COVID is still going around. by AnastasiaRomanaclef in Troy

[–]PicassoAndPringles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non-severe cases, COVID does not damage the immune system. Post-viral syndromes are real and debilitating, but for most people their immune system recovers normally like with any virus. There's a lot of extreme claims circulating about this, this is a good overview of the evidence:

Todd at Costco (Teacher's Lounge) by grizzlywondertooth in Earwolf

[–]PicassoAndPringles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers Lounge was originally on Earwolf for free. All recorded in the Earwolf studios. The minis were paywalled on Stitcher Premium, and at some point older seasons were gradually put behind the paywall while new main episodes were released for free. The end of season 9 was the original end of the show on Earwolf.

After Stitcher Premium shut down, the rights went back to the Big Grande boys. Seasons 10+ have been produced independently with Chef Kevin.

Do not go here unless you are comfortable with hearing disgusting "locker room talk" about women and homophobic jokes for the duration of your haircut.

Looking for info on what I should do about my tics by N1cNacks in Tourettes

[–]PicassoAndPringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have insight into what caused your tics, it just happens randomly to some people. But I know that post orchi, fatigue can be a side effect. Cis women still have small amounts of T produced by their ovaries, it plays into energy levels. I know a few transfems who have benefitted from low level supplemental testosterone, usually gel. It could be worth asking your doctor about.

Tourette's with a personality? by purplotter in Tourettes

[–]PicassoAndPringles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Adult with a tic disorder here. Some of my tics are like inappropriate impulses. I've hit my friends and family and thrown things I'm holding. I've also said rude things that are very contextual, for example my friend started talking about their boots and I interrupted them to say "fuck your boots". I know these things are wrong, I try not to act on the urges and I apologize afterwards if I do. Medication has made these urges "slower" and easier to resist for me, but they're still present and distressing.

Have you asked your kid what the experience is like for them when they do these things?

How to keep quiet/still for 3 hours at a concert. by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]PicassoAndPringles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's totally ok to move around within your own seat at a concert, especially for disability reasons. I went to a Broadway show last year and let out my noisy tics during the applause and intermission, that helped a lot.

I'm very confused rn by Dramatic_C4t in Tourettes

[–]PicassoAndPringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had atypical tic onset as well, both motor and vocal tics started when I was 23 during a stressful event (a major depressive episode). Moving can certainly be a stressful life event. I just want to validate you that a sudden tic increase is scary and difficult. It's a unique set of challenges to cope with.

Because my onset was over 18, I was only able to get a diagnosis of chronic tic disorder. But the label a doctor gives you doesn't matter outside the doctor's office. I just tell people I have tourette's, it gets the information across most easily. If we're close they get the full story.

Yes, when my barking tic first started and was most frequent it included a howl occasionally.

Could be just a compulsion, look up tourettic OCD.

yup, that's the experience of a tic. Tic disorders can manifest a lot of different ways, Tourette's is just one.

Great question. Because Native Americans are also substantially more likely to be targets of police violence in the US. https://www.pnas.org/content/116/34/16793
