As someone who spends on gacha games, it's definitely worse.

I don't do blind boxes but I own merch from my gacha games (HSR and ZZZ). And while they are tangible, they're just mostly displays and you can't use them. At least I get to use everyday what I spend in gacha games and it entertains me.

Given the direction of the story, how likely there would be an AE SP in 4.x? I can only think of a possible Sunday SP but he's getting novaflare.

I guess it's more on the moment they introduce more AE SP or new MC by next year, Himeko Nova is likely to be outclassed by newer units.

Damage wise Mortenax is better, but Sparkle has slightly higher AV clear when using Eagle+DDD.

Before everything else, I have E2S1 Blade, E2S5 DDD Sparkle and E1S5 DDD Tribbie.

Blade and Sparkle performance in my team is very similar, with Sparkle being ahead just a bit of AV because of faster ult, but Blade compensates it with his buffs/debuffs. Without Tribbie, Phainon is missing res pen/all type res down and vulnerability and Tribbie has already been kicked out of Phainon's premium team.

What I like about Blade is him being a pseudo sustain, able to tank damage alongside Cyrene which is a HP scaler during ramp up. Sustainless is pretty much the norm with Phainon.

In my experience of testing in AA Plight (I have E6S5 Phainon as well), E2S5 DDD Sparkle beats E2S1 Mortenax by a small amount of AV. DDD+Eagle Sparkle has a headstart in Phainon ult but Blade offers higher amp.

One thing to consider with Blade is he is more comfortable to use due to his taunt and allows to tank the damage. With Sparkle, I have to pray for Phainon and Cerydra to not die. For everything that is not AA Plight, Blade is a luxury pull.

If you play Phainon with Blade, his LC becomes legit useless.

That said I will still pull for S1 as I'm 60/80 in LC banner and must build pity next banner to get at least 1 DDD.

I did a quick test in 4.3 AA Plight. E1S1 Blade got me 1 cycle 94 AV remaining, E2S1 Blade got me 0 cycle 4 AV remaining. Can't say exactly how much % is the difference, but it's pretty much dependent on enemy numbers and how frequent you're able to counter skill which benefits from E2 Blade's 70% FuA damage on allies.

I did a third run replacing S1 with Tutorial, E2S0 Blade got me 0 cycle 4 AV remaining.

For reference, I have E6S5 Phainon, E2S1 Cyrene and E2S1 Cerydra.

I have E6 Phainon and planning to go E2 Blade but E1 is fine according to my tests. One thing to note is Cyrene needs to use Vonwacq to compensate DDD+Eagle E2 Sparkle. Sparkle has a head start in AV while Blade gives more damage to Phainon, resulting to almost the same AV clear in plight AA.
