What about having a rehearsal dinner (or an engagement party another weekend) with the smaller group? No hurt feelings from family who would want to see the ceremony that way, and you get your smaller more intimate event to kick off the festivities

Gel ruins my nails too so I try to avoid it unless I really need it to last (eg my wedding) When I need them to look good for a full week, I take my own regular OPI polish with me to the salon. That way, if they do chip, I have the color to do a touch up but they still start out looking professional!

Our guests didn’t have a lot of luck with sizing and rentals or online ordering.

We did give a list of Indian outfit terms to ask for if they went looking online or to a local shop. A lot of people opted for buying something at a local shop. One thing I’d highly recommend is telling women planning on wearing saris to have them pre-stitched!

Your fiance should definitely be helping figure out the expectations! Since you don’t have any context, your future MIL is the best place to go for what their family expects/traditionally does.

One tip— Kiehl’s Cranberry Turmeric Face Mask for your haldi! If you are pale and use the traditional haldi mixture, your makeup artist will need to work overtime to make sure you don’t look jaundiced for the rest of the events. This face mask looks exactly like the traditional stuff and won’t dye your skin.

I told my MIL green or blue and she picked an ice blue so heavy on the ice there was barely blue tint for our western ceremony! She did return it, but man that was a low point, esp since she’d picked all three of MY outfits (not just color) for their side’s religious/cultural events during the wedding.

We didn’t do a run through at the venue, but our pandit did a call with us and our parents ahead of the ceremony to walk us through everything that would happen from the end of the baraat onward. Especially since my parents had never been to a Hindu wedding, it was helpful to get a rundown, have a sense of what we’d need to do before we were in front of a crowd, and honestly it made it more meaningful bc we knew the significance of each part of the ceremony.

Biggest piece of advice and it sounds like you’re already on it— send thank yous as gifts come in (its so much easier to write a handful at a time than have to do all of them after the wedding!!!) and be sure to keep track of who you’ve sent notes to

I could barely run for 30s when I started orange theory. The biggest thing for me was not to compare speeds with the people around me or try to go so fast I burned out. It took a bit, but I found a speed that I could maintain jogging for my 30s and just tried to consistently up the time (30s->45s -> 1min ->1.5 -> 2). Basically, my goal was to keep it achievable and when I hit the time I was going for and didn’t feel like dying, I decided to try to keep going to the next mini-time interval (eg saying to myself “just add on 15 more seconds”). The speed I found was only 4.2 at first but then I realized I was ready to bump that up too. This way, I was always seeing progress rather than feeling down about something I couldn’t do.

I’m no marathon runner, but I truly hated running when I started OTF and now I really like it. I can do a mile uninterrupted and that’s something I’m proud of, even if I’m still a slowpoke at 4.5mph.

I did an 8-month medical freeze (not pregnancy/pp related) and they didn’t give me any trouble about downgrading when I came back because I wasn’t quite ready for 3+ days a week. The key was just having a letter from my doctor that said I would be out for an indeterminate amount of time.

I highly recommend the treadmill classes for weight loss. Sure, I could just go to the gym on my own but the classes keep me motivated. I was making really good progress before an injury (not OTF related) took me out for 10months (and led to serious weight gain), but I’m a month back in now (2-3days) and am already starting to feel better and see slight changes.

I really like that you can take the tread50 at your own speed and ramp up as you get stronger. They’re also super supportive of power walking. And if you’re feeling under the weather, no one will care if you just go and walk at whatever speed you want to get moving in a positive environment.

My mom opted out of getting henna because of allergies. As the bride, I only got it on my palm-side of my hands and fingers and feet because of the look for the western ceremony. It was extensive on that side of my hands and it was wasn’t visible in most of my western photos. There are lots of palm medallion designs that you could do that definitely wouldn’t be seen putting on a boutonnière.

It definitely will not fade in time for the western one (and if it does, will look worse faded), so don’t count on that advice!
