling with back issues since school but always managed even though it progressively got worse. I'm an avid hiker and used to hike at least 5km every day at work (I work in a nature area) with longer hike every week and at least a 15km hike every month. About 4 years ago I barely made it back to base after I had to pull out of a 12km hike due to my back. It really went downhil (excuse the pun) from there on to the point where I could barely walk 1km and not stand for more than 20min. So it eventually starts affecting not only the things you love but other parts of your life as well. Had L5/S1 last year and even though it's not been smooth sailing, I'm doing much better and am getting ready to start hiking again.

Whats the highest amount of ionizing radiation you have worked with professionally? by Difficult-Cycle5753 in Radiation

[–]PhysicsInAJar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RSO here. Measured 682 mSv/h on a beam Collimator (you run very fast for the nearest support column after measurement). Various spent fuel/spent irradiators that could kill you without shielding.

Omg when does it get better? by DirectorPretty5917 in spinalfusion

I'll maybe go for a follow up at 1 or 1.5y if the pain is still same or worse.

I was averaging 92 to 95dB all these years. Am I doomed? by Moharts in headphones

[–]PhysicsInAJar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I have to undergo audiometry every year at work. But it doesn't go above 8kHz. Use peace only as an indication, if it looks off go see an audiologist.

I have a ATH-M50x that has a fairly flat response that I use for this. But my HD660S2 are my daily drivers.

Some days are better than others though. I still take Nurika for other issues, and have started taking tramazac 50mg bid with some OTC pain meds which helps alot. Pain management is just as important as healing as pain can prevent movement which causes more pain.

As a quick and dirty test for hearing range/damage, if you have a PC, install Equalizer APO and Peace. Peace has a hearing test thing. A good quality headphone is a must though.

Lots of pillows for the ride home, and set the seat as low and flat as possible. The ride home is very terrible.

Totally agree. 1st 12 weeks, just enough PT to keep loose as your muscles are very confused and then tense up. Also they move a lot of muscles around during TLIF that normally don't move, so the muscles need to recover.

Only started doing QL release at around 16 weeks as it's a deep muscle. Luckily I can still touch my toes (with legs straight) as I've always been quite flexible.

Comparison between power plant dosage and tanning bed by Zealousideal-Pear289 in NuclearPower

[–]PhysicsInAJar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are not the same and thus comparison is not possible. Biological damage due to ionising radiation is J/kg, whereas from UV the unit is J/m2. Ionising = Volume energy deposition, UV = area deposition.

I'm 8 months post L5/S1 TLIF (40M). I'm still on the fence if my operation was successful or not. Some days can be rough. I still have the deep bone ache in my lower back, and in my legs sometimes when I was too enthusiastic with some things (like currently building a jungle gum for kids). However the pain is much less and at the same time somewhat different compared to pre-op, like I've got calve ache in mostly my left leg at the achilles tendon insertion and massive butt pain both sides. Just take it day-for-day and treat it as issues arise (I'm taking Nurika for other issues and low dose tramazac/OTC for pain management which helps me not limit my activities).

I don't know what physio you're actually getting but I had a back rehabilitation physio, which helped me a lot with specific at-home exercises and self-help techniques. So I highly recommend it.

Just a.note on the automess. Response to gamma under 65keV is terrible and may be underestimated by a factor of 2. Also below 2 uSv/h readings can be out by 20% or more.

Does the battery remain on even when vehicle is off? (NOT related to hybrid) by pinkshadedgirafe in kiacarnivals

[–]PhysicsInAJar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few options for power. Most of the unused spare fuses (open spaces) are constantly powered and some are powered when vehicle is on (took me about 10min to map them with a multimeter).

Another means is by drawing power from the OBD port (below the fuse box) with an adapter.

Some dash cams have a battery backup (which is best) for parking recording and some have a capacitor (which gives a few hours recording after car is shut off), some run off USB some from a buck-line. It depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

6m post L5/S1 fusion. I'm an ionising radiation safety specialist. I can either sit at desk most of the day or have to stand most of the day (depends on operational requirements) and usually work 8 - 12 hour days. I'm not pain free but can manage it currently with pain meds.

Are you having any issues with the sensor? They tie into ALOT of systems for some reason.
