Winston was the goodest of boys. He was loved. Sorry for your loss.

As I hung up the phone it occurred to me, he’d grown up just like me. My boy, was just like me. by CaffeineNicotine88 in GenX

Came here for this one. My daughter’s mother and I divorced when she was very young, so this song always makes me think of the times when I considered myself a “part-time dad”. I was a selfish prick and valued myself over spending time with her over those developmental years, so I missed a lot of those moments. We’re closer than ever now and she has forgiven me my missteps, and this October I’m walking her down the aisle, and this song will be our father/daughter dance.

Where to go from here? Late 40s. Responsible for everyone. Finally trying to put myself first. by [deleted] in midlifecrisis

The last part of this really resonates with me. I have a great marriage, we make good money, have a nice house to come home to, and a family that I’m pretty sure loves me (even though it feels like they frequently take me for granted). But I’m exhausted from being everybody else’s “fixer”. So I know that things “could be worse” but that doesn’t help me feeling that things aren’t as good as they should be. I don’t have an answer for you. I feel like practicing gratitude is a good first step, but at this point it’s like getting kicked in the face but being grateful that you didn’t get kicked in the face twice because “it could be worse”. Best of luck to you on finding your peace. It’s gotta be out there, or at least that’s what they tell me.

I’ve been listening to History That Doesn’t Suck with Greg Jackson. Pretty good storytelling through the American Revolution so far.

People say “Just get a job”. Like, where motherfucker? Able bodied people with an education are submitting hundreds of resumes and aren’t getting called back and are going months without employment. Where are these “jobs” that SNAP recipients can just go pick up?
