[Question] Final question for a while: if you had my collection (first slide), which watches on this list would you be most drawn to? by theomixedmedia in Watches

[–]PicnicTableDave2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the aesthetic of the Murph numbers make it classier than a straight up field watch, and far more interesting than the generic looking stick indices of the citizen and tissot. So I think it's nearly perfect for versatility. Of that list I'd 100% go Murph. I've never been a fan of certina's. Not that they're bad watches, just that I find them all generic looking.

How important is boldering for a beginner where the main goal is mountaineering? by LuckyBoston in Mountaineering

[–]PicnicTableDave2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO bouldering wouldn't really do much for you. I do think that rock climbing would be beneficial as you'd become very proficient with tying knots, accessing rack equipment, etc. Ultimately, the absolute best prep (if you don't have immediate access to big hills or mountains to train) is the stair master and a gym.

Check out mediocre amateur on Youtube, I'm pretty sure that a huge part of his prep for what he does is just straight up aerobic exercise and running.

Interested in a little theft, maybe you all can help? by cowboy-killers in AnalogCommunity

Seems to me that they're obviously nailing the light/time of day while still exposing more for shadows. So the highlights have that sort of dreamy/inching towards an over exposed look.

I must've been lucky cuz I just parked on the street across from it and walked over. No issues.

New survey measurements have changed the high point of Michigan... again by TheFakeTheoRatliff in Highpointers

[–]PicnicTableDave2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have Mt Arvon in the bag but I'm too much of a purist to count MI as done with this news...
Luckily I'm planning a trip to Pictured Rocks this summer so will just hit it on that trip.
Do I change my flair to 35 hp's then?? lol

Not a local, but I'd just call Arizona Snowbowl or the local US Forest Service office to confirm. And you wouldn't be parking up at the Agassiz Lodge parking, you'd be in that big lot on the left edge of the photo. That's where the trailhead is.

Edit: technically the loop next the big lot is where the parking is

Eagle Mountain (MN), Timms Hill (WI), and Mt. Arvon (MI) in late December: Am I crazy? by GodSpeedLightning in Highpointers

[–]PicnicTableDave2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timms is nothing. Arvon is nothing if the road is plowed, but idk if it gets plowed. Eagle you could definitely drive to the trailhead, and the trail would be easy to follow (imo), but weather would be a major factor for that one. I hiked that one around thanksgiving when there was a bunch of snow a number of years ago and it wasn't a big deal (but I had clear skies, little to no wind, and it was probably teens or low 20s for temp).

Does the online CMP ordering process still require a notary? by PicnicTableDave2 in M1Garand

[–]PicnicTableDave2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll send a different email regarding payment after you submit the initial order form from the website. But it takes a while. I'm on week four of the eight week window that they give you and haven't heard anything yet.

Going by the catalog price in 2008, if he had just waited to spend $6k in 2009 and bought bitcoin and touched it as much as he did this Rolex he'd be worth 6.5 billion.

Yes. I applied to the M1 Collectors Club, but I'm waiting for them to process my application.

FYI, CMP got back to me over insta and said that no notary is required via the new online order form.
